This is going to be a bizarre couple of weeks. Between Vanna's nerves and Minnie's expressive gesturing, there's a lot of oddity going on.
Gameplay was pretty blah, although nothing like starting the week off with a missolve to make things weird.
Easy BR, can't wait to see what else this week will hold.

Not to mention Minnie just standing and pointing at the board in the Speed-Up, while the letters popped themselves in automatically. EDIT: And again in the Bonus Round... remind me, why is Minnie even there at this point?

On the one hand, Vanna did a great job in the predicament she got trapped in. I winced a little when she interacted with the cardboard instead of handing it to the contestants, but I laughed when she almost spun again in the SU.
I thought that we would get to a fifth puzzle- despite Vanna's mannerisms and the Secret Santa giveaway, I thought that the board automatically lighting up letters would give another minute or so to gameplay. Speaking of the puzzleboard, I think I'm going to get tired of Minnie's gesturing by the end of these two weeks, but for now, my bigger gripe was Tinkerbell randomly jetting through the background.
Hey, we get a nicer BR for once! I also really liked the shot of her daughters standing in front of the North Pole sign instead of sitting in the audience.
EDIT: I'll also throw this out there, since we're probably never seeing this again, but for TTU3, I noticed that the puzzle started with the E in POLE instead of the H in NORTH. I didn't catch if the same thing happened for TTU2, but that's something you don't see everyday.

Vanna looked uncomfortable in the beginning, but got better as the show went along.
Minnie on the other hand looked pathetic standing there making weird hand gestures. The person inside the costume probably felt more uncomfortable than Vanna.

I also really liked the shot of her daughters standing in front of the North Pole sign instead of sitting in the audience. That was done (and will be done on all of Vanna's episodes) because there were no audience members except for the contestants and their guests. That audience pan at the beginning was inserted from another taping. They also will not be doing any of those "back of the audience" shots that they sometimes use in the intro and credits.

Ok since other people have commented on this and I feel the need to get this out, I’m going to post this here.... Ok so tonight’s episode has some things that I didn’t like.... And that is very unusual that I do not like an episode of wheel... Here are the things I didn’t like. -Vanna seemed extremely uncomfortable.... Especially when interviewing the contestants.... She didn’t even ask them questions.... -Minnie stayed in one spot.... My question is..... WHY?!?! She’s obviously able to move!!!! If all she was going to do was just stand there, why did they have her up there? I honestly think she should’ve done the same as Vanna, walking back and forth touching the letters.... -They pretty much showed America tonight that Vanna doesn’t need to be there, because Minnie didn’t even touch the letters for them to light up. -Also, I get that there wasn’t an audience, but if contestants and their families were there for taping, why didn’t they just make them consist of the audience? Making it look like the way they do it when they are in the road looked kind of tacky....
On a more positive note, here are things that I liked/thought were funny -I was unsure if Vanna was going to continue with her traditional way of memorizing the puzzle or if she was going to have Pat’s index cards. I’m actually kind of glad to see her with the cards.... -Vanna messed up on final spin and thought she hit a bankrupt... That was kind of funny.
I don’t know how many of you are going to agree with me or not, but that’s how I feel about this....

Considering this was all put together on one day's notice, Vanna did great. It will be interesting to see how she improves as the week (and weeks) goes on.

Making it look like the way they do it when they are in the road looked kind of tacky.... They did, but the thing is, contestants need to be seated as far away from their guests as possible. Guests go in the left section, general audience goes in the middle, and contestants go on the right. When guests are shown in the audience, they move to the middle (forcing some people out of their seats for a minute) just for that one shot.

This is sure to be the kind of oddity that gets people talking about Wheel again. It was a very interesting exercise.
BR was very straightforward by actually being a genuine phrase and not a random jumble of words. Combined with some prime letter-picking, it was an easy win.

That audience pan at the beginning was inserted from another taping. They also will not be doing any of those "back of the audience" shots that they sometimes use in the intro and credits. Please pardon my relative ignorance, but why wasn't there an audience? Was it because of Pat not being the host or for a different reason? Is there a post I missed that explains this reasoning?

