And here’s my penultimate recap for Season 13! As you’ll soon see, while this specific episode hasn’t been recapped, its follow-up has, which was actually very helpful in me identifying when this episode aired.
Here are today’s contestants:
Diane Sinclair is from West Covina, California. She is the head of a major southern California family, has been married for 16 years and has two sons who are 11 and 13. In her free time, she likes water skiing, gardening and playing Wheel of Fortune.
Mike Dion is from Malden, Massachusetts. He’s a divorced father of two who has his mother in the audience with him. He works for a major supermarket chain in the northeast, where he’s responsible for making the pizzas. Mike says he’s only dropped a pizza twice in his life.
Elizabeth Onen is from Lemon Grove, California, and is our returning champion. She won $4,650 on yesterday’s show. She’s engaged, but she and her fiancée are waiting until she graduates from college before they actually get married.
Pat says $1,000 is the top dollar value for the first round, but does not remind the contestants that they’re playing for cash.

But before the round can begin, Pat needs to give the wheel its final spin. Vowels will be worth nothing and consonants are worth…a lot of money, as Pat has hit $5,000. With two leaders separated by just $150, and a third player not scoring, this can and will make the difference.

Just seconds into the speedup round, Mike calls out BORN FREE, and with that $5,000 win, he has retaken the lead. Pat says he thinks the motion of the pizzas Mike prepares must have given him some sharp mental acuity.

Pat tells Vanna to turn all letters, but she’s only allowed to turn R, S, T, L, N and E.

It takes Mike a quick second before he calls out TROPHY, which is what he should get for his puzzle-solving skills. And Mike is a very happy man after Pat opens the envelope and reveals he’s won $25,000 in cash! Mike’s mother runs out to help her son celebrate the fact that he is now $36,300 richer than he was when he walked into the studio.
Additional Notes:
- Elizabeth has something small resting on her podium, but the poor video quality makes it hard to tell what it is. It always seemed to me like it was a bracelet of some sort. It’s hard to describe unless you’ve seen the episode, but nobody ever mentions it. It appears to be gray with a blue lining on it.
I’ve only got one more episode from Season 13 to recap before I’m done and can move on to Season 17! And I think the members of this forum are going to be really excited about the next episode I recap.
