As some of you may know, I have a love for passenger liners. In Philadelphia, there is a liner named the United States. Having made her record-setting maiden voyage in 1952, she has been sitting at a dock in Philadelphia in 1996 without ever moving. The slowly detereorating liner has been bought to be preserved in 2011, but it costs more than $80,000 a month to keep her from the scrapyards. The bad news is that she will not be able to sail again, but if all works out, she will be in New York as the eastern counterpart of the Queen Mary, which is a hotel in Long Beach, California. I'm proud to be American, and I love ocean liners. The United States is the last American liner afloat and should be considered a national landmark. I've never been to Philadelphia, but I want to see her in person so badly. If anyone is interested in keeping this liner alive, there are two sites I know of where you can donate. www.ssusc.org/ www.savetheunitedstates.org/ So far, I've been unable to afford to help, but if you're able to and if you're interested, please check them out when you get the chance. I just thought I'd bring this up in case anyone wants to help out. If I were to win big on Wheel of Fortune (no, I haven't even auditioned yet in case you're wondering) I'd certainly use some of my winnings to help keep the United States alive and maybe even make a "Changing Lines" segment. Who knows? Maybe it will be my donation that cements a bright future for her.
