Let's look on the bright side: Had the million been hit again so soon, they would've had to pull out the Goen wheel to get the budget back in check. TPH is exactly right: Yeah, that was a sad ending, but the maingame was pretty good. Racking up over $40K without a $6K speedup is always pretty impressive.

Well, it had to happen one day. And if it had to happen, I suppose at least it was on a puzzle that, with her letter choices, she had, well, a one-in-a-million chance of getting. Sure, she could have picked better letters, but even with better letters there's no guarantee she would not have frozen up on the puzzle, which would have then made the loss even more painful. (Not to mention there's no guarantee that any supposed "good letters" would actually turn out good.
At any rate, she did plenty good in the maingame, especially in R1.

Well, that was terrible. Partly I was spoiled by Emil's Twitter (don't worry), but since he didn't say anything specific I thought that it was a $100K loss. So, when Whitney picked up the MDW I understood what was going to happen... I feel very sorry for her. And Pat's face... He didn't know what to say to her, he looked really affected. A big pity because it would have been the first season with two millionaires (and it would have been VERY difficult to repeat).
But as you say, he played really good. About the maingame... R1 puzzle was overcharged of adjectives (neither A, E nor O? What kind of puzzle is it?). And I also felt sorry for Albert. Any chances for him to play.

I didn't get to see the episode but someone posted a clip of the BR on FB. I will say, like most, that it was a totally winnable puzzle. The clip starts showing the T's and the A from which I got it almost instantly. The title of the clip is a little misleading saying "Million Dollar Heartbreaker" I could understand if it would've been an 11 second solve but for the average player, I'm guessing she was, she really had no chance in hell. I will say I didn't feel to badly considering that she already banked $41K+. I'm gonna go Noel Edmonds here and stating the obvious that no guy has yet won or even landed on the MDE in the BR. I'm sure there is someone out there who could do this but, I wonder what the ratio is for men vs. women to take the MDW to the BR and what the W-L ratio is for each gender. Obviously, we're looking at what-ifs here but I think it would be interesting to look at. With so many more female players than male players, the stats may not be as far off as you think. I've started to be curious about the ratio of viewers by gender, and couldn't find those stats. The average age of viewers is actually over 65 though. Wow. They really need to put the show on hulu or something.

I know the usual ratio is 2-1 on most occasions except during Armed Forces Week when at least two of the shows feature an all-male matchup. The stats I was considering may not reveal much but knowing how often people solve during a MDBR would be nice to see.

Yeah, lousan92, I give you some liberties since it's not your native language. I was only singling out a single common grammar mistake in what I hoped was a humorous way.

Overall, we've had worse $100,000 loss episodes than this. Scratch that part. After some thought, it doesn't necessarily have to involve a $100,000 loss, but it's not going to involve a Bonus Round win either unless it's just barely solved with only two letters missing. Episodes with slow play in Rounds 1-3 and combined main-game winnings of less than $18,000 will likely fit the category. Multiple missolves or "bankrupt-paloozas" (the latter even if the contestants are actually good solvers) can cause this as well. Point still stands, this was nowhere near horrible. I'd agree with the 5 and 6 ratings that I saw.
