Nighttime Wheel of Fortune
Taped December 20, 1986
Aired February 4, 1987
"Look at this studio, filled with glamorous prizes! Fabulous and exciting merchandise, including Toyota's sensational $19,000 4Runner! It's fun, sun, and more fun, with the Renault convertible! And the entire family will enjoy this big color television! Over $118,000 just waiting to be won on Wheel of Fortune! And now here is your host, Pat Sajak!"
One odd thing to point out: when we see the money graphic on screen, it's hollow, with only the outlines of the text visible. Whether it was a glitch or them trying something new, I have no clue, but I felt it was worth noting.
Tonight's players are...
Dan Harris, from College Station, TX, a graduate student at Texas A&M studying petroleum engineering, is also an amateur standup comic
Judi Moyne, from Grafton, VA, was selected as a contestant from tryouts at the Ritz-Carlton in Washington, DC, is married with three kids and numerous pets
Bonnie Sheehan, from Albuquerque, NM, is an elementary school conselor, has a 6-year-old son
Top dollar for the first round is $1,000, try not to hit Bankrupt because if you do you lose your cash, but not your merchandise because once you buy a prize, it's yours to keep. The first puzzle of the night is a PHRASE.

Dan will start Round 1. His first spin of the round nets him a Free Spin, so he spins again.
Dan's second spin lands on $800. He calls T, and there are two T's, starting him off with $1,600.
Dan spins again, landing on $350. He calls H, and gets one, bringing him up to $1,950.
Dan asks to buy a vowel, an E. There are three E's, taking him down to $1,700.
Dan spins, and he narrowly avoids the Lose A Turn, landing on the $200 just before it. He calls S, but doesn't get one. He declines to use the Free Spin, so the turn passes to Judi.
Judi spins, and lands on $150. She calls M, but there aren't any (and the buzzer seems to last a bit longer than normal, for some reason).
Bonnie spins, and lands on $150. She calls an S, which has already been called. Pat prompts her to watch the Used Letter Board, and we go back to Dan.
Dan spins, and comes up just shy of the $1,000, landing on the $500 right before it. He asks if he may have an N, and receives one of them, bringing his score to $2,200.
Dan asks to buy a vowel, an A. There is one A, taking him down to $1,950.
Dan asks to buy another vowel, an I. Unfortunately, there are no I's, so Dan's score goes to $1,700, and the turn goes to Judi.
Judi spins, and lands on $400. She calls a K, and gets one, putting her on the board with $400.
Judi spins again, and lands on $200. She asks for a C, but can't get one.
Bonnie spins, and lands on $1,000! She calls L, and finds one, giving her $1,000.
Bonnie asks to buy a vowel, an O. There is no O, so her total goes to $750, and control goes to Dan.
Dan asks to buy the last possible vowel, a U. There is one U, taking his total down to $1,450.
T A K E / T H E
- L U N - E
Dan asks to solve the puzzle, and is correct with TAKE THE PLUNGE. He wins the round with $1,450.
With that $1,450, Dan will get to shop in the Outdoor Adventure area. He buys...
for $1,225, the color television we saw at the top of the show. With $225 left, his next purchase is...
for $194, a set of sports goggles. He opts to put his leftover $31 on a Service Merchandise gift certificate.
At the end of Round 1, the scores are...
Dan: $1,450, plus one Free Spin
Judi: $0
Bonnie: $0
For Round 2, the top value is still $1,000, and there's also a prize on the Wheel: a 2-door Jeep Cherokee Chief, valued at $15,800! It is marked "CAR" on the Wheel, and if you land on it, the prize will go in your bank, and if you win the round without hitting Bankrupt, you'll win it. Be careful though, there's a second Bankrupt on the Wheel for this round. The category for this round is PEOPLE.

Judi will start Round 2, and her first spin goes straight to the LOSE A TURN.
Bonnie spins, and also lands on LOSE A TURN!
Dan spins, and breaks the run of bad spins by landing on $550. He calls T, but there are no T's, so we go back around the horn to Judi.
Judi spins, and lands on $900. She calls S, and finds two S's, giving her $1,800.
Judi spins again, and lands on $900 a second time. She calls N, and there are two of them, bringing her up to $3,600.
Judi spins again, and lands on $550. She calls D, and gets two, bringing her up to $4,700.
Judi asks to buy a vowel, an A. There are three A's, taking her down to $4,450.
Judi spins, landing on $200. She calls L, and gets an L, bringing her to $4,650.

