Not a bad little show, but a couple quirky bits...
Crystal seemed to be snakebitten throughout most of the show, hit by a bad E in the first round and losing the Prize Puzzle trip by way of getting tongue-tied at the wrong time. Thanks to the quick solves by the men, she was able to add a little money in R5 - and while it seems that $500 is too small an amount to use the Wild Card on, it was the last chance she realistically had to use it, sitting in last place in a runaway game.
(That does raise a question for the historians/wiki-minders among us... is this the lowest number a Wild Card has been used on? I think it might be.)
Wes had an extreme case of flip-floppy luck himself, as his first action of the show is a Bankrupt spin, but his second chance landed him on the $5,000 for a pretty pair! $16,400 is a winning score some nights and a close second most others, but on a night like tonight it's not even half of the winner's score.
Speaking of the winner... Andrew ran up the lead early and made sure that the outcome was never in doubt. Winning the opening toss-up and each of the first three rounds made his score insurmountable, despite quick solves allowing us to play SIX rounds, with four spins in that sixth round even! His letter picks in the BR were just good enough to win, and it seemed the writers were easing up a bit - CDMA was one of the more generous combos tonight.
Overall, a $55,000+ haul in the maingame and a solid bonus win, plus the extremely rare sixth round, made this a good one to watch. If you missed it, you picked a bad day to do so.

This ep. was so much fun! I wish Crystal had won more than she did (with or without her iffy decision to use her WC late in R5). What a good comeback by Wes in R4! And Andrew definitely knew how to spin that wheel in the MR & got a very key run of letters at the end of his bonus puzzle!
Score: 8

Best episode in a looooooong time. If R5 was solved dumbly early (no reason not to go all out in garbage time, which that WC use smartly showed) or R6 was as easy as R5, we really could have had an R7... R5 was so short & weird though, they seemed unprepared for even R5+ today. We avoided some common duds today and puzzles were gotten quickly, so I'm not totally surprised.
Between two spin patterns BOTH working out in R2 and R4, that WC use, R6 with some pretty good puzzles (even the PP was... good. WHAT), my good old friend the easy BR, and a weird Pat/Vanna talk, we really had it all tonight.

Pretty impressive. And we could have easily had a Round 7 here (if only we weren't slowed down by Rounds 3 and 5).
I won't exactly call the bonus puzzle easy, but it was definitely set up for CDMA. This time you need both the M and A, or you're toast.

I forgot about that missolve... she tried to blame it on nerves despite being a Wheel Watcher, and I guess I understand, but... ick, pretty avoidable

Well, there was some undeniably good news here: Six rounds and with regular gameplay in R6, only one Bankrupt which didn't claim anything, and a good BR win despite being for the minimum yet again. However, we still are unable to accomplish one simple thing: decent audience reactions on three or more $3500 hits in a row. This is becoming a pathetic joke. The only reaction was a couple of gasps after the third one. WHY doesn't the audience care that this guy is hitting the big money every time which CAUSES him to rack up the big money?! The last time I recall a triple $3500 spinner getting good reactions was Season 29. This is such a rare event that shouldn't ever be overlooked! I would give anything to be at a taping for an event like that (though maybe not in LA if I was the only one cheering, but hey, I was so ecstatic just being able to see a null cycle in person )! Don't these people know that?! And yet there was a decent reaction to Wes hitting $5,000 once, though probably just from his supporters. (Similarly, one episode in S27 had a woman hit $3500 FOUR times in a row with absolutely no reaction to ANY hit, but the very next episode with the same audience [unless they switched shows for some reason] cheered for a single $3500 hit with no kind of special situation [no big bank, no consecutive hits, no carrying prizes, etc.]) Phew...OK, I'm done ranting. I think this is the most Vanna has ever spoken in a closing segment. She should tell her random stories more often, at least when they're interesting to listen to, not stories about biting into an M&M and discovering it's the new pretzel kind. I liked Vanna's hairstyle this episode. It was like she was reliving her "short hair" phase. When did she start growing her hair long again, anyway? 2001 or so? Well, look at that. More ampersands, both necessary. We're getting just as many in these recent weeks as we used to before S29 or so. I guess my ranting paid off. If that worked...WHEEL. $500 VOWELS. $1500 WEDGE. DO IT.

