Any advice or recap from someone who went on as a couple? My husband and I have been chosen and we could use advice. Who spins, do they tell you or you choose? Did you have a speaking strategy? TIA

Remember the house minimum is $2,000, so if you get control and a puzzle is nearly full, it's probably not worth spinning a couple of times to get some money; just solve.

Are you two taping for the second Aulani Hawaiian Vacation week, by any chance?

We were on the Aulani 2/7 airdate. In retrospect, I wish I would have practiced playing the game standing up in the living room with my wife. Perhaps on a treadmill or running in place will get you where you may be physiologically when you're playing the real game. We only spun twice. Our plan was for me to spin and her to call letters. However, the moment took hold and she froze up and called a letter that wasn't even close. So, I would say whoever spins, as soon as you let go of the wheel, have your letter ready to go, and decide who will call it. I made the mistake of looking at the wheel and she basically froze....and I didn't see that she was asking me to take over, etc.

My husband is a thinker and a slow talker so we will have to practice. He's going to spin so while he does that I'll try to stare at the board and not brain freeze.

For the theme America's game what would you study? Figure we have 1/6 chance that's what we will get for our theme.

For every main round EXCEPT the Prize Puzzle/speedup, ALWAYS go for every multiple unless you reached 10k for the round. Like Mario said, you can solve without any money for the 2k house minimum if the puzzle is ALMOST complete (like above 90% filled in).
Disney seems to have Prize Puzzles that are on the upper side of expensive, so try to distance yourself as far as you can in R1-2 in the fact that someone else wins the prize puzzle.

For the theme America's game what would you study? Figure we have 1/6 chance that's what we will get for our theme. US cities, landmarks, and state nicknames. The first Toss-Up will 99% likely be one of those. Other than that, don't count on much theme-ing if you get the AG show. As for the Aulani shows, look up appropriate puzzles from previous Hawaii and resort-themed weeks and prepare to see something similar. Go here and look for weeks with words like "Hawaii", "Resort", "Beach", "Shore", and "Sandals" in the title: buyavowel.boards.net/thread/4098/first-run-recap-directoryAlso, whoever is spinning should keep note of how far your spins usually go and use precaution when a penalty wedge is on track to appear on the next spin. And I can't stress this enough, remember the $2,000 house minimum. But also remember that the Prize Puzzle trips are going to be madly expensive, so if you only have like $4,000 after Round 2, if you don't win Round 3, you're not going to the Bonus Round. Make note of these buzzwords for the Prize Puzzle: buyavowel.boards.net/thread/8499/common-prize-puzzle-wordsAnd memorize recent Bonus Round puzzles since they love to re-use words. We have plenty of potential ideas here: buyavowel.boards.net/thread/9811/predicting-future-bonus-puzzles

Thanks for the help everyone. I think Trevor and I ended up doing well with what we could. There wasn't much we could do about the amazing wheel luck blue team had, I don't feel they got the puzzle figured out as quickly as we did but none of that matters if it isn't your turn. We decided Trevor would spin (I had a kidney removed 4 weeks before the taping) and I would hold the buzzer. Assigning duties helped quite a bit. Other than that we just whispered to each other. Worked well for us.
