Credit to you Dan for admitting your mistakes in R3. The producers are looking for panic decisions like "oh U is the least common vowel, I'll go with the other remaining vowel instead" (I have actually coined this situation "U-voiding") and it's a shame it happened, and is why you should take the guaranteed vowel if you know words in the puzzle, etc. as you already covered. You were right to worry about your spin pattern also, so while I dislike mass buying early as it can lead to U-voiding, you did have a good reason to do it in that situation. You still won more than what many who make it get, so there's plenty of solace in that. I told myself that if I had the chance to use a wild card on $3500 or $5000 going in, I would do so, because I was confident I could solve the bonus round without an extra consonant, and it seems like just about everyone who holds on to to the WC loses it to bankruptcy lately. Besides that, actually getting help with the 4th consonant is pretty rare. I always say even on $2500 it's worth using, even if it's only $2500 more on a single letter. If you can guarantee $2500+ that's more valuable than slightly better odds in a BR you might not even make.

I knew "GIANT SAND DUNES AND." There were obvious S's to be had, and the U in DUNES was right there in front of me. Alas, my heart was pounding, and I was so focused on trying to figure out the last two words, with so few letters turned, with only seconds to decide what to do, that my mind jumped right past the words I had already figured out. In those split seconds I figured there was a good chance that there would be at least one O in one of those two long words at the end of the puzzle. You can tell in my face, as I was saying "O," I wasn't sure about the O. Had I just gone with the U in DUNES first, I would have not only gotten more help on the first half of the puzzle, but I would have also been alerted that there were no more vowels. Looking back, if assuming your next spin landed in a safe place, would you have been able to solve the puzzle after your next letter call (presumably the 'S')? I think given the puzzle then, it would have been fairly difficult still to come up with CRAGGY CLIFFS without at least the 'C'. So I don't believe you should put yourself down for making that 'O' call. You were no doubt in a really big pickle situation at that point (one of the unluckiest situations possible) but it's better to lose a turn with the money then lose it all on Bankrupt. And really, if it weren't for that Express landing, there was a moderate chance the turn would have come back to you. It's unfortunate it didn't work out that time but you did great overall anyway in the end and that's what counts the most.

It's unfortunate it didn't work out that time but you did great overall anyway in the end and that's what counts the most. Absolutely. If I had spun, avoided lose a turn and bankrupt, and called the S, there was still a ton of work to do. I (obviously) didn't have the slightest idea what the last two words were, so it would have taken quite a few more spins without a lose a turn or bankrupt to have a chance of getting the puzzle. That said, you never want to make the mistakes within your control. Anyway, I walked away with a great cash total and a lifetime of memories, so I'm not down in the dumps by any means!

I fell victim to U-voiding in Round 3 of my game, but thankfully, I was on the Free Play when I did it.

Hi all! I just happened upon this page while I was looking for more info on my episode and I'm so glad because I got to read everyone's kind comments - especially Dan's. Dan, it was such a pleasure meeting you and playing the game with you, and I'm so happy we all did so well. Dan really summed it all up perfectly. I have to say that I had honestly never heard the word "craggy" before, and looked it up immediately upon leaving the studio (rough and uneven, and funny enough it is also an adjective to describe a ruggedly handsome man's face??). And painful doesn't even really begin to describe the feeling of getting the bonus round answer just after the buzzer... I was so stuck on "human" that it was hard to think of anything else. I try not to dwell on that and remember that I still did really well. Also, something I couldn't share when we filmed because it was too early - I am pregnant and we are expecting a little girl in October, so it really all couldn't have happened at a better time Thanks again all, so glad I found this page!

Hi, Emily. Congratulations on your future daughter! I can't fault you at all for that miss in the Bonus Round, because HUMAN did fit in terms of number of letters and it didn't conflict with the used letters. Now, if you had been stuck on something like "MAN" or "TITAN", that'd be a different story... As fro CRAGGY... that's Trip Puzzle writing for you. Adjectives, adjectives, adjectives.

U-voiding! I am going to use that one as it killed my BR hopes and dreams!

I think the last time we had two boardies from the same episode was on February 27, 2014 (Jeremy and Melody). That's how rare it is.

I think WooWho is going to need to hire someone with the last of that $41K. I don't know if he'll keep up.
