Sure wish Jessica won a bit more given her dad won big on Wheel. It's quite fitting that your opponents solved the other 2 Toss-Ups given their backstories, Shannon. You, on the other hand, made quite the impressive solves! I figured you'd solve R3 fast, given it's a Prize Puzzle. I wish Jessica had won more too. I felt so bad for her. I knew there was a lot of pressure on her. I hadn't thought about the toss-up solves! That makes so much sense. Especially when I add that my husband and I met because of football, and I played American football when I lived in England. Football is kind of our thing. So very, very fitting indeed! Thank you for the kind words! I had my sights set on the prize puzzle from the time I found out I would be on Wheel. I was beyond thrilled that it happened. To top it off, it's our 10th wedding anniversary next month. What a trip to celebrate!!

I found the word "kayaker" on Merriam Webster and Oxford English Dictionary online, and I'm kinda bitter about it. I googled it too. I think I'll always be a tad bitter about it. Would have been life-changing for us. But I guess it wasn't meant to be. Thanks for standing in solidarity!!

Hi! It’s Shannon from tonight’s show. I’ve been really anxious to hear your thoughts on the show. I appreciate the kind words. I thought I did the best I could and played a good game, and I’m glad you superstars of WOF saw that. I don’t think I’ll ever stop kicking myself over “kayak”. I even saw the OCEAN KAYAKING episode! Argh! But it’s all good in the end. Would have been nice though. My husband was laid off in December so it definitely would have been a game changer for us. All in all, I’m happy. We get to go to Antigua for our 10th anniversary. I don’t think we will be kayaking when we’re there. Stupid kayak. Hey Shannon! First off I want to say that I thought you did exceptionally well on the show and we have a couple of things in common 1. You're going to Antigua for your 10th Anniversary. I'm taking my Wife to Hawaii for our 15th Anniversary (Thank you Prize Puzzle LOL) 2. You're DEFINITELY going to kick yourself over "kayak" for a while. As a person who's got an AMAZING Chef for a wife, it still irks me to this day that I couldn't snag "Butcher Paper" in the bonus round. But what's MOST important is you're happy, you made it all the way to the end and you will always have these memories to cherish and look back on Congrats again!!! John

I still really enjoy the show and watching it every day, but there have been things that are making it a little tough to watch. I just want to see the show do well and it could use some help. My thoughts exactly. In fact, I’m still aspiring to be a contestant and planning my own home games. Keep working at it, watch as much as you can, and when you're able to throw in your audition video!!!!!!!! Never know what could happen John

I'm not surprised you were here right away, Mario. Contestants playing the BR poorly is not new (not the case today of course). But this BR was a really good example of what has gone wrong in Season 35 - basically everything but the overuse of bleh adjectives, which surprisingly was not present tonight at all. But still: -Reuse really hard words just months apart -There is a key vowel that could give the player a shot still, but it goes uncalled. The player is then left with zero chance to win because no one ever calls the consonants in the hard word. -Even if the key vowel is called, some players still fail as the word is really tough (_A_A_ER - MANAGER anyone? Kev suggested this as a common contestant answer. Although KAYAKING back in the day was won...) (-In particular PHGO has been a recommended set of letters lately from here (sub P for B at occasions). A lot of puzzles this season have featured A over O, and I think this is an adjustment by the writing staff who is keeping their pulse on the fandom a bit more than we'd like.) -The big prize manages to have a very lengthy 0-fer on the season due to terrible luck. Now there's a prime example of the reuse as a form of KAYAK has caused 1.1 million in lost winnings. In particular it really has to be said - the category mix of the BR has naturally been much better with the choices. But there is no reason at all the writing should have suffered like this. I hear DPG playoffs is going to have choices and they have no shortage of good puzzles to use. Instead Wheel is content or so limited in their writing they're reusing the same tricks just because THING is barely the category now. I think this is a natural devolution that's been coming for a bit, as there have been more repeats within a year or two elsewhere after they were pretty good at not repeating at all within 3-4 years. But it's still really inexcusable and is an insult to everyday watchers. It's become more of "spot the trap word" such as KAYAK, BAKE, the occasional QUIZ, AVID, etc etc. which is more of a "memorize the trap words" than actually playing Hangman. This was always present but it's blatantly terrible this season and that's why we're mad. =============== On a lighter note, it was nice to have a surprise non-6th episode. I didn't expect a 6th city at all from this. On the downside, more mood whiplash occurred as we cut directly to the Denver closing clip on the heels of a terrible loss. They will usually give hard words depending on what they've picked, which is influenced by where they stop on the bonus wheel, which would also determine puzzle size and length. The failure to call key vowels that would be relevant to the puzzle and with it the category selected by the player, the most common call usually is CDMA. and even that is limited by how many of that can show up. CDMI is next most common, and yet again a selected category would need to contain one or more instances of a certain 3 and a vowel, or that and the extra consonant if the wild card wedge is held It was a good idea to give them 1 of 3 categories to choose as their round, it should be implemented better. like lets say one day we could give a player as choices Headline, Title, and Slogan as an example, player picks slogan over headline or title as he or she may not know the headline selected or title selected when the bonus wheel stops moving depending on how much of RSTLNE they spot the player, and also if it contains what the player picks as letters. Your celebrating your 35th anniversary, you have no excuse to limit yourselves as to what you can do writing wise. I would insert past puzzles and integrate them with the current category matrix within reason. It has no shortage of good puzzles as a lot have been played for these past 35 years, but the production is content with what works, and its proven to be a big problem. If its that much of a problem, i would adjust up the shot clock from 10 seconds to normal gameshow standards like 30 or 60 seconds which would give time to solve and would produce more winners and a fair share of losers also and would give it competitive balance. Spot and memorize trapping words is inexcusable whether you are celebrating an anniversary or not, it even insults me as a wheel watcher It's terrible they are playing spot and memorize trap words, very disgusting behavior by the current production

The bonus puzzle is not influenced on where the Bonus Wheel stops. It is determined well beforehand. So like before season 35 where a puzzle and category were predetermined by Friedman and the show, it’s determined in advance of the tape date regardless of the fact it’s choose your own category if I’m correct here?

Yes. Presumably, all three possible puzzles are prepared in advance, because Vanna needs to know exactly where to stand at the board. There is actually evidence they reuse the unselected bonus puzzles as Round 4+ puzzles in later episodes.

Yes. Presumably, all three possible puzzles are prepared in advance, because Vanna needs to know exactly where to stand at the board. There is actually evidence they reuse the unselected bonus puzzles as Round 4+ puzzles in later episodes. Let's say the days choices were Thing, Living Thing, and Occupation that were prepared in advance. Player selects Living Thing which discards Thing and Occupation, Vanna would need to be in the Living Thing position, gesture for puzzle to show up and so on. Thing and Occupation get reused for round 4+ later on as you've said on a future taping as you have said. Than Friedman/Sony/the production would pick 3 in advance of that tape day, lets say it was Proper Name/Landmark/Show Biz. Player picks Landmark, Vanna assumes that category strip position when she stands at the board, i hope i have the right idea.

Pardon the bump, but based on this rerun week's promo and a bit of research on the Bonus Puzzle Compendium, I've found the episode Jessica's dad was on... May 31, 2005.
