So I assume since we're fans of Wheel, many of us also like word games in general. In preparation for the show, I've been looking for more word games to play. Of course, I've been playing the WoF app for iPhone (it's also for Windows 10, and maybe android?? If you also play it, PM me and we can together!). I've also gotten back into "Hanging With Friends" which is like hangman and from the same developer as "Words With Friends" (which I also play as a life-long Scrabble fan).
I've also downloaded a few generic hangman apps but haven't really found a great one. The best part of the current WoF app is the toss up practice. I remember an older WoF app had a "toss up only" mode, but I guess that version has been retired. A game like that with letters randomly filling in would be awesome to find.
A random lady said I should do cryptograms to help prepare and see letter patterns. I'm not so great at them. (Thoughts on cryptograms?)
So BAVers, what word games do YOU play?

Always have liked word games, as DPG practice or just Wheel practice. Words with Friends/Scrabble and the Jumble (have a full book of those things!) are my favorites. I wish I had the iPhone app, hey, maybe I'll get it today, worth the money certainly. Haven't heard of Hanging with Friends, but that sounds right up my ally. Share your concerns with Hangman apps, many of them are a bit too easy. Cryptograms, trying those out for this first time thanks to this post. I kinda get it, but would want to see others player it a bit first, kind of like how I learned Wheel, from the actual show, not to mention my mother always giving me Hangman puzzles growing up. As thought, it explains the importance of ETAOIN, a very useful skills for would-be players.

Oooo Jumble! I remember doing those in the paper! So fun! I had to look it up again thanks to your post. Found this website from the main Jumble page where there is apparently a daily one: www.uclickgames.com/jumble/online/daily/tmjmfIs the app "Just Jumble"? I'm downloading now and it's free but it does say "in app purchases." I've always loved unscrambling and word-search type games (how could I forget the hundreds of Boggle games I've played with friends?!) but wasn't sure they'd be helpful for Wheel prep. Can't hurt though, right?! Also, I agree about the cryptograms. I'm sure there's a strategy to solving I'm just not getting that would be apparent by watching others do it.

Other than Wheel and Wheel related games, I play the Scrabble mobile app against FB friends. kevin, I would've LOVED to have played the Wheel mobile app with you except I think I've gone through every single puzzle available in solo play.

All of us game show fans in one place and not one of us has mentioned Countdown yet? I'm godawful at the conundrum, but I do decently well in the letters games.
Scrabble, of course, Password if I can get enough people willing to play the game, and a little iOS app called Seven Little Words (in both English and Spanish). That last one is more maddening than it sounds.

I do okay with the letters in Countdown, though I do a lot better with the numbers.

Forgot all about word based game shows, I got to thinking about like side games and apps. Love Only Connect and if you want a real challenge, face me in Countdown. I can be beat, but it's no easy task; happens once in a blue moon. I'm decent at the Conundrum, usually get those in 5-8 seconds on average, math is a huge strong point, and my main letters game is usually on the stronger side too (usually at least a 6, typically 7, on any given word).

Scrabble, Countdown, Only Connect, the New York Times crosswords. Basically, any word game or cerebral game.

Because of the relative few Americans who play, very technically, I am considered one of the top 10 (maybe even top 5, and at a time I was #2) or so American players of Countdown, according to the major countdown website, where a lot of the top Countdowners in the UK and the world play.

I love "Lingo". I find that I'm a genius when it comes to this game. I like Woolery's version of the game show---Engvall's version sucked---in a horrible kinda way.
I downloaded a "Lingo" game to my computer years ago and I play it often, it allows you to edit the words used in gameplay and everything. It's awesome and I find it actually helps with solving some 'WOF' puzzles.
I also love to play Scrabble but I can never find anyone to play it with me.

I also love to play Scrabble but I can never find anyone to play it with me. I know it's not quite the same, but Words With Friends is a good substitute and there are a lot of willing online opponents!

Anybody play What's the Phrase? Recently rediscovered the game after several years and I'm having fun playing against random opponents.

Holy flashback! Yes Eugene! I just re-downloaded it on my phone! It's just like Wheel (sort of). You (and anyone else that plays aforementioned games and wants to play with me!) can add me on facebook (link in profile).
