This isn't Wheel related per se, but it's production company, so it fits here. Mike Richards, executive producer of The Price is Right and Let's Make a Deal, is leaving Fremantle to develop game shows for Sony Pictures and their various platforms. He has signed a multi-year deal, effective in September. Honestly, while there were certainly a lot of people who weren't the biggest fans of his during his tenure at Price, he did do a lot to help move that show through the Drew Carey era... and he has proven that he is capable of innovating while maintaining tradition when possible. He could do a lot of wonders for Wheel...

Could Sony be grooming him to succeed Harry Friedman, who started in game shows in 1971, when Harry decides to retire? MIke would probably make more sense to be used for WOF than Jeopardy, however.

I hope not; because, he's not the right fit for both WOF and J!. He might fire Jim Thornton in favor of another comedian as an announcer. He'll probably turn Jeopardy! into Gyp-Parody!. Tbh I really don't like Mike.

Tbh I really don't like Mike. I highly doubt it. Have you watched Price the past few years? It's a lot better than what it was ten years ago. It's also unfair to blame everything that went on over at Television City on Mike, either. Fremantle micromanages everything, as evidenced by the fact that their CEO is listed as an executive producer of every one of their productions (including Price). If anything, Mike is perhaps the person to inject a new life into Wheel after the show's been stale as fuck over the past several years.

I don't know how the whole EP system works, and I don't know who to blame for the incident in the past decade; but, I still don't think it's a good idea. I understand that he's going to do what's best for the game show fanbase; however, I fear that it's going to be way too old (by replicating the 70s or the 80s way). Just because fanbase wants to go back to the way it is, doesn't mean it's going to be a success. You can't solve every problem by going back to the old fashioned way. I get it that it's best for the fans; but, to me that's showing favoritism. Not only he could be the next EP; but, it's possible that he might get the chance to be the next host. And that is not what I want to see. His hosting is too robotic, and his jokes aren't funny. Besides the reason for wheel being stale is because Sony is not doing their job. It's because they want to be as cheap as possible, they're being way too conservative. Same thing with GSN when Amy Davis and David Goldhill took over the network; but, worse. They gave us crappy shows, crappy host and crappy producers. They're also way too lazy to find someone better. Every choice is way too random such as picking random people off the streets to host a game show. They're putting no effort, they have no taste, they're way too lazy, and they're way too picky.

I'll say that Price is absolutely nothing like how it was in the 70s and 80s. It has the same format (6 games, 2 Showcase Showdowns, 2 Showcases), but the set has certainly been modernized, and there is a clear push for technology. And frankly, I feel like that's a good thing. I don't really think Dream Car Week and Kids' Week is "going back to the old fashioned way." It's possible that he might get the chance to be the next host. From what I've seen on Divided, I'd say he's an okay host. Not a spectacular one, but an alright one. However, I guarantee you he's not going to be the next host of Wheel. If anything, he'd be the host of Jeopardy! instead of this show, since it would be a bit rough trying to replace two different hosts with such a short timespan. Even then, this blurb in the article seems to lead me to think he's not becoming a host: Besides the reason for wheel being stale is because Sony is not doing their job. It's because they want to be as cheap as possible, they're being way too conservative. I don't think that is a reason to bash Mike Richards. That would be a reason to bash Sony, and even then, hiring a seasoned game show veteran doesn't feel that conservative to me. Really, it's way too early to assume if this is a good or bad thing for Wheel, so I'm not going to make a judgment call just yet. My gut says that Sony must have hired Mike Richards instead of "random people off the streets" in order to improve the quality of the show, in order to get more viewers/advertisers.

If anything, Mike is perhaps the person to inject a new life into Wheel after the show's been stale as fuck over the past several years. Good lord, I hope so. Friedman's shown time and again that he's become rather apathetic towards the show in the past decade, whereas Mike is not only substantially younger but has a solid understanding of both the genre and the benefits of social media.

I'm not bashing on Mike, I'm only bashing on Sony and GSN for their stupidity.

JEOPARDY! is going to be just fine since Harry has been nurturing the love it never got from Merv Griffin back then, which was why Wheel Of Fortune was proven to be the favorite. The reason why Trebek's quiz show is popular with today's youth is because they're up to date with pop culture and everything else. Besides, I can imagine a lot of teenagers on social media tweeting about how Dear Evan Hansen's Ben Platt or BTS ended up being a clue or the correct response on the show, as well as the fact that a tournament is made for them to compete and to see which of the 15 brightest minds will take home $100,000 in the course of a fortnight. As of now, Harry is still the executive producer for both of the syndicated shows and it could be possible for Mike to succeed him for either one or both of those shows. Just don't quote me on the successor part, though.

Just to clarify, Mike's new job at Sony will be developing and producing new shows, according to the article. He is "joining their roster", not replacing anyone. We don't know if this position will put him anywhere near having any say in production at Wheel or any other existing show. He won't even be at Sony yet when Season 37 of Wheel starts taping in July.
Sony should have showed Harry the door after the way he treated Wheel during Season 36, especially towards the end and including the 7000th show. He needs a serious lesson from Mike Richards on how to do milestone episodes, and how to actually do cross-promo between sister shows. Wheel's ratings likely will never be at or above Jeopardy!'s again until Alex is gone, if anything.
Also, don't forget that Mike Richards stole the concept of Big Money Week from Wheel and made it ten times better, making Wheel's look like an absolute joke in recent years. Dream Car Week was also a thing on Wheel before Price.

My first choice for new EP would be Vin Rubino, who was behind the most recent Pyramid, Joker's Wild, and Chain Reaction revivals. But Mike Richards could also potentially breathe some life back into the show (if he did eventually become the EP). Someone needs to, anyhow.

Season 37 of Wheel starts taping in July. Not really related to anything, but "Season 37" kinda gives me a shiver given how that same numbered season went for Price. Mike Richards stole the concept of Big Money Week from Wheel and made it ten times better, making Wheel's look like an absolute joke in recent years. Well, for one thing Mike's Big Money Weeks actually have increased stakes involved... Sony should have showed Harry the door after the way he treated Wheel during Season 36, especially towards the end and including the 7000th show. From what I've read, they did show Friedman the door. They agreed it looked nice, then went back to work.

There's no proof Friedman has been let go as of yet.
