So far, the only other bonus puzzle I've found where E was the only vowel was GEM in 1993. Given the tendency toward shorter puzzles in most of the 90s, I would say there's a good chance it's not the only other example.

The celebration must have been edited. A picture in the latest Wheel Watchers Club mailer shows the couple kissing, which they do not do in the show as aired. They might have reshot the whole thing, which would explain the fairly subdued reaction from them and the audience.  |

All I gotta say about this episode is that IT'S ABOUT TIME!The Mandells sure scared me in R1, but thank goodness Aaron solved it for all that cardboard (particularly that WC). I had a gut feeling it was DROIDS, but that word stumped me, as did SILK in R2 and the whole R4. Nice to see the Plourdes dominate the Prize Puzzles (and very nice to see a rapper), and Judd had some impressive Toss-Up solves. I got the first word of the BR with RSTLNE. Good thing the Mandells called the Y and H for $100K! 🎉 🎊 "Just for mentioning [Pat's] nickname in high school."  Wait...there's only vowel in the BR? My rating: 10!

They might have reshot the whole thing, which would explain the fairly subdued reaction from them and the audience. If so...why? Because they kissed? Because someone felt like they needed two takes of a $100,000 celebration that (based on this photo) might have already been subdued? I don't think the edit should've happened (the show's aired this sort of thing before), but if it was a full-blown reshoot...eesh. |

Knowing JERKY after RSTLNE is amazing, and good reasoning for calling Y. Aaron implied there was no reshoot, but the confetti was a bit delayed so they snipped some stuff out. ...So basically, someone in a position of power thought a slight delay in the confetti was just plain unacceptable and unfit for broadcast? *sigh* I mean, this isn't unprecedented, but still... |
