Taped off KTBC in Austin (commercials and early evening newscasts are going to be uploaded on YouTube soon, including a general Wheel promo), here's part of a Nighttime episode from late in Season 2. Clip ends after Round 3 (tape ran out, but wasn't intended to be recorded). An uncommon occurrence of a shopping-era element is featured here.

I hope Chris Bryant or Chuck D has the complete episode version of this from a GSN airing to find out which of these 3 players advanced to the bonus round. Now pannoni1, how did you get this episode? Obviously you may or may not have had GSN at the time of this episode's GSN rerun.

It was found on a Beta tape that I purchased off eBay about six months ago. As you know, game shows are rarely found on them that aren't taped by the contestants who were on them since most just taped movies or primetime programming on them, and occasionally sports, a talk show, or music videos. In this case, the tape began with an airing of The Long Riders, a 1980 western starring David, Keith, and Robert Carradine, followed by a portion of Late Night with David Letterman (poor audio/video quality for that portion), before cutting back for approximately the last 20 minutes of Game 2 of the 1985 NBA Finals along with the late newscast, then it cut back to the end of the 5 O'Clock news off the same station from three days earlier, then full newscasts of the CBS Evening News (Bob Schieffer subbed for Dan Rather on that Memorial Day), then the 6 O'Clock News off KTBC, and then finally, the first three rounds of Wheel before the tape ran out shortly after round three. If the recorder began from the start, it likely would have been for a CBS soap, which were fairly popular back in the '80s (usually it was Guiding Light that came on at 2:00 central, followed by various local programming afterwards before the news). Of course, soaps tended to be watched once before being retaped, but thankfully, this survived.
