Don't worry! It's not something you'll be missing on TV. I am creating my own game show called Power Grid. I think I have a pretty solid concept that I would like to try out on you guys. I'll have more details within the next few days as I'm still putting the finishing touches on the rules and such.

So I spent the last few days going over rules, gameplay, and general tweaking of everything to make sure it's pretty solid. It's a small bit of a read but check it out and tell me what you think. I would love to give this a live test run once I have questions and decent powerpoint written up.
POWER GRID A GAME OF FAST TRIVIA AND ELECTRIC FUN
GOAL: In each round of play, players must make their way through the grid towards the power surge square. This square ends the round and the player with the least amount of money after the power surge question will be eliminated.
GAMEPLAY: At the beginning of each round the players will choose a starting place along the outside of the grid. A draw will be determined for the order of play for the first grid (All subsequent rounds will begin with the player who banked the least amount of money in the previous round).
When a players steps onto a square it reveal either a cash value, boost, or penalty. The player will then be asked a question. If he/she is right, they will claim the square and its contents. The player will continue to move along the grid (horizontally or vertically) and answer questions as long as they give correct answers unless the give an incorrect answer or find a penalty square.
If a player answers a question incorrectly, the other players then have a chance to steal the square. If successful, he/she can choose to take the square’s contents and put a resistor in its place or jump to the square in hopes of gaining a better position on the grid. However, a resistor will be put in the square’s place if none of the other players can answer the question correctly. Control will remain with the current player and he/she will select another square.
QUESTION VALUES: Grid 001 (6x6): $25, $50, $100, $250 Grid 010 (5x5): $50, $100, $250, $500 Grid 011 (4x4): $100, $250, $500, $1000
SPECIAL SQUARES: • POWER SURGE o The goal square on the power grid. When a player is within two squares of the power surge their current will begin to glow. The player who finds this square will instantly receive a bonus equal to the highest dollar value revealed on the grid. He/she also triggers a toss-up question to end the round. The value of the power surge question is determined by a set value plus the amount of money displayed on the grid from revealed squares. o VALUES Grid 001: $500 Grid 010: $1,000 Grid 011: $2,500
• BOOSTS o STEAL The player who finds this square can choose to take money or a square (as indicated on the square) from the player of their choice. o +1 The player who finds this square will gain an extra square to add to their flow of current. o REVEAL The player who finds this square has a chance to reveal the location of the power surge square. If he/she can answer their next question correctly, then the other players are blindfolded and the power surge square is revealed. If answered incorrectly, that player is blindfolded and the power surge square is revealed to the other players.
• PENALTIES o RESISTORS Resistors are blocks hidden on the grid equal to the number of columns on the grid. If a contestant finds one of the resistors he/she must return to the square they were previously on. A toss-up question will then be ask to determine which of the other players has control of the grid. o BLACKOUT A contestant who finds this square must answer the next question correctly. If they fail to do so, the contestant will lose half of the money they’ve earned in the current round, their path will blackout and be replace by resistors, and they will have to restart their flow using a different path beginning from the outside of the grid. The question becomes a toss-up and the same rules apply for any other player who answers incorrectly. If at any time a player becomes completely blocked in by resistors and/or another player’s path, he/she will automatically blackout.
END GAMES: • GOLDEN GRID OF WEALTH o If a champion is not established due to a champion retiring, that day’s winner will play the Grid of Wealth for $10,000. The player will attempt to answer a minimum of 9 questions in a time determined by the number of correct answers given during the name game. o For each correct answer given by the player 3 seconds are added to the bonus round clock. o With each correct answer given, the player will take a step forward on the grid and vice versa for each incorrect answer given. o If the contestant cannot complete the grid in the allotted time he/she will receive $500 for each step taken on the grid. Regardless of the outcome, the player will come back as champion on the next show • GOLD CURRENT FACE-OFF o This end game involves the day’s winner and the current champion. o The round begins by the champion choosing a dollar value to play for from a grid of 9 squares. o On the first show as a reigning champ the values that can be played for range from $10,000 to $50,000, the next show $20,000 to $60,000 and the pattern continues up to $50,000 to $100,000 or until the champ is defeated. o If the day’s winner can defeat the champion, he/she will take over as champ on the next show ad earn the money from the square selected o GAMEPLAY: It takes 6 correct answers to win the face-off and all questions asked are toss-up questions. If a player answers incorrectly, he/she is locked out of the next question. If both players answer the same question incorrectly, the amount being played for will be cut in half. There is no penalty if either player does not attempt to answer a question.

The basic rules seem pretty straightforward--answer questions, uncover the "goal" square, don't get blocked in.
I think the boosts and penalties would be better if they didn't require a question to claim them. The player had the good (or bad) fortune of finding them, so they should be the only ones who reap the benefits (or suffer the consequences). Plus it wouldn't slow the game down, which is what you want if this is a half-hour show.
Although, why not just have the same two challengers play the entire main game and make it a best of three? Any money accumulated along the way in the main game could go into a pot that starts at the set value for the Power Surge you specified, and then when someone finds the Power Surge square, they claim the pot. It adds a bit more of an all-or-nothing factor for each player that the game (as it stands right now) doesn't quite have. (Elimination's one thing, but keeping them in the game longer and adding that element of risk to the game makes for better TV, IMO.)
As for the endgames, I like the Golden Grid of Wealth better (though I think you could change the name to something like The Money Generator or something). The Gold Current Face-Off loses a bit of the electrical theme if it's just a six-question shootout. Plus it never made a whole lot of sense to me to have the challenger potentially play a 5-time champ for $100,000 and then the next day be forced to play for $20,000. (Extreme values, but you get the idea.)
I'm picking nits here, but you have a solid idea and I'd love to see it in action one day.

