Man JJ, what awful luck. Between some bad spins, a Mystery gamble that didn't pay off (though I'd have done the same thing), and a player who was legitimately good, it just wasn't your night. $8000 isn't anything to snuff about, though... you still did far better than I would do on the show. Any plans for the money?
Of course the puzzle writing didn't help either... it's almost as if they knew you were one of us and intentionally wrote puzzles to screw with you...

Sorry for the bad luck jjman920 but nice finish. MY RATING: 7 Again, I base my ratings on the overall quality of the episode as a whole, I don't want any BAV member who goes on the show to feel they're being singled out by my ratings.

The million dollar wedge lasted 2 full rounds. Can't believe it got bankrupted in R3. Michelle Lowenstein picked it up on her first spin. So did Renee tonight. That bonus puzzle I didn't even come up with it and out of nowhere she solved it. That was an awesome amount she won $45,000. Although she didn't land on the $100,000 I wish the million would have been sitting in it's spot

Nice show! Still feel bad that you didnt win JJman. But still $8,000 isnt bad! Kind of wanted Renee to win to since she had the MDW but it was lost. And another $45K Win! I hope we see the $50K won this season since it wasn't won last season.

JJ! You did well and I hope you have big plans for the money. I did want to break down the episode more than I normally do... Renee was no slouch. As shown in the Bonus Round, she was a good player who was able to just take complete control of R1. I also would have gone for the Mystery wedge gamble. Sure it's putting $4k at risk for $10k - but you were already about $7k down from the lead so I thought it was worth it. I'm curious if you knew the puzzle at that point (I didn't) and whether you thought about not going for the same letter to save it for your next spin. The "B" guess in R3 was the turning point of the game for you. You needed the Prize Puzzle to set up a showdown during the Speed Up, but Renee was able to grab it. I have never seen or spelled "mangos" with an E, and if the National Mango Board says they prefer it without that's good enough for me to think this was just a bad beat. I thought you still had an outside chance if you swept the Triple Toss Ups. Once you got the pattern you really shined in #2 and #3. Unfortunately you didn't get even one spin in R4, but the $5k was probably the only thing that could have saved you at that point. Pat's low amount in the Speed Up meant that when you solved the puzzle, there weren't enough consonants left to have made a comeback even if you swept the whole board. But I thought that he was impressed by the way that you played, even though we know your favorite game show is TPiR. Congratulations!

Jason's affiliate is not the only one who messed up tonight. Myrtle Beach, SC did too. Jason's affiliate and WBTW CBS in Myrtle Beach, SC, both aired last night's episode instead of tonight's. I live in SC. Lucky me I don't live in Myrtle Beach. My affiliate is WOLO ABC in Columbia.

jjman920, you did fine for yourself. PUDDINGS had absolutely zero relation with the rest of the puzzle in R2. I did kinda get where you were going when you flipped the mystery wedge since you had 4 grand to risk, although my dad thought that it was a pretty stupid move wasting the same letter. R3 reminded me of tuffy’s episode a little bit (The puzzle was RED PAPAYAS AND RIPE MANGOES. Said contestant blew $10,850 and a $6K Caribbean Cruise by calling an L while on the Express.). Yet another strange Triple Tossup. Don’t think I’ve heard of SOUTH FLORIDA STONE CRABS or CORN-FED NEBRASKA BEEF before... I had the bonus with RSTLNE because there was a similar one used a few years ago (JUST ABOVE A WHISPER). That was probably the most surprising Bonus Round this season. I thought Renee was hosed with those letter picks, but she made it look easy for the $45K!

Jim sounded like he tripped over his pre-prize quip.
I believe, not counting one round where it was thrown out, this confirms what is done to the SL bonus when called on a Mystery wedge. His scoreboard showed only $1,000.
That was a surprising solve. I had it off RSTLNE and managed to avoid spoilers.
Puzzle writing did seem oddly off kilter.

I would have flipped the Mystery Wedge in this situation as well. Too bad for the Bankrupt. They went a little overboard with the Triple Toss-Up puzzles, I would think? Those adjectives certainly ate up some time.

JJ did pretty well on the late rally. I am definitely in the minority when it comes to the mystery wedge but for good reason. I am a teacher, and any kind of chance to get anything in 4 figures beyond regular work is highly unusual, as in has not happened in over a decade. So if I have gathered 3 grand, I am not risking it. I would feel far worse risking a mystery wedge, hitting bankrupt, and going home with the house minimum than I would have going home with 3 grand and finding out the mystery wedge was 10 grand. A million dollar loss would of course land me in Arkham Asylum.

