I understand not wanting to tape another week missing Pat because there's not really a clean solution like Minnie to step in, Yeah there is - Jim Thornton. Have him do his announce copy over there too if you want. Having that as a contingency plan for Pat or Vanna would've prevented the taping cancellations, and the fact they don't have a contingency plan at all for them or Alex is, to me, shameful - and cancelled tapings penalize the contestants more than anybody else. I think cancelling the tapings *was* the contingency plan. Substitute hosts in all of television used to be the norm for quite a while in TV and they sorta died off until recently. At first, in the 50's, it was done out of necessity as programs were live and still had to go on. It continued into the 70s and 80s, probably due to the cost of videotape. Johnny Carson used to have a permanent guest host so he could have a shorter work week. Then the 90's rolled around, and things changed once Carson retired. It became standard practice for the most part to just cancel tapings if people weren't around. Some people still used them (Letterman comes to mind), and of course, they were needed in news since news is still produced live. I don't know if Price had a contingency for Bob Barker going down long term, but short term the plan was just to cancel tapings. Password Plus didn't have contingency for Allen Ludden. When Ludden found out about his cancer, they had to scramble to call Bill Cullen in because they had less than three weeks of episodes filmed when Allen was rushed to surgery. And for the last 30 years, it's worked out for them. Any tapings that needed to be missed by Pat, Vanna, or Alex were simply cancelled and shifted around. Usually with a little more notice than Pat's, but still the same. If this had happened after the Secret Santa tapings, they would've avoided all this havoc shifted around the tapings that were supposed to happen two weeks ago and catch up and probably be okay in time for these episodes.

Christmas week isn't the only week short on new episodes. The second America's Game week does not yet have an episode for Friday, January 3. The first week's episodes were obviously from the first five taping days of Season 37, but after that... Taping 6: Let's Eat! sixth episode airs Wednesday 1/1 Taping 7: Home Sweet Home likely did not tape a sixth episode; promotional weeks generally do not Taping 8: Bed & Breakfast sixth episode airs Tuesday 12/31 Taping 9: Veterans Week did not tape a sixth episode Taping 10: Great American Cities sixth episode (saluting DC) airs Monday 12/30 Taping 11: Shopping Spree sixth episode airs Thursday 1/2 Taping 12: Safe Travels did not tape a sixth episode according to RoonilWazlib who taped that week Tapings 13-14: Disney Secret Santa sans-Pat obviously only taped five shows per day ...The January 3 episode will either need to be taped this Thursday or Friday, or they will need to place another rerun that day. Xfinity listings now show that January 3 will be a new episode, which means that episode will be the first aired episode to have been taped after Pat's surgery, but I doubt Pat will acknowledge the situation that day, especially since we have Vanna back at the host's spot just one episode later. That day's episode will very likely be from the set of Collette British Landscapes or Great Escapes! Vanna's third week (Weekend Getaways) only taped five episodes.

This week's reruns are not airing in order despite what the listings say. Tonight was actually the Thursday episode of the week (12/27/18; Debbie/Nakeia/Brandon). Tonight's episode, and presumably the other episodes this week, begins with a special introductory message from Pat: The show then begins right from the chant, and a caption reading "Original Air Date / Dec. 2X, 2018" appears in the bottom-left corner. Tonight’s rerun is the Monday episode (Eric/Brian/Chelsea). Pat’s message was exactly the same as yesterday.
They’re likely shuffling the shows so that the Christmas Eve and Day episodes from last year are placed on their appropriate days for their reruns, so the week is probably Thu-Mon-Tue-Wed-Fri. Unfortunately, this means the 12/25/18 episode, the only BR win of the week, will be pre-empted twice on most ABC affiliates if this is the case.

The category strip error during the original airing of last night’s episode was still there on the rerun. Caught the promo for today which mentions the flashback to Vanna’s gift box incident, which means I was correct about the order for this week. The Wednesday episode is today and the Friday episode will finish off the week in its proper spot. www.clippituser.tv/c/bermbk