Out of nowhere, Judi says "ROY ROGERS AND DALE EVANS", winning the round with $4,650.
With $4,650 to her credit, Judi will spend it in the Cook's Corner. She buys...
...well, she tries to buy the TV, but Pat reminds her it's already gone. Let's try this again...
for $1,299, a refrigerator. With $3,351 to go, she chooses to buy...
for $570, a microwave package. She has $2,781 remaining, and her next purchase is...
for $450, wallpaper. $2,331 still in the till. Judi buys...
for $350, prime beef. She still has $1,981 to spend, and she does so by buying...
for $425, cutlery, leaving her with $1,556. Next up, we have...
for $995, a home security system. She has $561 left. Judi opts to buy...
for $360, an ice cream maker. Her remaining total is $201. She buys...
for $175, a pasta maker. She chooses to put her leftover $26 on a gift certificate.
At the end of Round 2, the totals are...
Dan: $1,450, plus one Free Spin
Judi: $4,650
Bonnie: $0
For Round 3, there is a $5,000 space on the Wheel (and as we get the standard zoom-in of it, we also get an on-screen reminder that we're watching on KCEN-TV in Temple, TX. Lovely.). The category for this round is PHRASE.
- / - - - - - / - - -

There is an apostrophe, so we have Vanna reveal it first...
- / - - - ' - / - - -
- - - - - - - / - - - -
...and then we have Bonnie start the round by spinning the Wheel. Her first spin lands on $500, and she calls a T. There are four T's, giving her $2,000.
Bonnie spins again, and she winds up hitting BANKRUPT.
Dan spins, and lands on $200. He asks for an N, and gets two of them, giving him $400.
Dan asks to buy a vowel, an O. There is one O, taking him down to $150 and forcing him to spin again.
Dan spins, and lands on $500. He calls for an R, and receives one R, bringing him up to $650.
Dan spins again, and lands on $5,000! He asks for an H, and finds one, bringing his total to $5,650.
Dan asks to buy a vowel, an E. There are three E's, taking him down to $5,400.
- / - - N ' T / E - T
- N O T H E R / - - T E
Dan asks to solve the puzzle, but is WRONG with "I WON'T EAT ANOTHER BITE". Pat asks Dan if he would like to use his Free Spin, and he does so.
Dan once again asks to solve, and this time he gets it right with "I CAN'T EAT ANOTHER BITE", winning Round 3 with $5,400.
Dan will take his $5,400 and go to the Den to shop. He buys...
for $798, an encyclopedia. He has $4,602 remaining, and he now chooses to buy...
for $1,799, a sofa unit. With $2,803 left to go, his next purchase is...
for $600, a chinese rug. $2,203 still available, and he buys...
for $599, a wood-burning stove. He has $1,604 left, and he will now buy...
for $475, a brass sculpture. Dan's total is now $1,129, and his next choice is...
for $410, a silver tea and coffee set. He has $719 still at his disposal, and now he buys...
for $400, drapery. $319 left to go. Next up is...
for $189, ceramic cheetahs. His remaining total is $130, and Pat immediately places it on a gift certificate, and Jack once again has a marathon announcing session.
The scores at the conclusion of Round 3 (and thus, the conclusion of the game) are...
Dan: $6,850 (winner)
Judi: $4,650
Bonnie: Lovely Parting Gifts
In the Bonus Round, Dan chooses to play for the Toyota 4Runner, a wonderful prize valued at $19,945. (In an unusual move, even though the vehicle is parked in front of the puzzleboard as per usual, the show's logo is still projected onto the floor, and as a result is partially obscured by the vehicle.) Tonight's bonus puzzle is a THING.
- - - - - - - - -
Dan must now choose five consonants and one vowel. He picks R, S, T, L, N, and E. After Vanna is done turning trilons, this is what we see...
S - - L - T - R E
Dan initially guesses SOLITAIRE, but that's not right. He is unable to come up with anything else, so he will not be driving off in the Toyota. The correct solution was SCULPTURE. Dan will leave with $6,850 in prizes for the evening.
Thank you for reading, hope to have more recaps to share here soon.