^ I've been told that they closed off all of Vanna's tapings to general audience members so that she would be less nervous.

With Vanna hosting and the letters on the board just popping up when called, it felt more like watching the old CD-ROM versions playing through. Couldn't they have had Minnie at least walk from one side to the other when a letter lit up like Vanna did in the 1994 PC/Sega CD and N64 versions?

For Vanna’s first hosted episode, it was great! Yes, some of her antics remind me of the old PlayStation games, but she too had a lot of genuine moments towards the end (Mistaking that she hit BANKRUPT on her first Final Spin - LOL!).
R3 shouldn’t have taken that long. And HARD CINNAMON ROLL? That sounds too unappetizing.
I got the BR w/ RSTLNE mainly because we had similar puzzles used in S23 (ON MY BEHALF - That caused a $100K loss.) and S34 (ON OUR BEHALF). I think Raychel knew it too and decided to call D as a precaution.
I also found it odd when Minnie just stood at the puzzle board. Then again, I think it’s to speed up the gameplay like my father suggested. I also found it odd when none of the cameras focused on the audience (I know that it’s almost empty, which is understandable IMO.).
Speaking about first timers and stepping out of the shadow like what Vanna White did on this episode, I decided to audition for my school’s spring musical, Mamma Mia! (First time that I went out of my way to do this.). Here’s hoping I can get the part! 😁

This was a bit of a rough start but Vanna did just fine in the end. Anybody know whether this was the first episode taped? If she was shaking off the jitters you might want to have waited until later in the week to run this one. After watching I agree with the decision to keep the audience away. There were times she was robotic and she's clearly not meant for this long term, but she kept the game moving. I thought it was great they left in her almost Final Spin mistake. Of course she gets a Wild Card episode and has to remember different rules. On the other hand, Minnie can go. She served no purpose other than waving her arms around. The final chat was also painful when Vanna is basically talking to herself with Mickey and Minnie just standing there smiling and nodding. With Vanna hosting and the letters on the board just popping up when called, it felt more like watching the old CD-ROM versions playing through. I thought of this myself, which is why I'm assuming it wasn't so odd to my ear. -They pretty much showed America tonight that Vanna doesn’t need to be there, because Minnie didn’t even touch the letters for them to light up. I don't think they needed the show tonight for that. EDIT: I just read in another thread this was actually the second week she taped, which means we are in for a pretty bumpy ride.

Anybody know whether this was the first episode taped? It wasn't. It was the sixth episode she taped. This week was the second taping day for Secret Santa. The second aired week was the first taped. All three contestants for this episode were from the LA market. That pretty much tells you the contestant department was working overtime trying to fill all the spots for the contestants who were supposed to tape the day they cancelled and couldn't stay through the following Monday when this eventually taped. Did anyone else watch with the closed captioning turned on and laugh every time Vanna was described as [ singsongy ]?

I fully understand Vanna's mistake in the final spin: she was looking at the current contestant's arrow instead of the red arrow. While Pat's been at this for years and knows it's always the red arrow, Vanna isn't really used to making final spins, and made an understandable mistake in looking at the current contestant's arrow instead.

Honestly, I think we should make a separate thread about how Vanna and Minnie hosted once all this over. Even so for taking Pat's place for the first time on the show (and not all those home adaptions that are still fun to play 25 years later), Vanna did well. The contestant interviews were noticeably short and straightforward, but overall, things were okay. I find it to be a taste of what to expect when Pat retires, whenever that occurs.
As for Minnie, having her at the Puzzle Board may have seemed unnecessary considering she wasn't walking around or revealing any letters, but I still loved the other aspects of her performance. She was applauding the contestants, dancing around, and twirling when the Bonus Round puzzle was solved. When it all comes down to it, my big thing is what will Minnie be wearing every night throughout all this? I would love to see a photo collage of such.

Vanna did a good job hosting! But Minnie seemed unnecessary. All she did was stand in one spot and the computer showed the letters. A great game too. A $37K win!
