Hey everyone! I thought I would introduce myself to the group right off the bat. I discovered this forum while searching for tips on how to succeed in a Wheelmobile audition, and decided to stay and see how deep this rabbit hole goes.
Like many of you, I grew up with Wheel of Fortune being part of the fabric of our household. Sandwiched between my dinner and my bath, I had the luxury of watching Wheel with my parents on a nightly basis. As I grew older, I considered it quite the achievement when I could solve a puzzle before my Mom (she's a fantastic solver). As the years went by, life got busy, and I watched Wheel of Fortune far less.
Fast forward several years to Nov. 13th, 2019. I am at my local gym doing my warm-up, when I look up and notice Wheel of Fortune is on one of the televisions. I remember thinking of how fun it would be to one day be a contestant on the show with my Mom. It was one of those random brief thoughts that left as quickly as it arrived. Ironically, about 15 minutes later (it was shoulder night by the way), my Dad sends me a text saying the Wheelmobile was going to be about 5 minutes from my house in Little Rock on Nov. 16th. I took that as a sign and texted him back about my random thought. I called my Mom to urge her to come to the Wheelmobile event with me, but she made several excuses of why she couldn't make it. So, I left the conversation thinking I would be going solo to the event. The night before the event, my Mom said she had made arrangements and was able to make it after all. The day of the event, I met my parents in line and we began filling out our applications. It is difficult for me to walk as the line moves and write, especially when I don't have a solid backdrop. So, I found a small A-frame sign and finished my application as others passed me in line. I finally dropped my application in the box and joined the crowd of at least 500 in the shopping center parking lot.
During the first show of the day (there were 3 total), they called my Mom's name to come to the stage (4th round, I believe). I was so excited for her and was prepared to take video of her going through her interview with Marty, when they called me up to be on deck in the very next group. At that moment, I moved a mass of people and quickly made it to the edge of the stage. I was being briefed by one of the coordinators when my Mom was on stage, so I didn't get a good chance to hear or watch her (I would later see the video my Dad took). When my turn came, I was the 5th person from my group to be interviewed, so I made it a point to speak clearly and tell something unique about myself. I chose to mention how I was a kayak guide through shark infested waters several years ago. I ended up solving our puzzle. The category was "Living Thing," and the called letters up to that point were _ _ _ _ _ _ N _ EE. I called out "C" and Mallory wrote a "C" in the first box. I then clearly and loudly said "Chim - pan - zee" and was told that I had just solved the puzzle! I walked off the stage and was given a photo of Pat and Vanna, a shirt, a koozie, and a pencil.
So, here I am today, finding every bit of information I can on what to expect, should I get the e-mail invitation to attend a second audition. I hope my Mom gets an invite as well. I am also talking to a buddy who was on the show back in December of 2018.
I am an Enneagram Type 5, so I tend to research and analyze everything I care about to the extreme.
Personal Bio:
As mentioned, I live in Little Rock, Arkansas. I manage an office for one of the fastest growing staffing companies in the country. I married way up to my Cajun gymnast wife. We have a wonderful 2.5 year old daughter. She enjoys going to the zoo, so I immediately thought of her when "Chimpanzee" was my puzzle to solve. I love to travel and go on exciting adventures (see kayaking through shark infested waters).
Thank you for welcoming me to this group. I look forward to learning more from you, and hopefully, give you good news in the near future.
