So I'm the Executive Producer of a Wheel of Fortune style show at my college (Previously noted in another thread). I've been tasked to help come up with categories that appeal to a younger demographic (College Students/Young Adults). What are some of your ideas of categories that could garner youth interest?

Memes. Or go the Facebook Challenge route and do something along the lines of 2000's Fads.

Well, if you're going to target this towards college students, definitely use "College Life" as a category.
I would also aim for categories that Wheel of Fortune uses less often, such as Song Title/Lyrics, TV Title, Star & Role, Fictional Character(s), The 90's/00's, etc.
If you use these categories, you should probably use puzzles that would also appeal to the target audience. For example, use popular or well known songs/lyrics that almost all college students would know, a TV show most students would know, etc.
These categories to me are the "fun" categories, and make the game more interesting.
Best of luck.

I agree with acwof. College Life and puzzles that are geared toward the younger audience are great examples of this.
Heck, READY PLAYER ONE (a tossup from the current season) was a perfect example of trying to connect with the youth of today.

Heck, if they can include current movies and TV, then they can certainly include current music.

I think the reason they don't use current music is because it's not as universal like TV and movies. I know that sounds crazy but that's just my 2 cents.
I know I'd be lost on current music because I don't listen to it but current movies/TV I'm pretty good with.

I think the reason they don't use current music is because it's not as universal like TV and movies. I know that sounds crazy but that's just my 2 cents. I think the writers are too old to really know what's actually going on with music these days, not to mention that they'd have to comb through songs to find clean stuff to use for Song Lyrics. In any case, they need some younger blood in there. Or at least pass around some Geritol. I know I'd be lost on current music because I don't listen to it but current movies/TV I'm pretty good with. I don't really keep up with any of those three, to be honest. Not because I'm a "get the hell off my lawn"-type guy (yet), but because a large chunk of it doesn't really interest me.

VIDEO GAME POP CULTURE (singularly, refers to something from this century, although a decade preceding from the '90s and back could appear periodically) Also bring back SLANG, with a method of use similar to POP CULTURE.
And simply have more SONG TITLEs, TV TITLEs, ALBUM TITLEs, MOVIE TITLEs, under-35 stars, brands that appeal to the youth as part of other categories. I've recently watched the first episode of Game Show Garbage's new "annual checkup" series on Wheel, and at the very least, just including these not only appeals the young, but allows the older contestants to spin their heads and discover something new.
