Since Christmas is coming up soon, I'd think it'll be appropriate to give you guys a recap on a Christmas episode that wasn't recapped yet. We're going back to season 21 this time.
HAPPY HOLIDAYS
AIR DATE: 12/24/03 (Day 3)
On the previous episode, a contestant LOST THE BIG ONE OF $100,000 (The puzzle was a phrase of GOOD-HUMORED and I think the D's were the only letter picks up there on the board IIRC. Correct me if I'm wrong though.). Let's hope things go by much better this time.
$1,000 Tossup: Title
_ I L V _ R
_ _ L _ S
Derek IDs the song, SILVER BELLS. Here's the midweek panel:
Derek Daggett: Culver City, California (Pat jokes about the video board for a bit.). Newlywed that recently got married to Melissa. Some kind of analyst in one of the largest health food companies in Southern California. Huge sports fan that enjoys the Chargers as well as golf.
Stephen Clare: Oakland Park, California. Retired computer technician. Enjoys traveling and hopes to win one on this show.
Jana Wariak: Coatsville, Pennsylvania. Administrative assistant. Married to Brian with a two-year-old son. Huge fan of the Philadelphia Flyers (hockey).
$2,000 Tossup: Around The House
_ O O K S _ _ L _
_ P _ A K _ R S
Derek hears these BOOKSHELF SPEAKERS for spinning rights.
(The episode's gift tag is from SEARS. We all know that company's nonexistent as of right now. )
$10,000 Round: Things (Also The Prize Puzzle Round)
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ / _ _ _
_ _ _ _ _ _
(I no-lettered this one.)
Derek begins with an $800 N, 2 $900 D's (At this point, Pat then reminds the contestants that it's a PRIZE PUZZLE because he forgot to mention that at the beginning of the round.), buys 2 A's, one I, gets 2 S's on $550 (He nearly hit the 10k's right side.), buys an E, but duds out with an L on $300.
Stephen's first spin lands on $2,500, but doesn't cash in with the R.
Jana gets an M on $400 (near $550), but the BANKRUPT gives up that same amount. Derek doesn't do any better with an H on $550.
Back to Stephen who gets a $500 T and 3 $600 G's. He then buys the last vowel of O...
G A D G E T S / A N D
G I _ M O S
...and will receive some GADGETS AND GIZMOS (Electronics/Home Entertainment Package from CRUTCHFIELD) worth $3,500 (Plus $2,050 in cash to boot.). No trip for him, but he takes the early lead with $5,550 in cash and electronics.
Pre-Round 2 Scores:
Derek: $3,000 Tossup Money
Stephen: $5,550 cash and electronics
Jana: Two spins, not much luck.
Round 1 Events:
Duds of L and H from Derek ($2,900 Unclaimed).
Dud of R form Stephen.
$400 BANKRUPT from Jana.
(Yes, you heard me. The PRIZE PUZZLE was NOT a trip. I'm pretty sure there was at least one more example of this, but there isn't enough evidence on the web for me to prove it.)
Prize Added to Wheel: JW Marriott Phuket Resort & Spa worth $7,890 (Wedge is labeled HAPPY HOLIDAYS)
Jolly Time Popcorn JACKPOT Round: Before & After
_ / _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ ($5,000)

_ _ _ _ _ _ _
Stephen gets 3 T's on $600 (near $3,500), buys an E and 3 A's, gets 3 R's on $450 and 2 C's on the SEARS gift tag, buys an O, and gets $300 from an L. He debates whether to spin or not. He says to spin, but it was a bad choice as he hits the BANKRUPT near JACKPOT.
Jana gets a $900 H, but the other BANKRUPT takes back her $900.
Derek fares much better, calling the twin C's on the JACKPOT...
A / C H R _ S T _ A S ($7,250)
C A R O L
_ _ R _ E T T
...and we have a JACKPOT win! A CHRISTMAS CAROL BURNETT will hand Derek the $7,250 JACKPOT, putting him in in the lead with $10,250!
Pre-Round 3 Scores:
Derek: $10,250
Stephen: $5,550 cash and electronics
Jana: Still continuing that same pattern...
Round 2 Events:
BANKRUPT hits from Stephen ($3,700 cash and SEARS) and Jana ($900).
JACKPOT win from Derek ($7,250)!
Mystery Prize: 2003 Kia Rio worth $9,726
MYSTERY Round: Show Biz

_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
Jana gets a T on $400 (near $600), 4 N's on $450, an S on $300, buys 4 O's and 2 I's, gets an M on $550, and buys an A.
_ O _ _ _ N / _ _ O _ _
N O M I N A T I O N S
Jana won't be getting some GOLDEN GLOBE NOMINATIONS for her appearance this episode, but she does get a PERFECT ROUND and finally adds some money, $2,300 exactly, to her score.
Pre-Round 3 Scores:
Derek: $10,250
Stephen: $5,550 cash and electronics
Jana: $2,300
Round 3 Events:
PERFECT ROUND for Jana.
(There were also 2 G's and 2 D's missing as well...)
$3,000 Tossup: Fictional Character

Derek sweeps the Tossups with FATHER TIME.
(Before Round 4, Stephen calls Derek some kind of a nickname and Pat jokes with it. Meanwhile, we get a full shot of the wheel that still has the add-ons, so there is time for spinning in the next Round.)
Round 4: Phrase

Derek begins with a $400 (near $600) T, a $900 N, buys an E and 3 A's, gets an S on $300 (near $900), an L on $800, buys an O to clear out the vowels, but the BANKRUPT near $500 wipes out his remaining $1,650.
Stephen gets a $550 C, 2 D's on the same $300, and 2 H's on $300. After that, the Final Spin bells ring, so there won't be time for a Round 5.
C O L D / H A N D S

Final Spin: $1,300 (Pat may have hit the other BANKRUPT on his first spin.)
Stephen: 2 R's

$100,000 BONUS ROUND
Derek is obviously a good puzzle-solver. Aside with some cash, he could be rewarded with a Jaguar X-Type or a Land Rover Freelander!
He has his wife, Melissa, and his mom Marla watching him. His spin lands on the N in WIN.

RSTLNE provides an interesting setup.

He wins! He'll get another $25,000 from this TOBOGGAN and finishes with an all-cash total of $38,250!
(Cue Harrah's Las Vegas Sweepstakes from a long time ago.)
Closing Chat: Apparently, Vanna thought that TOBOGGANS were also things that you put on your head.
(Some of the episode's music was featured on The Christmas Album by Johnny Mathis.)
