Yes, at least some visual evidence exists for a third 1975 episode, at 3:55 in the below video. While it's pretty brief (something like 2-3 seconds), there's some evidence that it's worth noting: namely, the minimum value is $100 with two $500 spaces as top value, but Buy A Vowel and the special space outlines aren't present (so basically, the layout best recognized from June 7, 1976); it seems the doors might not be there either, and I think Chuck might be entering the normal way, but the clip's so brief I can't be sure on either. Still, something else exists! [EDIT 7/7/17: In case anybody stumbles across this, it turns out this clip is actually from the May 20, 1976 show, one of the episodes that until recent years could only be viewed at Paley Center.]

If you had to guess, what part of 1975 would you put that to? Definitely fall 1975 at least, due to the lack of Buy A Vowel...

Another revelation, doesn't this kind of debunk what King World said years ago about all of the NBC episodes of Wheel before 1985 being wiped? If the policy was to wipe the episodes, then why does this one exist?
This special took place in 1984, 9 years after 1975. If they were going to wipe that episode, wouldn't they have done it long before this special aired?

Who says that clip came from a studio master? For all we know, some private collector with a 1975 episode may have contributed the footage...

When's the last time you've heard of a network using footage provided by a private collector for a TV special? And it seemed too high quality for a 1975 recording. Then again, I suppose it's not totally out of the question, but networks usually don't announce specials that they're doing until the production for it is actually completed.

When's the last time you've heard of a network using footage provided by a private collector for a TV special? If the footage in question is the only existing footage of its kind, I could see a network possibly going to an organization like the Paley Center or the Smithsonian... which reminds me, didn't one of those institutions get a ton of rare game show footage (1975 Wheel, original version of High Rollers, etc) from Andy Warhol's estate, I think?

Andy Warhol was a big game show fan? This is news to me.

From the Wikipedia page for "High Rollers", under "Episode Status",
"A studio master copy of the June 11, 1975 episode and the Warhol collection copy of the July 4, 1975 show are available for viewing at The Paley Center for Media."
So he at least liked High Rollers FWIW...

Now, I'm not saying it is, but remember, we don't know much before June of 1976. It is possible that they may have still used the chroma-key in very early 1976. I don't know if any of you can prove it is indeed from 1975, but I just wanted to throw that possibility out there just in case.

...and I think Chuck might be entering the normal way... Of course he is! This is him right here: Which brings up the fact that this may have been before November 3, because in this clip, the lights are off... but on November 3 they were on.

Which, to me at least, raises the question of when Buy A Vowel was kicked out, since it's not present here...

When's the last time you've heard of a network using footage provided by a private collector for a TV special? GSN has used clips from collectors for specials, such as the "Top 10 Hosts" countdown. I'm pretty sure NBC's Most Outrageous Game Show Moments specials did the same thing. didn't one of those institutions get a ton of rare game show footage (1975 Wheel, original version of High Rollers, etc) from Andy Warhol's estate, I think? It was Paley Center, but if Warhol taped Wheel in '75 (or at all) we probably would've found something about that by now. I know he also taped an episode of The Moneymaze, so there's that. Now, I'm not saying it is, but remember, we don't know much before June of 1976. It is possible that they may have still used the chroma-key in very early 1976. I don't know if any of you can prove it is indeed from 1975, but I just wanted to throw that possibility out there just in case. Mario went to Paley Center some time ago and saw the two earliest episodes they have (All-Star Dream Machine Day 1 and 5/20/76). Neither had the chroma-key in the opening. ...and I think Chuck might be entering the normal way... Of course he is! This is him right here: I wasn't sure if that was Chuck; for all I knew, it could've been a staff member. Which, to me at least, raises the question of when Buy A Vowel was kicked out, since it's not present here... If William's logic is sound (and given his posts about Wheel layouts, I'm inclined to say it is), before November 3.

Speaking of the layouts, I am about to update the (probably entire) layouts page on the Wiki. Do you think I should include the 'white border' layout from the Dream Machine episode, Dan? Or is that not necessary?

I would include it, mainly because the $1500 was tan/gold, not orange then.

To William, I saw your updates to the layouts page, and I like that you did include the gold $1500. However, one thing I'm a little curious about... from what you've got up there, am I to assume that you're now saying that the first show without Buy A Vowel was ALSO the first show with the $500/$1000/$1500 structure? I know the previous charts had "interim" layouts with Buy A Vowel kicked out, but retaining the original $500/$750/$1000 setup, do you no longer believe that to be the case? Just curious...

I don't necessarily believe that was the case, but I stated in the edit that I no longer put any configurations that we have no hard evidence of existing.

Something else I just noticed about this clip -- the white teardrop-shaped flippers are present!
So yes, I'm with William in that this is definitely pre-November 3, which means Buy A Vowel's retirement isn't as clear-cut as it used to be.

How exactly would that place the clip before November 3?

How exactly would that place the clip before November 3? On the wiki he mentioned that in this clip, the lights were off during the intro. He's assuming that because of the lights being on for the November 3 intro, that this clip comes from before that point...
