Title. I know I have used obituaries to spell out the last names of contestants, but I don't think I've ever noted their deaths in the recaps. Death is a part of life, but I feel it's unsettling on these retro recaps, which are mainly supposed to celebrate a previous era of Wheel and the contestant appearances ten or twenty or thirty or even forty years ago, which might be drastically different than the people they are today. Is the point of these recaps to keep tabs on the Wheel family and their latter appearances in the news and TV, or is it mostly centered on Wheel?

I don't know if it's necessary to keep track of, but it's probably worth noting if it can be confirmed. Emphasis on if you can confirm it, since there are some contestants who have fairly common names.

Is the point of these recaps to keep tabs on the Wheel family and their latter appearances in the news and TV, or is it mostly centered on Wheel? Oddly enough, my vision of the site is both, with respect to the last line and question posed. What I’ve always valued is a place for everything honoring Wheel. Yes, the history of the show, its staff, those moments, and how it has evolved over 45 years, but also the stories of a lifetime for players, be that just recounting good times, matters unexpected, or just remembering the life of that person of the times that were and what he or she meant to people, past or present. That’s the power of game shows, to make the ordinary extraordinary, and ultimately connect us as individuals. I know this works with what I’ve implemented, but also the community’s macro direction the past five or so years. It’s unconventional but then again, my style kind of always is. Stories like TCONA, Game Show Throwdown Wheel Alums and annual meetups are why I developed the page as it is, rather uniquely, to try to appeal to all arms of this fan base, die hard or not, because there are a ton of viewers. And people are fascinating, especially so for TV reasons. Like, to paraphrase an old adage, you have to be interesting enough to get on there. To which I’ve always internally replied, I want to hear it, and that goes beyond a minute long discussion with Pat. A show is nothing without its people. So why would a site about said show be different?

pakman basically took the words right out of my mouth. If I can find a valid source, it's worth noting (even if it a bit depressing). Sometimes, I refer to Andy's website to compose my retro recaps.

If it involves a contestant who passed on in between taping and first airing, a special requiem should be noted in the first-run thread. But on the Retro Recaps and Video Vault section, I don't think it's a good idea, unless if it involves a staff member that was directly involved in the show (appears in the credits). This site is about celebrating one of the most popular, if not the most popular game shows of all time, through their memories directly tied to the show itself. In addition, they're probably more than a few contestants who were married at the time of their appearance and then filed for divorce, so it may be embarrassing to perhaps state that they were married to him/her in the Retro Recaps if that's not the case today. The exceptions of course is that rare contestant who becomes a showbiz star, who is then followed like any other celeb. You don't really see obits on TPIR's retro recaps for the same reason. Leave the personals for YouTube comments or Facebook/Twitter messages. However, feel free to post links or messages about a contestant if they appeared on another show or even occasions like a sporting event, beauty pageant, or TV/radio show. If you had to start a thread, you could do an obituaries thread on the Mr. Irrelevant section, but even following the thread on G-R.net doesn't feature too many game show contestants. Speaking of G-R, here's a similar thread about this topic, with even a brief mention of Vanna. www.golden-road.net/index.php?topic=27102.0