The six-round gameplay, plenty of top-dollars hits, and the first bonus round win in over the week. That what I call, not really the best, but just a good show tonight. I feel bad for Crystal for not just being the worst player, but just one of the reasons that play in a studio is way different than play at home. She wasted on the Wild Card for non-top dollar amount for one last letter and had a one word slip-up that caused a missolve. The nervous really got the best of her, but at least she got something instead of $1,000 consolation.
And Vanna's story was really funny and embarrassed. I bet she went to the dentist after the mall. XD

Great start to the week! TUs: Nice to see everyone split from these. Pat's Comment to Vanna: Aw Pat... R1: Nicely done there by Andrew. And no, I've never heard that song before. R2: The last time someone landed on $3,500 three times was on 2/12/2013. As for tonight, great round there for Andrew! That round definitely helped him win the game. R3: OUCH at Crystal's missolve...well, I'm glad Andrew won the trip. R4: Looks like Andrew's not the only top-dollar beneficiary tonight! Nice job there by Wes! R5: Despite her WC usage I don't approve of, nice redemption by Crystal. R6: Wow, a rare Round 6 (finally, my wish is granted) AND some extra time before the Final Spin! Andrew, your guess was good, just wasn't gonna fit however. As for Wes...very nice 2nd-place total. And boy, either these puzzles were short or these solves were quick. That's why we got a Round 6. And yes, we could've gotten a Round 7, but I highly doubt that's gonna happen. How short is that puzzle gonna be? BR: CDMA was the way to go here, but nice win by Andrew! Too bad for the crummy $30K amount that I absolutely HATE!!! :headbang:At least he's happy with it. Vanna's Crown Story: Nice Christmas story there! And Vanna had a whole lot to say. This is the best episode of S31 yet, so despite some missteps, I'm giving this a perfect 10 (originally a 9, but this was too good)!

^ Season 23 had a seven-round game with slightly longer puzzles for Rounds 1-3 (the Prize Puzzle was also a daily element starting this season), a surprisingly longer Round 6 of LASTING IMPRESSIONS at 18 letters, and a Round 7 of WET BEHIND THE EARS at 16 letters. It could still happen.
- From the above, anyone remember if Round 3 (I'M SITTIN' ON THE DOCK OF THE BAY) was solved after a single letter call, possibly the T's? -
I'm actually on the hunt for older six-round games that ended without a Speed-Up.

^ It was September 22, 2005. This is the only instance for which all the puzzles are known, and I think I see how it could happen with those rounds and their puzzles. Neither Before & After nor Same Name was used. Rounds 1, 3, 4, and 5 could have been "no-lettered" by some home viewers. - Round 1: FEATURE-LENGTH DOCUMENTARY (Show Biz)
- Round 2: FRESH ASPARAGUS WITH HOLLANDAISE SAUCE (On The Menu)
- Round 3: I'M SITTIN' ON THE DOCK OF THE BAY (Song Lyrics + Prize Puzzle)
- Round 4: THREE-BEDROOM APARTMENT (Place)
- Round 5: HOW SWEET IT IS (Title)
- Round 6: LASTING IMPRESSIONS (Things)
- Round 7: WET BEHIND THE EARS (Phrase)

No. The puzzles are known through archivists who list every puzzle from every episode, with at least one archive (outside of Guint's compendium) dating back to late 2003. The only copy that circulates is held by game show tape trader Ryan Rinkerman, who has many episodes of Wheel between Seasons 21 and 27.

I don't think so. It has to do with recapping that may have been done since the beginning of Season 22; as it's the earliest season to have every episode minus just a few puzzles on a compendium (I think it's by Guint?), that's how I found the seven-round game. It's a very good compendium. I'm aware of only a few minor typos (e.g. DUE TO CIRCUMSTANCES BEYOND MY CONTROL from Season 2, and ROADSIDE FRUIT SALAD from Season 29).

Yep, that would be my compendium. I'm glad you enjoy it! I put a lot of work into it last year. I know of two other instances of a Round 7, but neither have turned up in my findings as of yet. Also, thanks for noticing the errors. I know there's probably a ton lurking in there, so if you see one, just let me know.
