Most of us know that Wheel had a brief period where it ran for an hour, and several decades later, is still waiting for its chance at primetime, and who knows when that will happen?
In the meantime, given what we've seen from other game shows, if Wheel ever did get an hour-long special, what do you think would be the best way to format it? These all seem like viable options:
- Two full games completely independent of each other, just like they do on Celebrity Family Feud and $100K Pyramid. This way, they can arrange games however they want and they don't have to be taped the same day.
- Same format as the hour-long daytime version. Six players (no champions), two main games, then a final "head-to-head" round between the two games' winners, with one of them advancing to the Bonus Round at the end.
- Just one full game, but with a more relaxed pace, like we see on Spain's version of Wheel. A looser Wheel to put more emphasis on the spinning, more room for chit-chat during the game, and more time for more puzzles. Unlike Family Feud and Press Your Luck, whose main games can end quickly with some really good or really bad gameplay, Wheel of Fortune has full control over how long a game will take.
Given that ABC likes to divide their game shows into "halves" for viewers who don't feel like watching the whole show, having two games seems to be the most realistic. Having just one Bonus Round at the very end with the usual format and timing seems like it would get too overshadowed by the rest of the game, unless it received an extreme overhaul like Press Your Luck's "Bonus Round", which is essentially the second half of the show.
Your thoughts?
