As foreshadowed earlier, today's tapings use the San Francisco set. http://instagr.am/p/Bm1PEdHnUi0 The second of these photos shows what may be a graphical change... Notice the "H" in a circle along the category strip when H appears to be called on that turn. It looks like they might be visualizing letter calls now.

If that's what they're going to do, then it seems interesting.

If so, that'd definitely help viewers who are deaf or hard of hearing, though in that case I think that kind of thing should've been added much earlier.

^ Like at the time where Wheel added a NO MORE VOWELS banner in season 22?

To be fair, they've already had that feature for decades now.
It's called closed captioning.

Sneak peek of the feature in action. Simple enough. The logo bug on the category strip is now gone. It is also no longer present during the contestant interviews.
(Note: Minor spoilers for tonight)
I wonder if they will edit this into Season 35 Saturday reruns. I can see them doing it, but I don't think they will because they would have to go back and erase the logo bug so that the letter circles don't overlap it.

I'm pretty sure that puzzle is (spoiler-tagged since it hasn't aired yet) DIDN'T YOU LEARN THIS LAST YEAR? (Phrase) ...which, if so, gave me two results on Google. Both are related to teachers, but not really in positive ways - one has the phrase used with the response of "Yeah, but that was a year ago!" (followed by exasperated sighing from the rest of the room), while the other is from someone's review of a teacher who (per said review) uses that phrase as a rhetorical answer to students who ask her too many questions.
So clearly the puzzle quality is still as good as ever.

Well another show that was hosted by Chuck Woolery featured letter calls on-screen, and instead of a red slash for a bad letter, it had a loud siren and an exploding graphic that scared me as a kid and others when it happened.

It's a great idea given the number of locations that show Wheel without sound and likely without closed captioning enabled. Those include bars, waiting rooms and gyms. The last being where I most often watch wheel while to pass the time on the treadmill.

Sounds to me like you're talking about Scrabble—is that the show you're thinking of?

I also agree with most of you that the letter being called should not be appearing on screen because there's closed captioning. I'd like them to get rid of the letters showing up on the left of the category strip eventually.
