As you would probably have noticed by now, WHEEL OF FORTUNE has launched a nationwide search for a new announcer following the passing of Charlie O'Donnell.
So far, the majority of episodes taped for the last few months or so featured Jim Thornton as the announcer and he has done a fantastic job so far.
So do you think there is a great chance that Thornton will be named the new permanent announcer for WHEEL before the end of the season?

There were rumors a while back that Thornton had been selected as the permanent announcer...I don't know if that was ever confirmed, though...
Regardless, I think it's a pretty likely that he is the permanent announcer. Of all the ones I've heard this season, he's clearly the best person for the job, too...

I thought Joe Ciapriano was the best cu so he may get it, he has the energy the show needs

With the season almost over, it does seem inevitable that Jim Thornton will be named new announcer for WHEEL. Don't you think?

I would think so, guys. Jim has been getting better since he first announced for "Happy Holidays" week. So, I'm like 90% sure he'll take over the mike for next season.

It's obvious that Jim is going to be the permanent announcer. The same thing happened with George Gray on TPIR. He ended up guest-announcing more than anybody else, then was declared permanent announcer on-air by Drew.
I like Jim, and I'm happy for him. I kind of wanted Rich Fields to get the job, though. Oh, well. At least he's announcing for Drew Carey's Improv-A-Ganza.

Jim Thornton has been my favorite since I first heard him. Rich didn't impress me that much at all.

I agree with you. I've heard Rich do a better job announcing.

I didn't like Rich at first, but he grew on me when I remembered how shrill and screechy he'd become on TPIR.
Still, I liked Jim from the first day I heard him.

Who knows he maybe and he may not be we just have to wait 16 weeks (sounds better than saying until summers over) to see if they confirm on air which they probably will

Congratulations, Jim! I did feel that he was truly the best of the bunch, and the long string of Thornton-announced episodes pretty much confirmed that he was their choice, but I'm glad they made it official now. With this news, I'm going to re-title and sticky this thread so it's noticed a little more by those logging on today.

They better make up for this by ending the season on the third Friday of June.

Well, congratulations to Mr. Thornton! He sure did wonderful guest-announcing since his first week of shows back in December 2010. And I can't believe the show is starting on the 19th of September of next season. UGH. I thought it was supposed to be the second Monday after Labor Day!

The same Monday that many would expect Season 40 of The Price is Right to debut. I wonder why the change this time? I remember up to and including 2002, WOF debuted the new season on Labor Day. That changed in 2003 to debuting on the second Monday in September. Now it's changing to the third Monday in September. Makes me wonder why they're doing this now? And I can't believe the show is starting on the 19th of September of next season. UGH. I thought it was supposed to be the second Monday after Labor Day! The 19th is the second Monday after Labor Day... Yes, you are right. But I think what an007 was referring to was the second Monday in September as to why it's not starting around that time.
