Um...I did figure it was possible to use the Wild Card immediately since it began awarding $500 per letter, but I'm almost sure before this point, the rule was that you're not allowed to use the Wild Card after buying a vowel. All of the modern-day video games grey out the Wild Card option after buying (except for the 2009 PSN game where you HAVE to buy if you want to use the card). Also, I definitely remember a Culver City episode most likely from Season 29 where Pat prompts a female blue contestant to use the card on $3500, but she asks if she can buy a vowel first, and Pat tells her that if she did, she would not be able to use the card, so she used it. I wasn't able to narrow down a date for this, though. Does this ring a bell to anyone else?

I was totally stumped on the first word of R1. Surprised she got it that early, because I just COULD NOT think of anything else with a string that fit those blanks.
There's a Panama City in Panama too, not just Florida? News to me.
BR wasn't too tough, but the E_T pattern is a tricky one since it doesn't show up often.

I almost no-lettered Round 3 (I thought it was HAVE YOUR CAMERA READY). More importantly though:
(After starting the video, press 8 to skip)
Amy wasn't allowed to do it, but Makida was. Did I miss something in between episodes? Did they change the rules?
So, set the 26th's puzzle up for CDMA, but use an impossible puzzle on Christmas. It's also the second year in a row that easier puzzles were used on the 24th and 26th. What went on with the Friedman's life to cause this?

Well, we saw a historic but odd moment late in the PP Rd.- Makida didn't quite understand how the WC worked & used it after buying a vowel. Not surprising she seemed lost for most of this episode.

Amy wasn't allowed to do it, but Makida was. Did I miss something in between episodes? Did they change the rules? That's the episode I was thinking of! I can't believe I was off by three seasons, probably because I didn't remember seeing it through YouTube. (Also...really, S26 audience? Shouting at her to use the Wild Card but not reacting to the $3500 hit? -_-) This is definitely the first time someone used the card after buying.

What in the world was that braindead WC use? $500 is chump change (no multiples), and this BR actually had several of the top 8 consonants (C, D, M, F, B) that could have really helped (and recovered a bit from choosing the one wrong vowel... again...). Terrible. On top of it, it shouldn't have been allowed after buying a vowel.
I kinda found HANDFUL a bit inappropriate for FOOD & DRINK. Obviously the top line was completely a lengthener though.
I wasn't sure right away, but now I'm 100% certain - Diane should have spun out in R4, trying to get the final spin. She had 3 unique consonants left (so 2 spins to trigger it) and was behind by $1749. Her first spin was definitely going to be safe, a second one may have fallen onto LAT... regardless, there's almost no way she doesn't earn $1749 if she gets the final spin. She probably had no consciousness of how the game was going at the time, but it was clearly a time to go and see if you can squeak by 12099 - I think it could have been done. If it wasn't, well, there's a chance you earn $1750 or more in 3 spins, too.
EDIT: The rules haven't changed - they're just incompetent and on weird / borderline cases, Pat has been very lenient (especially on restarting / close pronunciation solves lately) and they're letting it go. I'm almost sure this was against the rules. Think about it - buying vowel(s) can guarantee consonant calls to then immediately use the WC on. That's potentially a big advantage that should be - and pretty sure is - disallowed.

Not such a good after-Christmas episode. Oh, and happy Kwanzaa/Boxing Day! TUs: Good job to Diane getting 2/3. R1: N's, Makida... R2: Diane also left off some multiples, but she got a decent amount. R3: How could Pat let Makida use her WC after she bought a vowel? Why that's a first. But she got a nice PERFECT ROUND nonetheless. Unfortunately... R4-R5: ...that PP would definitely matter for her to win, as the match became tight between her and Diane in R4. Too bad Diane got stopped by Brian's R5 solve, but hey, it was impressive! And we've been getting a lot of extra time lately - a R6 with extra time on Monday, a R5 with extra time on Tuesday that Whitney couldn't cash in on, a R4 with extra time...and now a full R5. What is going on this week? BR: This should've been SHOW BIZ, IMO. I don't know which would work better, CDMA or BCDA. Tough luck for Makida there. My rating: High 5/10 Let's hope tomorrow is a whole lot better.

