I think it's safe to assume Rock On! is not going to be used again. Out of respect for Charlie, I think you're right. If they did use it, I would be disappointed.

Alrighty. I label 1/2 Cars by 1-2 in R1, 3-4 in R2, 5-6 in R3. The probability is just impossible to calculate exactly, so let's use real games to estimate the ratio of cars lost due to the rule change. This is based on a sample of 780 shows, all of the past four seasons - a pretty damn good sample size, I hope.
If you think about it, the only thing that is going to change is that you can't space out your 1/2 Cars across 3 rounds (a combo of 1/5, 1/6, 2/5, or 2/6), and everything else will stay the same. Therefore, you get these numbers, with 1 time that 5-6 were won with an extraneous 1 or 2, so the number is really 8/86, or surprisingly, only about 10%.
I wonder if Harry saw a good chunk of 1/2 Cars being instantly won in R1 due to some semi-common spin patterns for 2k winners, and thought this would be the solution? Because I'm sure those type of spinners will not come up at a similar rate in R2-3 too (and I bet have if you look at it) but have already (just a shift of spin pattern or the 2k winner on that particular day - independent variables that shouldn't change the expected rate at all) and this would be the wrong way of looking at it.
With 21.5 car wins a season on average, I will predict just a 2-3 car win drop this season - 18-19 cars.

If there are 42 categories, why must we switch back and forth between two during Round 2?

Before & After and Same Name are my 2 favorite categories. I've always had a fondness for B&A.
They hardly ever use these categories in R1 because I think they want to have a simplistic start to the game. Seeing as the prize puzzle is R3 and they really couldn't use these categories for that round, R2 seems to make more sense to use one of these categories.

They COULD use those categories for the PP (and they did use B&A at least a couple times early in the PP's [permanent] history), but they won't. They could also use shorter ones for R4+, but again, they won't. They do occasionally appear in R1, but yeah, you pretty much summed up the show's logic that R2 is the only appropriate place for them.

They've used SAME LETTER numerous times for R3's prize puzzle.

I was refering to the three most common categories in R2. I know, Same Letter has been used in R3.

To make the wheel more appealing and to also get rid of that horrible 500/550/600 cluster, they should consider making these 3 changes:
Red $700 to $750 Blue $550 to $850 Purple $650 to $550
Maybe they'll do this in season 34 or 35.

IIRC, mechamind recalls it being used once around 2000 for a puzzle involving dog trick phrases. That's the only record of it ever being used. However, one recent puzzle of "KNOCK KNOCK WHO'S THERE?" possibly would have been categorized as Phrases if Phrase hadn't been used earlier in the episode, so it was categorized as Quotation insread. I wonder if that PHRASES puzzle was "ROLL OVER & PLAY DEAD"?

No, the puzzle I wrote about was SIT SPEAK SHAKE PAW ROLL OVER & LIE DOWN. There couldn't have been any commas, as when the blanks were revealed I first thought the top line was one "phrase", not two.

I think it's possible the main reason CLASSIC TV isn't used anymore is because the current population doesn't know much about classic TV shows, which is a true shame. I love a lot of classic shows and pride myself on my knowledge of them!

the current population doesn't know much about classic TV shows ...but Wheel's puzzle writers don't seem to know much about the current stuff?

Phrases. They don't know a lick about phrases, either, although I suspect that's intentional.
They've also never used anything like TWERKING, either. They seem to shy away from memes in general, actually.
/would love to see I'M ON A BOAT as a puzzle //or NYAN CAT ///or U MAD BRO ////or YOU JUST LOST THE GAME

^^^Honestly, I'm glad they do shy away from stuff like this.
Yes, they do have young fans but let's face it, mostly older people watch this show and they wouldn't have a clue what twerking is---I WISH I didn't know.
By the way, I'm 32 and I've been a loyal wheel watcher for many years and I love to play at home with my homemade wheel!

One thing I've never agreed with and I'm still hoping they change eventually:
If you solve no puzzles at all you get $1,000. This is great.
But if you do solve the $1,000 toss-up and nothing else, then you should get $2,000 because you'd get $1,000 anyway and you actually earned that first $1,000 for solving a puzzle.
Make sense to anyone else?
