This is my first post. I just received my CONGRATULATIONS letter informing me I was selected to be a contestant! SO EXCITING!!! I have been reviewing some of the other threads here and have found this forum to be very helpful but I had a couple questions I haven't been able to find answers to, so I thought I would ask:
1. What's the average wait time from getting letter to going to the studio for your taping? 2. Likewise, how long after your taping does it usually take for your show to air? 3. What is the official dress code for men? 4. I hear there are some hotel deals, where's the best place to stay when you fly in for your taping? 5. Finally, what are the best ways to practice for the show?
Thank you so much for any advice, tips, or insights. I appreciate the help.

Hi, for me I got my letter May 1st, one of the coordinators called in the middle of June, asking if I could come to CA July 14th to tape my show. Taped the show on July 14, it aired October 5. I would say for men for dress code, a nice long sleeve shirt and dress pants, or khaki's. They will send you a whole slew of rules and dress codes in the mail, though, in a packet. I and my family stayed in the hotel earmarked for WHEEL contestants, can't remember the name anymore. They send you over the morning of your taping in a van with the other contestants. I'd say just watch the show when you can leading up to your day: remember, anything can happen that day, and usually will, some things you can't prepare for. Smile and be a likeable contestant is my advice, someone fun to watch!

On the preparation front, watching as much as possible can't be a bad idea. YouTube compilations, aired episodes, anything you can find to keep your puzzle senses sharp. If you find yourself with only spare bits of time during your day you can also download the mobile game. It's unrealistically easy in a few ways compared to the show (A.I. opponents, bonus puzzle difficulty, etc.) and the structure of gameplay is a bit different but it's free, and more puzzles to read seems like a win in my book as long as you don't assume every strategy will translate over perfectly.

Usually about 2-3 months, but it can be as little as a couple weeks or as much as nearly a year. 2. 6-8 weeks, though America's Game weeks can stretch this out to three or even four months. 3. Everything that princessd says is correct, but I do believe that lettering, prints, or with any tattoos visible are forbidden. If they are, they must be covered with makeup if they happen to cover an area where they're impossible to wear over, like the hands and neck. There is even a rule where solid black, white, or red is also discouraged, though there have been known instances where all three colors have been worn by men over the past couple seasons. 4. Wheel's de facto official hotel is the Doubletree L.A. West, located between downtown Culver City and LAX right off the 405 freeway, and it offers a special "Sony rate" for contestants, and by mentioning them, you'll get a decent rate for this three-star hotel, often in the low $100s. I'd just stay there, and it isn't too far from the airport. 5. In addition to just watching Wheel, playing Hangman and also completing crossword puzzles; the later can also make you a better Scrabble player! I would also study the "Future Bonus Puzzle Predictions" thread to give you a feel at the ramped-up difficulty that are being used to cause the BR to be nearly as hard as Sale of the Century's Winner's Big Money Game (watch BUZZR at 7:00 Eastern and you'll see what I mean). Also, please check out the Puzzle Compendium for the most comprehensive list of puzzles used on Wheel, and have a friend or loved one pick out a puzzle, have a mock Wheel (even if you just have a paper clip and pencil on a piece of paper works fine), and play along!

THe Winner's Big Money game had spells where it was won a lot, and spells where it wasn't. It IIRC went 1/10 during the True Romance tourney and 5/5 in Bride's week, for two.

1. My wait time, letter on February 1, taped on October 25, but the summer break was in there. 2. My show aired 6-7 weeks ago taping 4. Last year they recommended 2 hotels, we stayed at the doubletree, got the Sony rate. If you stay anywhere besides the recommended hotels, then you have to get to the studio on your own by 7:30. I say it’s easier to stay where they recommend & get the shuttle. 5. I taped the reruns on GSN as well as the current shows & took notes, since I’m a visual learner. Common phrases, occupations, people, etc. I made a letter board so I got used to looking away from the puzzle over to the other. Very important. I practice clicking with a pen on the toss ups, so I would be quick but wait until I really knew the answer. Good luck!
