Karl says DELICIOUS DOWNTOWN DELI, which is obviously wrong unless you somehow spell "delicious" with a T.
Sandy gets the Wheel again, but the Bankrupt next to $650 stops her short. Laura gets the ½ Car next to the orange $300 with W, then just passes the other one to call L on $350. She buys O and A, but neither is in the puzzle.
Karl may have a break now. He calls G on $650…

Sandy gets the ½ Car next to the pink $900 with H, then calls R on $900. She buys E, then stops on the Mystery Wedge next to Lose a Turn — after calling N, she declines to flip it. However, she blurts out T before spinning again; Pat asks Harry if she is still held to that call after she hits $550… and of course, T is a repeat, so she loses her turn.
Laura says L on $650, then calls a bad M on $&00. Karl tries F on $600, picks off the last vowel (U) on Free Play, then gets the Spain trip with Y.
A / F L Y / O N T H E / _ A L L S T R E E T _ O U R N A L
For $1,100 and the trip, he solves A FLY ON THE WALL STREET JOURNAL.

I feel like I should've gotten that, but I just couldn't think of any adjectives for COMPLEXION. I kept thinking the top word was going to be a compound word with the syllable break falling on the T, and the -FUL suffix never came to me either.

Toss-Ups: Theming, which was to be expected, but decent puzzles anyway.
R1: Sandy doesn't have very much power at all, maybe half a rotation at best, and her turn doesn't last long either due to a dud. Karl tries to solve a little too early and misses the first word - even though he ends up still solving for $4,400 it would've been a better chance at the trip had he spun rather than mis-solved the first time.
R2: We're really rolling out the Before & Afters this week... and we're rolling out the cash on a top dollar triple! And then we're rolling it back in, as a lot of money gets Bankrupted not long after being awarded. Sandy gets a chance after Karl's Lose a Turn... but repeats a letter before even spinning... failure. Karl gets control back, and this time he spins for the trip and will be going to Spain!
R3: Sandy's weak power runs her into trouble yet again - nothing against her, but with the penalty wedges spread around the wheel, a soft spin like that can get you into trouble more often than not by just hopping from one danger spot to the next. Karl snaps up this one after a late dud, picking up his second trip, this time to Hawaii!
R4: Karl gains $3,000 from the toss-up and Pat proceeds to spin half of that to open R4. Sandy shows a bit of skill in the last round, getting $6,000 to make her score more respectable. No such luck for Laura, who leaves with just $1,000 in toss-up money.
Bonus: Karl has a lot of support in the audience, but not enough on the board. Nobody was getting that one with a fair bit of help from vowels, and so the $50,000 is secure in Harry's pocket.
Overall: Ugh... penalties, failure, duds, and a bad BR. I'm giving it a 4/10, but this could've gone lower with just a little more in the negative column.

Sandy's T repeat moment during the MR was controversial, IMO. Karl made a careless mistake by saying a solution that didn't have enough letters to fit the JR puzzle, but luckily got control back & won the trip.
I knew he was in trouble the moment I figured out the first word of the bonus puzzle w/ RSTLNE; he probably still would've lost even if he had called the hot vowel of O because he couldn't even solve the second word.

So, so ugly. (And maybe more importantly, no relief at all in the BR.)

In the Prize Puzzle round, yet another contestant cracks under pressure and calls a dud letter. In R2, it was an interesting situation I have never seen before. Horrid BR, even though I figured out the bottom word, COMPLEXION.

R1: I also thought the first word was DELICIOUS early on, but I quickly figured out that wasn't it. Lucky break for Karl, too, after he missolved the puzzle the first time.
R2: Whoa, nice job by Laura on collecting over 10 grand in one spin! And then she lost it all to the Bankrupt; boo. I got confused over Sandy's T call. But congratulations to Karl on winning that trip to Spain!
R3: Aww, Laura could've brought her score to 5 figures, possibly could've even taken the lead with this round. She was doing so well until she called that M. I'm guessing she really had no idea what the answer was or she got really nervous.
R4: Nice solve by Sandy! I knew early on that the first word was MANHATTAN, but I was lost with the rest of the puzzle.
BR: This was tough. I was able to get COMPLEXION, but that was like, 1 or 2 seconds before the buzzer. Would've been nice if Karl could add the $50K to his total, but on the bright side, he does have over 22 grand, including 2 trips!
An okay-ish episode overall. Would've been better without all the mishaps that occurred. I'll give this episode a 5/10.

