I know I'm whining here....
I just got a call from Who Wants To Be A Millionaire! I've been trying to get on this show for years. I was excited because my Wheel imposed "TIME OUT" is over next week ( no shows for 6 months after your episode AIRS ). I auditioned again last week.
After a few very exciting minutes on the phone with a Millionaire producer - I get punched in the gut. Their rules require no shows for 1 year before they CALL you (not when your episode would air ). By the time I have 1 year after my episode airs, they will have wrapped for the season. I'll still be in the contestant pool for the following year, but I hope I didn't miss my one shot at this.
( I probably should have read their eligibility rules, but to be fair I did fully disclose my Wheel appearance on all of my paperwork.)
I absolutely have no regrets about Wheel - just dumb founded by the irony that for the YEARS I was eligible, no phone call. The one season I can't do it, I get the phone call.

My personal downside is the 1 and done rule I knew about the 1 year between shows since that's standard for most shows. Didn't know about wheel's 6 month cooling off period until that day.

So this means if I wanna go on Wheel and the Feud, I have to wait 1.5 yrs. instead of one if I go on Wheel first. And then likely wait a whole another season...depending on how FF works.
Sorry about that Julie.

Sorry about that Julie. No the 6 months runs concurrent to the 1 year wait by most other shows. Ex: Wheel will let me go in October, but Millionaire wouldn't let me go until next April.

As a general rule, you have to wait one year from the initial broadcast to be on another show. I extended this "probationary period" to mean that I couldn't even apply for another show. For the record, I haven't. But, this thread should clarify things for me as I proceed on my future game show adventures.

I was excited because my Wheel imposed "TIME OUT" is over next week ( no shows for 6 months after your episode AIRS ). Does anyone know if Wheel's "time out" period is still 6 months after your show airs? I'm applying for 500 Questions and wanted to make sure I wasn't violating anything I signed for Wheel, but I can't remember what the period was. My episode aired in October, so six months from that is late April. So does that mean I can't APPLY for another game show before that time, or TAPE another game show before that time, or have another appearance AIR before that time?

I don't think it's fair that when on "Jeopardy", you win the main game, you're allowed to return to compete on the next show whereas on "Wheel", you play the one game, win or lose the bonus round, you're out the door, and they're brother-sister shows. I also never understood why the nighttime "WOF" didn't have returning champions until the seventh season whereas the daytime show had returning champions from the get-go. Also, I remember when I auditioned for the show (the Wheelmobile tryouts) the applications said "You are not eligible to audition if you've appeared on any other version of "Wheel of Fortune", that also included "Wheel 2000". I met someone at that audition who was a contestant on the kiddie version (I don't remember his name), he was there with a buddy of his and they wanted to audition together ("Best Friends Week") and I'll never forget the look on his face (he was excited and happy) when he learned he couldn't audition for the Pat & Vanna version. My heart broke for him

I had something similar happen to me last October. I submitted an audition video for Millionaire and they called me back right away. But then it all came to a screeching halt when I told them it hadn't been one year since my appearance on The Price is Right. It was only a few weeks shy. Now that it has been a year, I wonder if they still have me on file and will me give a call. I'm not holding my breath though.

Well, I got my answer (from Gary): For anyone else that may have the same question, from the "contestant release form": "I have not taped an appearance on any other television game show, dating/relationship show or “reality” show which has been (or may be) aired within one year of my appearance on this program, and I agree not to tape an appearance on any of the above types of television shows until six (6) months after the initial broadcast of my appearance on Wheel of Fortune." 500 Questions is taping in March, so it looks like I'll have to sit this one out.

That means no Celebrity Name Game auditions for me and I have to abstain from taking future JEOPARDY! Online Tests.

(emphasis mine) Crikey, I keep forgetting about that part. Not like it matters since my window has come and gone, but I don't recall any of the other shows I've been on having that kind of stipulation.

Yeah, I noticed that too. If I'm not mistaken, Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? and Family Feud tape their entire seasons during the Summer, so if you're on Wheel between about February and June you'll have to wait until next year to potentially get on either of those. The OP noted that Millionaire requires one year between last game show appearance and call, which if I'm not mistaken on the taping thing above basically means that if you're on a game show at any point during the previous television season, you're not getting on the next season of Millionaire. I don't think it's fair that when on "Jeopardy", you win the main game, you're allowed to return to compete on the next show whereas on "Wheel", you play the one game, win or lose the bonus round, you're out the door, and they're brother-sister shows. Wheel's official reasoning is twofold: per the website, they want as many people as possible to play the game; per Pat, good puzzle solvers can keep hitting Bankrupt/Lose A Turn while not-so-good ones can luck into a runaway game. The latter is what kinda bothers me, since luck is a natural part of a game that's been described for years as "hangman meets roulette" and such scenarios still happen anyway. Given the show's taping habits, the other-other reason seems to be along the lines of "Having returning players means we can't tape/air in whatever order we want and can't do America's Game shows." I also never understood why the nighttime "WOF" didn't have returning champions until the seventh season whereas the daytime show had returning champions from the get-go. I'm not sure, but given that daytime and nighttime Wheel were virtually identical until the Big Month of Cash in Season 5, "no returning champs" might have been a way to distinguish the two versions. I remember when I auditioned for the show (the Wheelmobile tryouts) the applications said "You are not eligible to audition if you've appeared on any other version of "Wheel of Fortune", that also included "Wheel 2000". My heart broke for him For me, this is the most head-scratching part of the eligibility requirements in regard to other versions/hosts -- Wheel 2000 was a low-budget show designed to be educational (to fulfill the E/I requirements for Saturday-morning network programming) and differed so much from the parent show that I don't think it should be lumped in with the other versions. Say what you will about the shopping era, but it at least had prizes you probably actually wanted to take home, whereas on Wheel 2000 I think the computer they sometimes offered in the Bonus Round might have been the best of the lot.

I think lost among all of this is the fact that this was a bump of a thread that was nearly a year and a half old.
I'll let it slide this time, since discussion actually came of it...but we generally frown upon this.

Well, it was pretty relevant conversation though to the original post. Makes sense to keep it to 1 thread?
And I wasn't aware FF only taped during summers. I'd def have to wait to be on next season then if I was chosen, but I'm not sure how long they keep families in their contestant pool...
