An episode that almost didn't happen thanks to a pair of Muppets, specifically Kermit and Gonzo. Thank you, Vanna, for saving the day!
Airdate: May 21, 1999
From Sony Pictures Studio, it's America's game! Welcome to Wheel Goes to the Movies!
Action! Today's contestants:
Shari Scott: Staffing specialist for a major auto manufacturer, loves animals, Pontiac, MI
Mike Hallahan: Cable company sub-contractor, high school sports broadcaster and college women's soccer coach, Belmar, NJ
Autumn Peebles: Junior at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, plans to become a grade 1 teacher, San Jacinto, CA
The top-dollar value is $1,000. What does Kermit have against this? Well, here's our first puzzle:
Mike solves OFFICE BUILDING. He could earn a $3,000...bonus.
He immediately solves DIRECTORY.
You might not need to work much for this Sony home entertainment system and Columbia/Tristar library (labeled SONY) worth $2,548.
Kermit still wants something! A $2,500 and one-third $10,000 space might not be enough. They still want Vanna! Maybe muppet Vanna. But someone must stand at the board for this round!
Shari solves WAYNE GRETZKY HANGS UP HIS SKATES.
It might not be green, but we have added another prize: A trip to Casablanca (labeled TRIP) worth $9,200.
Possibly Kermit's rivals, the $3,500 and Jackpot spaces! So let's get to the third round already!
Shari solves GETTING IN UNDER THE WIRE.
Thanks to Muppets, Vanna's wardrobe is no longer safe...
Will Shari have the same luck with the $5,000 space?
Shari solves CONSONANTS & VOWELS to keep the Casablanca trip.
And another round...
DING DING! DING DING!
A puzzle this short might need a Final Spin. Pat will do it, of course, and hit...$600.
Autumn: G (DUD!)
Shari: W (DUD!)
Mike: B (DUD!)
Autumn: K (DUD!)
Shari: Y (x2) ($1,200)
Shari solves PAYDAY.
Autumn missed her own payday, so she takes home some nice parting gifts.
BONUS ROUND:
There are four envelopes left in Bonus Land, including the Corvette, Home Theater, and the $25,000.
Shari hopes for a payday from the second E, which will be determined by this puzzle:
RSTLNE gives her...
After accidentally picking T and E (after W and V, respectively), Shari finishes up with FWVA:
She then says that it's not FLOWER VASE, which didn't fit with "the original package" anyway. She doesn't solve FLOPPY DISK...
...and can't take home the Home Theater package. She still finishes with $18,100.
And in the post-game chat, director Dick Carson appears on stage, and Pat and Vanna give him a wonderful goodbye.
Mark Corwin becomes the director on the next show.