Well, that was an interesting thing in R2. And Laura had many chances to get more than $1,000, but unfortunately couldn't figure out the puzzles before dud M's stopped her runs. That was a pretty tough BR. I did get YOUTHFUL right from RSTLNE (the BR puzzle writers sure like using words relating to their younger days; they must be going through a midlife crisis ), so once Karl filled in some consonants for the bottom word, I got that easily enough. Still, a tough puzzle.

Did anyone else notice that when Karl solved the Wall Street puzzle he did so incorrectly? He clearly said OF instead of ON. I replayed it twice to make sure. I was pretty shocked they let it slide.

It was kind of all right episode tonight. I thought DELICIOUS answer was better than DELIGHTFUL one, although I don’t know how to spell delicious, which is why I didn’t pay much attention on the T. And Sandy could’ve practice lot more on the wheel spinning, I could even see her hand letting go on the overview shot. If she was on the Price is Right, expect some lot of boos on SCSD. But hey, at least she not worse than Alex Trebek’s final spin on April Fools episode.

The whole point of this episode seems to have been to plug Spider-Man: Turn Off The Dark. ...I hate fluffy Same Letter puzzles. -_- Round 2 could've been a Living Thing, in the same vein that SEVEN SWANS A-SWIMMIN(G) are Living Things. Also, I'm pretty sure Friedman upheld the repeated T call in an attempt to keep the winning down, as it seems to fit his style of producing/judging. (The fact he accepted a mis-solve as correct is another problem -- slowing down the audio clearly shows he said OF -- but hey...) Round 3 was fail, but not just because [LoudBoomyVoiceGuy]IT CAME FROM THE VACATION BROCHURE[/LoudandBoomy] -- how many _LA_E words with M in them could fit with the rest of that puzzle? FLAME? BLAME? All this adds up to a very lackluster show that, while giving away slightly more than last night, actually got less from Harry's wallet -- a mere $17,500 cash was pilfered tonight, $650 less than last night's take. The main reason is the fact that the Wheel Trip was won, but also a difficult Bonus Round and some headdesk-worthy contestants. Your optimal Bonus Round strategies for May 1, 2013:* Modern (2013): With seven distinct consonants and three distinct vowels after RSTLNE, there's several good options here but no definitively-helpful set of four-and-a-vowel -- for the sake of an entry, I'll go with YHMO(X), but that's iffy at best * Classic (N/A): No such puzzles this week, ergo nothing here In the battle of CDMA versus BGHO (modern only), tonight's winner is BGHO with four letters versus CDMA's two and the "take a third option" FGHI's three.

