How often has Jeopardy! been doing remotes? Almost NEVER. That's the point I was trying to make. I'm not convinced Wheel really needs the remotes too much for the ratings. Hell, when Woolery was holding down the fort, they never played anywhere else but the NBC studios in Burbank.

You guys are making a big deal out of nothing. There is no rule saying the show has to travel, it's still the same show and the same Wheel regardless of where they are, and there are still plenty of people willing to make the trip to California to be on the show.

There is no rule saying the show has to travel Nobody said or even insinuated there was. What we are saying, though, is that a tradition like this, once broken, is sometimes hard to re-establish. it's still the same show and the same Wheel regardless of where they are I disagree. Often you will see a lot more energy from both players and audience on the location shows, which can make for more exciting games than the normal Culver City ones. there are still plenty of people willing to make the trip to California to be on the show. Again, nobody said this wasn't the case. Offering a location shoot or not has nothing to do with player count.

I wouldn't be surprised if sponsors (or, rather, a lack thereof) came into play. I would guess that tourism boards and whatnot help to defray the costs of the show doing its remotes...and if they couldn't find anyone willing to contribute, they probably don't have the money to justify doing a remote. Something like this probably wouldn't have happened if the show hadn't deliberately stopped offering prizes other than cars and trips. They shot themselves in the foot with that move 15 years ago. You know, I wonder if and how badly the Sony hacking incident took a toll on budgets. My first thought upon seeing the news was also about the leaks, but more in a "Well, our plans for international shows got leaked, so screw you we're not gonna do it." kind of way. I think, though, we're all underestimating how much it costs for the show to go anywhere. You have to consider [...] the costs to haul the set from Culver City to the remote location (and getting the Wheel to Hawaii can't be easy) I think this can be solved by having a separate "road show" Wheel and puzzle board. Use less expensive/heavy electronics, maybe have just a three-line puzzle board, and go the "cardboard, paint, and light bulbs" route for the Wheel with the same amount of resistance that the current Wheel has. The cost of making the new props will be offset by their much lower transport costs. There are other ways of drawing in eyeballs than just going to different locales every year. If somebody who has some connection to the show is reading this: returning champions, no limits barring "team" weeks and the like. And for "team" weeks and such, bring back the Friday Finals. Heck, get celebs playing the game again, because I seriously don't think every single celeb ever all unanimously decided to stop playing your game.

Let's just do exactly the same 39 weeks as S32, even the Hawaii weeks because with all the Hawaii PPs they basically are in Hawaii

J! has done a number of remotes over the years. The IBM Challenge (that had Watson the supercomputer playing) was taped from where it's located (in New York state).

I actually live in the same town as the IBM TJ Watson Research Center where those shows were taped. I definitely would have went if they had invited the public, but they only allowed IBM employees and reporters to watch. I didn't even know about the tapings until that same day when the local news did a story on it.

My guess is probably more in that the parent company, Sony, rather than Wheel itself is losing money; which means everybody is getting forced to find ways to cut costs, including their cash cows. Why spend an extra $500k-$1 million (I don't know what it costs, I'm just throwing a random number) going on the road when that could be used to minimize Sony's deficit.

Jess pretty much confirmed that was the case last November, yeah. I still say increasing the price of vowels to $1,000 or $1,500 would help things a bit.

You know, it'd be cool that perhaps to make up for not doing any remotes they instead did a celebrity week.
It may be a far off possibility, but hey, I'm a hopeful person.

How much does a celebrity week cost compared to a road show? I don't know how appearances work when it's for charity, but I mean, you have 15 celebrities.

To have celebrities pair up with contestants is always nice since money goes to charity, but there was something I wanted to bring up here since no remote tapings will be done.
You have those location tribute weeks like Wheel Loves L.A., Wheel Loves New York, Wheel Loves Hawaii, Salute to Chicago, etc. Would city tribute weeks make a good substitute for remote tapings? Who thinks so/not and why?

germanname the city weeks in Culver city would work to replace the remote weeks. Love Chicago Salute, Wheel Loves NY and Wheel Loves LA! A great idea! Hope they do a Seattle week and Denver Colorado week!

If I get picked for Denver Week, that would be ironic.

They had a San Francisco Week back in the last week of 2002. They could try that again.
I also think they should so another Chicago or South Florida Week.