Another thing...when Makida asked to use the card the first time, Pat replied "You're sitting on $500", so by this logic, does this mean it was technically OK to use it immediately for whatever wedge it was covering even when it awarded $0 ($700 in S24-28, $900 in S29)? I know this is not the case in video games not modeled after the S30 ruleset, and I didn't think so either.
EDIT: Here's video footage of the round. Skip to 1:04 for awkwardness. Unfortunately, it cuts off before the actual WC use, but Pat says afterward, "Now you can use that for a consonant if you want to", and she hands it in and calls K, which Pat notes is worth $500.

It almost seems like Pat was surprised by the attempt to use the WC right away (and the vowel call didn't help matters), so things may have gotten somewhat muddled in the process. There wasn't really a good spot for them to stop and edit something like that, so they may have just had to stick with it.

Yay, another close game determined by who got the guaranteed prize. Makida would've finished last otherwise. Nothing to really say about the end of Round 3 that hasn't already been said, although the Round 4 puzzle should've had an A at the beginning. A total of $20,300 cash was pilfered from Friedman's pocketbook tonight. Unfortunately, since the money was spread around so well (which isn't a bad thing) and due to the presence of the guaranteed prize, the "big winner" only really had $4,950 to show for it. Your optimal Bonus Round strategies for December 26, 2013:* Modern (2013): I can't really see an I'm-sure-you'll-win-with-this combo, since OFFBEAT is an adjective I've seldom seen in use over the past five years (but hey, Harry evidently thinks it makes for great difficulty!) and there's a few too many choices aside from the obvious consonant and vowel -- I'll go with FBMO(C), but only because the first word is so strange. * Classic (1991): Although that player got it with CDMA, I'll go with DCPU since N is already spotted and this helps both words about evenly. In the battle of CDMA versus BGHO (modern only), tonight's winner is...well, I'm not sure. CDMA and the "Super Mario(GS)" BPYO give four letters, but the former mostly helps the second word and the latter does only slightly more for the first word; BGHO and the "CU be trollin' combo" FUCK each give three, while the "take a third option" FGHI and the "Prizes be trollin' combo" DICK each give two. The "Scott be trollin' combo" WKYI just gives one. So, set the 26th's puzzle up for CDMA, but use an impossible puzzle on Christmas. It's also the second year in a row that easier puzzles were used on the 24th and 26th. What went on with the Friedman's life to cause this? Given the cheapening of $5K Every Day and the cash awarded with Bonus Round cars during this season, I'd say Harry's being a scrooge...which doesn't really help matters given how The Price Is Right was during its two-show Christmas "week". So many things, summed up in three words.

What went on with the Friedman's life to cause this? I thought the puzzle was "Have" as well, but I think we've learned some things about the Wild Card. If I'm right, the reason why Amy was not allowed to use the Wild Card right after picking it up was that she did not get the money under it (which was $700 at the time). Now since Season 30, I believe you're allowed to use it after landing on the Prize wedge or a token for another $500 per occurrence. It's also interesting to note that you can spin, call a consonant in the puzzle, then buy a vowel that's also in the puzzle, and finally use the Wild Card for the value you previously landed on. When Sony made the first PS3 version in 2009, that probably explains the Wild Card bug. I think they were trying to adapt that aspect in but were unable to do it, at least within the deadline.

^ We were talking about the use of the Wild Card immediately after buying a vowel. I think Amy would have been allowed to use the Wild Card on the same $700 if she asked, based on the late rule change for Season 25's Big Money Wedge to award only the $1,000 per consonant the second time.

Yeah... that whole sequence with the Wild Card was definitely weird. I know we joke about it being a bankrupt magnet, but contestants shouldn't to be THAT desperate to get rid of it!
