Apparently, Wheel was preempted on October 25, 1983, when President Ronald Reagan ordered the invasion of Grenada. Since it's been confirmed that it preempted Sale of the Century (per sriv94), it's possible the same thing happened to Wheel. classic.tvnews.vanderbilt.edu/tvn-day-search.pl?SID=20190126199852504&code=tvn&ShowYear=1983&ShowMonth=10&ShowDay=25Not only that, but there was a marathon of NBC Saturday Morning cartoons on November 25, 1983. The Smurfs aired in its place. www.newspapers.com/search/#query=Smurfs&ymd=1983-11-25&lnd=1&t=7802Where sriv94 mentioned the Grenada preemption: www.youtube.com/watch?v=i2xQh105ctYThe bottom line is: It explains how the 3,000th episode ended up being October 3, 1986. The December 13, 1982 and January 20, 1983 shows were each #2016 and #2044.