Sorry for not posting sooner, Jason, but in unusual fashion, I did get the opportunity to satisfy my appetite for Wheel action(after having already answered your DPG puzzle for the day) by watching your episode later the same night it aired. I'm sorry the Wheel wasn't a little nicer to you, but I'm glad to see you walked away with a decent amount of spending money. I was especially impressed with your REAL VERMONT MAPLE SYRUP (it's amazing how sometimes I can see those Toss-Up answers right away, and yet other times I feel as though I'm caught in a fog) and BREAKING A WORLD RECORD solves. Congratulations again for making your once-in-a-lifetime appearance. You certainly looked as though you enjoyed it.

Jason, with the chances and bad luck you had, you did great. $8K is a very nice chunk of change.
I’m not sure I would’ve flipped the Mystery wedge on the Same Letter, though. It has work out for some contestants, though.
I’ve never heard of STONE CRABS until now. Glad Ronda solved it since she lost the French trip to a BANKRUPT; for that, I felt really sorry for her given she’s a travel lover.
They love using CELEBRITY CHEF on food weeks, don’t they? And R1 felt like PP material.
Renee, on the other hand, pretty much dominated. Honestly, I had little confidence she would solve the BR (which I got with RSTLNE) due to her picks, but she proved me wrong! $45K is well-deserved.
My rating: 7
Enjoy your winnings, Jason!

Thank you everyone for your comments. This was an experience I still really can't believe happened to me.
When it came to the first toss up, I had "I'M REALLY (blank) HUNGRY" and I thought to myself, "Are they doing this repeat thing?" Convinced myself to ring in and give it a shot. Glad it worked out. The interview kinda just happened. I let them know about my job and my love of game shows and when Pat asked for my favorite (which unfortunately not Wheel, though it's up there), I started to say it, but realized he was looking for Wheel as an answer. So, that's how that happened. Didn't realize how funny it would be.
I didn't have CHEF, though I should've figured it out sooner. I think that pretty much set the tone for the show since R1 was an easy puzzle allowing Renee to rack up an early lead.
When it comes to the Mystery Round, "PUDDINGS" was a stumper for all three of us talking after the show. By the time my spin to the mystery wedge came, I knew P was the same letter and it was the only letter I was sure on, so I had to go with it. As for the flip, I figured I was already down by a significant margin and would be nice to have the lead after this round. Also, I figured if it didn't work out, there weren't many letters left on the board and I start the Prize Puzzle round, so Renee's lead wouldn't grow too much if I did okay in the second round. Sad that it didn't, but it was also cool that I got to pick up a wedge off of the wheel.
As for the Prize Puzzle, I shouldn't have called that B once my turn got back to me. I was still influenced by the previous day's Prize Puzzle and think there was a place name in the puzzle, so I misread "MANGOES" as "BANGKOK" even though the O was one space over to make it impossible. I also knew "ON" was already filled in and "ON BANGKOK" doesn't make much sense, but we've seen odd phrasing from the show before. I would've zeroed in "MUNCHING" had I not made that mistake and kept my turn. Oh well. Hawaii is definitely at top destination of mine since I've never been and would love to visit.
At this point, while I was a little worried about leaving with only the $1K I earned at the beginning, I knew there was plenty of opportunity to pick up some cash even if I probably couldn't catch up to Renee. My hope for a good Triple Toss Up was answered. While I wasn't familiar with stone crabs, knowing the theme, I'm glad I could figure out the other two faster than my opponents.
Wished I could've had a spin or two in R4 just to get the wheel in a different position for the final spin. I knew Pat would have no chance of reaching the $5K in a full speed up round, but the Mystery Round and Prize Puzzle Round took time. The puzzle was similar to one I saw at my Wheelmobile event. I didn't have it until after I called the L. A shame I didn't call the R or figure the D, but in the end, I was happy to have solved one maingame puzzle. I didn't even realize how much I had won until Pat told me. It didn't even occur to me how much I had after the Triple Toss Up, I was just focused on solving the puzzles left.
It was such an amazing experience, one that I'll elaborate on in a longer post in Spinning Stories soon. Renee and Rhonda were very nice people. I sat with Renee and her husband in the audience after the show to watch the taping of Wednesday's show. They're both very nice people and I couldn't be happier for them and their big win. I could tell Renee was focused leading up to the show. She was a great opponent.
Being on a game show was a dream and I hope to be on more. This is certainly something I'll never forget.