MARIOGS' WHEEL DEAL: PART IIISo Jim tells us to get ready for the third and final show, and then a familiar voice calls Jim's name. It's Vanna! She managed to get a handheld microphone and then takes the warmups from there. She shares an interesting piece of information that not even I knew. The dressing rooms are far from the stage, so when Vanna has to go down there, she swaps her heels for a pair of sneakers to save her feet, then puts the heels back on when she comes back. She then starts a Q&A with the audience. Some questions included "Can I get a kiss?" from an elderly man, and "Can I go on stage and touch a letter?", to which Vanna got all sassy and said only she could touch the letters, jokingly of course. "But you can scream 'Wheel of Fortune' into my microphone", said Jim, and the young woman did. Then she is asked to sign Pat's 7-Eleven cup. "Just this once I'll sign your cup", she said. That lucky little... Near the end of her Q&A, I hear my name called. Lee (again, I think that's his name) comes up the aisle and asks us to come down. Three seats opened up in the VIP section in the second row! (No, I didn't get brought down solely because of my sign. It's a pretty long story...) We were now seated near the Wheel. We could see the board just as great as the contestants without looking at the monitors, plus a good view of the offscreen scoreboard and used letter board. One woman tells me "I love you for making this sign." There was another very nice lady next to me who I talked to at various points. We also have John Lauderdale right in front of our section, and he's doing a lot. For one, he controls the overhead Wheel camera, plus he holds up signs to notify Pat of something. There's "REMOVE CARD" for when a player loses cardboard to Bankrupt, "WILD CARD" when a good opportunity to use that comes up, "TIME'S UP" for when the Final Spin bells go off, and "SPIN OR SOLVE" for NMV. I think there may have been another sign, but I don't remember. I know that Alex the contestant coordinator holds up a sign reading 1, 2, or 3 when that round begins. I was rooting for Sandy the most because I'm from Brooklyn and she reminded me of my late grandmother. Here's something interesting she said about herself that was cut for time: she's a frequent contest winner. Over the past 20 years, she's won 10 major trips and a big-screen TV! In R1, I was glad to see Karl get a second chance even though he should have known better that there's no T in DELICIOUS. During that break, Pat came up into the audience and chose an adorable young girl names Susie to meet Vanna on stage, then got a WOF goodie bag afterwards. As for R2, some of you know that at least in Culver City, audience members are encouraged to shout "Go for it!" on Mystery gambles regardless of what's on the line. Well, since I think it was a little too late in the round to flip it, and putting the 1/2 Car at risk, I shout "TAKE THE MONEY!", which you can just barely hear in the broadcast. And no, I was not kicked out for saying something other than "go for it". I didn't even get any weird looks from staff, though some people in our row laughed. BTW, when people call a letter on a Mystery Wedge, the $1,000 per letter IS added to their score on the offscreen scoreboard before the gamble, just not on the main scoreboards. When Sandy blurted out T, she actually went "OK, um....'T'", not just calling it outright like in the broadcast. I wondered how they would handle that. Last time that happened, they let the player choose another letter if they wanted to, but other times, they were held on the one they called. The lady said "Yep, that was the right call." I felt so bad for Sandy, though. Later, when Karl called the obvious U on Free Play, I whisper, "Why call a vowel if you know it?" The woman next to me didn't know you could use Free Play for consonants, not just free vowels. Fortunately, it worked out well for him, and I shout "All right!" when he hits the Spain wedge, but that was drowned out. And I did hear OF when watching on TV, but not in the studio since we had that rush of excitement, I guess... During the next break, Phillip Phillips' "Home" plays and the entire audience claps to the beat, including Vanna. Afterwards, Vanna tells Pat to ask the audience who got kicked off American Idol the night before because she wanted to know. Note that Listen closely right as Sandy leans down to spin at the beginning of R3. You can very faintly hear me shout "GO, SANDY!" When Laura kept spinning, some people around me would gasp, and even moreso at the M call. Everything's been in the bag for Karl tonight. "The military people always win", the lady says. In the BR, I believe I had COMPLEXION but not YOUTHFUL. They really haven't been nice in the BR's after Monday...And then it's all over for most of the audience and my friends...but not me. I went back for more!

When Sandy blurted out T, she actually went "OK, um....'T'", not just calling it outright like in the broadcast. Oh, really? They really shouldn't have "cut out the fat" there, that extra bit definitely shows it was nerves and not stupidity.

R1: Karl was lucky to have gotten that one after that awful first guess of his. DELICIOUS was not gonna fit with a T already up there.
R2: Well, that was a weird moment w/ Sandy and that T call of her. And good for Karl on getting that Spanish getaway.
R3: Sandy's spin were very bad and I knew she would be toasted by that BANKRUPT. Also, terrible M call by Laura.
Bonus Round: This was not gonna be solved (I got w/ the RSTLNE, because I remember YOUTHFUL being used before in S27 and the puzzle was YOUTHFUL OUTLOOK), but Karl shouldn't have lost like that. His choices should have led him to COMPLEXION.
MY EP. RATING: 6 out of 10
