Contestant experiences on Wheel are always appreciated by me, especially older ones like this. Now...the article mentions four episodes taped in May 1979 (the fourth being shot on the 31st), airing in mid-June or so based on the author's mention of "four weeks later". The writer refers to $500 and $1,500 as being the top values for Rounds 1 and 3, which along with the third picture showing the $275 wedge indicate that the Wheel layouts hadn't been changed to the $750/$1,000/$2,000 structure as of the 5/31/79 tapings, which actually helps narrow the change down (albeit only a little bit, since the writer doesn't mention his episodes' airdates for whatever reason). On a side note, none of the puzzles mentioned in the article are from footage we know to exist.

Thanks for sharing as I always enjoy the stories of those who spin, no matter what their performance was! Speaking of shows that no longer exist, here's another (the Feb. 2, 1984 daytime episode) featuring a radio DJ from Kentucky who won $2,400, and includes some interesting info about his audition and contestant experience. No word about who the big winner was. I'm surprised that his total winnings and outcome were mentioned since this story was written before the air date, something that's a no-no nowadays. books.google.com/books?id=fAUbAAAAIBAJ&pg=PA86&dq=%22wheel+of+fortune%22&article_id=6694,3977366&hl=en&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwjjzJDZsdfhAhUN2VkKHSygDF84ChDoAQhFMAc#v=onepage&q=%22wheel%20of%20fortune%22&f=false
