Before the end of Round 1 of my game that aired 5/7/1998 (Houston Week), I realized something rather important: I couldn't see the used letter board or the scoreboard one bit due to a bright light shining directly into my face. At the end of both Rounds 1 and 2, I brought this to the attention of the stagehands who were helping us with things, such as our mics and name tags (mine fell off during R2), and each time they said they would get someone to take care of it. No action was taken as far as I could tell though. So what did I do after that? Nothing. I was so caught up in how exciting it was to play Wheel for real that I just let it go and didn't think about it again for some time.
So BAV Board community, what would you have done in my shoes? Would you have: - done exactly what I did? - tried bringing it to Pat's attention? - demanded that the game be stopped until it got fixed? - file a formal protest soon afterwards? - done nothing or something else not mentioned here?
Any of you former contestants out there experience anything similar? If so, what was the issue and how did you handle it?

Was the light in the way during the practice games? If so, I probably would have noticed then and would have told someone.
If they still hadn't fixed this, I probably would have made some kind of side comment about the light to Pat during the game. If it still wasn't fixed when all was said and done, I would've noted it again but probably wouldn't have demanded a redo.
Do you think the light was a problem for the other contestants or just for you?

MarioGS thanks for replying! Practice games? Wait, what are those? What we got to do before our games was practice spinning the wheel, calling out letters and clapping a few times. We didn't play mock rounds with puzzles to solve like we did during our final auditions and thus never had a need to check the used letter board. Yeah, I regret not bring up the issue with Pat. I was having such a blast interacting with him that the thought never crossed my mind. And yeah, I think I'm with you on not asking for a redo, although admittedly the thought does cross my mind every now and then. It was already such a blessing to have had the chance to play the game. Plus, not seeing the used letter board only impacted my gameplay during the speed-up round anyway. Pat didn't hit a large enough amount on his final spin that would've made winning the round profitable or made it possible for me to come back and win the game. Great question about whether I asked other contestants if they experienced the same problem during their games. Sadly I never did. If I ever run into one of them in the future, I'll make it a point to ask then.

Or maybe they just do things differently for the on-location shows? I'm also wondering if their having to set up everything for the first time in the Convention Center in Houston was the origin of the issue. Had I played in their tried and tested home studio maybe this wouldn't have happened. Here's a clip of that final round for everyone's consideration and enjoyment: youtu.be/4DP77_4BqZU

Two questions have been asked of the solve by the player at the yellow podium over the years:
1. Wait, what she said sounded more like ALL than OIL. Why was her solve declared correct?
2. Wait, Pat says you need to call a letter and THEN you'll be given a chance to solve during the speed-up round. Didn't she break the rules?
I can share how I've answered these questions, but I'm curious to know how you all would.

To answer the second question, it's perfectly legal to solve the Speed-Up puzzle on your turn without calling a letter first. It's just generally not a good strategy.

It's probably a good thing it's not a strict rule, because if a contestant manages to missolve a fully revealed puzzle and lose their turn, it would be impossible to complete the round afterwards.

WarioSajak agreed! And mechamind excellent point! Pat's explanation of the speed up round rules during his final spin is a basic one and not exhaustive. Hard to explain that to casual viewers of the show though. Your thoughts on question 1?

I happen to be from the south (New Orleans, to be exact), and when some people from those parts say "oil," it comes out sounding like "all." Perfectly fine by me.

WooWho in this particular case no worries IMO because I personally hear a bit of a short "i" sound when she says the second word in the puzzle anyway, making it sound more like OIL than ALL. But suppose she was like what you described where she pronounces the two words exactly the same way due to her particular accent. How do you know then she wasn't trying to say ALL instead of OIL? How do the rules for accepting and not accepting solves address this situation?