Thanks for the input and suggestions Josh.
I didn't think about making the penalties and boosts automatic but I definitely see where you're coming from. For REVEAL and BLACKOUT I definitely want that to be something a player would has to fight for, win or lose.
When I first started thinking about the game I had 6 people competing but realized that would take way too long. Two seems a bit dangerous especially for a best of three situation. Four feels like a perfect medium to me.
I realized I used gold for both endgames but, oh well. The name can always be changed and The Golden Generator sounds kinda catchy.
Another idea I had for the face-off is the challenger always plays for $10,000 if he/she defeats the champ. As for the value of the champ, it could be reduced by half of the value selected with each incorrect answer.
What I'm hoping for is to generate some interest here on the boards and then once I get questions and a PPT together do something on LiveStream of whatever we used for Game Show Extravaganza during the summer.

You'll want to make the sure the board game Power Grid doesn't have trademark for that phrase in the game marketplace. Not too much of a concern unless your game takes off.

It's no big deal. I had an alternate name already picked out in case that was a problem.

Sorry for bumping this up after so long but I finally got around to revising the rules a bit. I got rid of one of the bonus rounds and I think it's a bit more solid. Had a play through with some good friends of mine and they seemed to enjoy it. Let me know what you think of the revised rules.
All questions are toss-up questions unless otherwise designated. If a player answers a question correctly he/she will step onto a square to reveal cash, a boost, or a penalty. If a player answers a question incorrectly, the other players then have a chance to steal the square. If successful, he/she takes the square’s contents and places a resistor in its place.
QUESTION VALUES: Grid 001 (8x8): $25, $50, $75, $100, $250 - The first grid is a bank building round and no players will be eliminated Grid 010 (7x7): $50, $75, $100, $250, $500 Grid 011 (6x6): $75, $100, $250, $500, $750 Grid 100 (5x5): $100, $250, $500, $750, $1,000
SPECIAL SQUARES: • POWER SURGE o The goal square on the power grid. When a player is within one square of the power surge their path will begin to glow. Finding the power surge square triggers a toss-up question to end the round. The value of the power surge question is determined by a set value plus the amount of money from correctly answered questions. o VALUES Grid 001: $500 Grid 010: $1,000 Grid 011: $1,500 Grid 100: $2,000 • BOOSTS o PRIZE The player will earn a special prize (Car, Cash, Trips, etc.) that is theirs to keep no matter the outcome of the game. o STEAL The player who finds this square can choose to take money or a square (as indicated on the square) from the player of their choice. o +1 The player who finds this square will gain an extra square to add to their flow of current. o REVEAL The player who finds this square has a chance to reveal the location of the power surge square. If he/she can answer their next question correctly, then the other players are blindfolded and the power surge square is revealed. If answered incorrectly, that player is blindfolded and the power surge square is revealed to the other players.
• PENALTIES o BLOWN FUSE If a player finds this square he will be given a question requiring a list of answers equal to the number of squares in the player’s path. • Example: If the player has 7 squares the question might be… o What are the names of the 7 dwarves from ‘Snow White and the Seven Dwarves’? The player will have 15 seconds to answer the question. If any items from the list are missing, then the players lose the number of squares equal to the numbers of answers missing. o RESISTORS Resistors are blocks hidden on the grid equal to the number of columns on the grid. If a contestant finds one of the resistors he/she must return to the square they were previously on. o BLACKOUT A contestant who finds this square must answer the next question correctly. If they fail to do so, the contestant will lose all of the money they’ve earned in the current round, their path will blackout and be replace by resistors, and they will have to restart their flow using a different path beginning from the outside of the grid. Another player can attempt to answer the question but the same rules apply for any other player who answers incorrectly. If at any time a player becomes completely blocked in by resistors and/or another player’s path, he/she will automatically blackout.
END GAME • GOLDEN GRID OF WEALTH o The day’s winner will play the Grid of Wealth for up to $100,000. The player will attempt to answer a minimum of 10 questions in a time determined by the number of correct answers given during the main game. o For each correct answer given by the player in the main game, 3 seconds are added to the bonus round clock (60 seconds). o With each correct answer given, the player will take a step forward on the grid. An incorrect answer will lower the value of the square by half. Three consecutive incorrect answers and a resistor will be placed on the path. $1,000-$500-$250-Resistor o If the contestant can complete the grid without placing any resistors along the way, then the contestant’s bank in the end game will be multiplied by 10 for up to $100,000. o If the contestant cannot complete the grid in the allotted time he/she will receive the value of the uncovered squares from correct answers. Regardless of the outcome, the player will come back as champion on the next show.
