Back when they weren't obsessed with making the Toss-Ups themed or meta.

Also known as "the day the classic music died", as Merv's departure from the show ended up taking "Changing Keys" out as well, removing a piece of Wheel's identity in the process.
Jeopardy!, meanwhile, kept chugging along as usual.

I've never really seen any Season 18 episodes before, so seeing this episode was interesting (I've seen plenty of S17 and S19). I didn't realize that both tossups were initially just $1,000.
I wonder if they would have accepted "Meep Meep" for R2, since I've seen some sources claim that's what the Road Runner actually says. I must commend Karen for her bravery, because I would have solved after that Bankrupt scare, but she kept going.
Since Wheel usually features family-friendly entertainment, I'm guessing if R5 were to run today, they would not categorize it as Character (the early morning Jeopardy! rerun had Game of Thrones-themed categories so I've been in that mindset all day).
Was this the season where they started keeping all the wheel prizes every day? Or was that S19?

They started keeping all the bonus prizes every day starting at the beginning of Season 19...the Bonus Wheel then debuted on the 8th week of the season (Big Money Week) in October 2001.

Something else interesting is that this was the only week to use both of these new puzzle solve cues. After this week the regular puzzle solve cue became the toss-up solve cue and they reverted back to the 1997 solve cue for regular puzzles until it was updated in 2002!
Also the toss-up music used only this week is a slightly different mix than the one used until Season 20.

Jeopardy!, meanwhile, kept chugging along as usual. Even though it was a big change for the show, "Happy Wheels" has to be my favorite out of all the themes.

I believe that was when the $2,500 became the top dollar value for the 1st round

I believe that was when the $2,500 became the top dollar value for the 1st round Nope, just looking up on the Wheel timeline, it was on the second Big Money Week/Season 17 finale week.
