Just a thought: I know that in the UK and Australia, winnings on game shows are tax-free.
Any thoughts on why America doesn't have any tax exemptions on game show winnings?

In the case with James Holzhauer, he had to pay almost half of his Jeopardy! winnings in taxes, both federal and state. He is a Nevada resident but had to pay California taxes because of where Jeopardy! is taped.
The IRS considers game show winnings as ordinary income, thus taxes them up to 37 percent.

Millionaire had a gimmick on the 2/18, 2/21, 2/22, and 2/23/2001 episodes during the Regis run in conjunction with H&R Block where a contestant could also win, courtesy of H&R Block, money to cover the taxes.
