Wheel Around the World (Day 5)
This premiere week has been quite dismal, BR-wise (credit to the Bonus Puzzle Compendium). Can we prevent this week from becoming a BR SHUTOUT? I hope so...
Tonight's animation is a lady with a supersonic jet flying to her house to watch some Wheel!
Toss-Up 1: On the menu (now Food & drink, beginning S24)

Pat knows that Mike's eaten a CHILI CHEESE DOG or a few, we'll interview him and the female competition...
Mike Matski: A business student at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo who's in an improv group called Smile and Nod at the school; he's from Ojai, CA (near Ventura)
April Applewhite: A sales rep for a major medical staffing company who's been married for 38 years and has 14-year-old and 9-year-old kids (and is the mom of a "baby husband", LOL!); she's from Grand Rapids, MI
Laura Shortman: A stay-at-home mom of two sons (a 2 1/2-year-old and an 8-month-old) who's married to Ryan; she's from Westfield, MA

I dunno if Laura's gone to a ROYAL WEDDING, but she'll be spinning first.
WATW Trip on the Wheel: A $7,000 trek to Brussels, Belgium
$10,000 Round: Fun & games
Laura kicks things off with a $900 R trio, 2 A's, and an E. She next gets a $600 pair of C's, but says S for sorry on $900. Mike earns $300 from an N and purchases 3 O's, but fails to pick up the WATW trip with a G (and he's like "darn it!"). April lands on $450 and lights up two D's, but no M from $500. Laura finishes it off with double L's on $900...

Wrong Letters: S (Laura), G (Mike), M (April)
April: $0
Laura: $4,800
Mike: $1,000 TU money
Centrum Silver Jackpot Round: Thing (PRIZE PUZZLE)
Mike lights up 4 $300 N's and 6 $400 T's in this big puzzle. After buying an E pair and and A quintet, he gets a semi-obvious H on $300. He then buys 2 O's, lights up a $600 S, and 4 I's to clear out the vowels. He then finds a $400 C and an $800 P, and here's the board now...

He doesn't think captains go with tables, but Pat explains they're on cruises - and he'll be getting AN INVITATION TO THE CAPTAIN'S TABLE on his $4,448 CARIBBEAN CRUISE (Pat made me think it was a Norwegian cruise instead)! With another $4,700, he's earned $9,148 that round!
CRUISE ID: SS17296
DOMINATION!
April: $0
Laura: $4,800
Mike: $10,148 cash and cruise
Mystery Round: Phrase
Pat jokes with Charlie, saying, "Charlie, I haven't officially welcomed you to season 23 yet. I love hearing your voice, thank you very much."
This is the last season, BTW, that they offered Mystery Prizes other than $10,000. In this case, it's a $13,185 Kia Rio.
On to the gameplay. Still trying to get on the board, April lights up 2 T's on $800 (although she just didn't make it to the Mystery Wedge) and buys 5 E's in this fairly long puzzle. She picks up the TiVo gift tag with an obvious H and buys an A, but then Bankrupts to give up $1,100 and the gift tag (she says it's OK). Laura then gets a $450 R...then lands on $3,500...and lights up FIVE S's! Wow! After buying 4 I's...

...she knows THE POSSIBILITIES ARE ENDLESS when it comes to this game, so she's won another $17,700!

Laura: $22,500
Mike: $10,148
Toss-Up 3: On the map (the other OTM, LOL)

I thought the city would be SYRACUSE, but Laura locates BROOKLYN, NEW YORK to break the $25K mark!
Round 4: Rhyme time
Laura finds a $600 R and buys an A and an E before lighting up a $400 S. She next finds 2 I's to clean out the vowels already and then gets a $300 K. But then she bombs out with B on $300 (she thought the 2nd word was BAKES). Mike can't find a C on $300. April lights up a $1,000 M pair (the 2nd word's MAKES) and JUST barely hangs on to $800...but loses her turn to an L. Laura calls another negative of N on $300, and that means...

...and knows MIGHT MAKES RIGHT for $12,000! He has a nice 2nd-place total as you will see below...
Wrong Letters (all before the Final Spin): B (Laura), C (Mike), L (April), N (Laura)
April: $1,000 consolation prize
Laura: $25,500, all cash!
Mike: $22,148 cash and cruise
Maingame Winnings: A respectable $48,648!
Bankrupt Trash: $2,100 cash and gift tag (all from R3)
Bonus Round: Thing (one-wordy alert)
If Laura's a hero, she'll earn either the BMW or the Trailblazer.
She brought her husband Ron and sister-in-law Tracy and lands on the 3-Star (but she nearly hit the H in CASH).
RSTLNE makes me think it's a compound word...

Unfortunately, DWCO are all DUDS! That means we've got a SHUTOUT on the premiere week. Darn it. And Pat tells her way too little, too late that it rhymes with PORKRIFT (and she goes "Oh no!")...it was FORKLIFT, and she loses $40,000. But she still leaves with $25,500, all cash.
Charlie plugs the Wheel Watchers Club sign-up.
Speaking of the trip to Belgium (the featured prize), we see that's country's version of Wheel of Fortune ("Rad Van Fortuin"). Still like the shopping era.
