You thought I'd be recapping an episode from Season 18 today? Sike! That would be Friday's recap. Today's recap is another Season 15 gem that has a very symbolic bonus puzzle, at least according to me.
Before the show, Vanna finds that Pat's still rehearsing in his dressing room.
FUN IN THE SUN
AIR DATE: 9/25/97
To get into the Friday Finals, one of these players will try to win at least $3,545 (yes, you read that right)...
John Travato: Las Vegas, NV. Married to Jeri with 3 daughters. Casino marketing executive for the premier hotel casino in his city.
Christine Scowley: Los Angeles, CA (orig. from San Francisco). Writer who has a play premiering next month.
Danny Morris: Columbia, MD. Was one of the people in the contestant search at the Harbor Court Hotel in Baltimore. Engaged to Maria. Does some modeling with a local agency and it part of a band called Crushing Day. Also works with a local politician, plays softball, and hopes to be a game show host one day.
Interesting enough, this is the second episode in a row that I recapped that has someone be in a band. Oh, and there's also a SURPRISE on the wheel.
Round 1: Before & After

All John here: a R & N on $350, 3 E's, 2 $250 T's (near LOSE A TURN), and O.

He nails SKELETON CREW CUT for $700. PERFECTION
Pre-Round 2 Scores:
John: $700
Christine: Spinning Next
Danny: Didn't hear from him.
He should've gone for at least the C's...also, this was NOT the first time this week that Pat joked about conservative playing.
Prize Added to Wheel: The Westin Resort Miami Beach worth $4,400 (marked MIAMI)
Round 2: Slogan

Christine starts this biggie with a $5,000 S pair, 2 $250 H's, 4 E's, 4 T's on $250 (that would've been a better letter to call first), but then L for loss while on $500.
Danny falls for the V trap (he was thinking VEST), so it's off to John. He says 2 $900 R's, 2 A's, a $400 B, a $550 N, 2 O's, and 3 F's on $250 (near $900).
_ A _ E / F R O _
T H E / B E S T
S T _ F F
O N / E A R T H
He solves for $3,000, but does he know what is MADE FROM THE BEST STUFF ON EARTH for another two grand? Not with Smuckers, it was Snapple. Either way, John has enough to move to the Friday Finals, unless if his opponents can overtake him.
Duds: L (Christine), V (Danny)
Pre-Round 3 Scores:
John: $3,700
Christine: Lost out on some money.
Danny: Spinning Next
Pat jokes about Smucker's slogan and decides to save that for another show. Ironically, they did use that slogan towards the end of the season (albeit categorized as a QUOTATION). Read about that here.

Bravo Card Jackpot Round: Event

_ _ _ _ _ / _ _ _ _
Danny hits LOSE A TURN and John gets 4 T's for $3,600, but BANKRUPTS one space clockwise. Christine picks up 2 H's for $1,400, but then hits the other BANKRUPT.
Danny calls a dud R on $700, so it's John the rest of the way: an $800 N, 4 E's, an L for the SURPRISE, and barely escapes BANKRUPT to call 2 P's on $900.
E _ P E _ _ T _ _ N ($9,000)
T _ / T H E
_ _ _ T H / P _ L E
John goes on an EXPEDITION TO THE SOUTH POLE to collect another $2,350 and this SURPRISE - the Wurlitzer1015 CD jukebox worth $8,916. $11,266 is his round's total.
Dud: R (Danny)
Lose a Turn: Danny
Bankrupts: 2 (Danny's opponents)
Pre-Round 4 Scores:
John: $14,966 cash & jukebox
Christine: Gooseegg Alert
Danny: Same

Round 4: Thing
_ _ _ _ / _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ _
John's opponents might have a chance to score, since an R on $300 won't cut it. Christine calls 3 S's on $900, E, but then an odd letter of F on $400 (next to $600). Danny gets 2 T's on $700, 2 A's, but then a dud L on $450.
John picks off 2 P's on that same space, O, but then I for invalid. Christine hits the same BANKRUPT that she got to lose $2,450 and we have to shift into Speedup mode...

Final Spin: $500
Danny: M
John: 2 G's
Christine: D
Danny: 2 N's

P O S T A G E
S T A M P
Danny still can't solve for his sole $2,650 payoff.
John: 2 B's (and Danny NOW realized what it is)
B _ G S / B _ N N _
P O S T A G E
S T A M P
John sweeps the maingame with BUGS BUNNY POSTAGE STAMP for another $2,900 (though it should’ve been $2,400 if you paid attention)!
Duds: R (John), F (Christine), L (Danny), I (John), D (Christine; during Speedup)
Bankrupt: Christine
Final Scores:
John: $17,866 cash & jukebox (should be $17,366)
Christine: Lovely Parting Gifts
John: Lovely Parting Gifts
A picture of said solution appeared at the bottom-right screen of the puzzleboard after John solved. As Pat said, we used stamps for presidents and flags, now we're honoring fictional rabbits.
Bankrupt Trash: $7,450

It is something DAY, but it's actually not my thought of BOXING DAY. And my friend is gonna experience this tomorrow -- MOVING DAY. He leaves the Hawaii & RAV 4 package on the table, but maybe he can try to win that again if he wins again the next day (Pat wasn't too sure if that $17K+ total was a top 3 for the week).
Closing Chat: Even though it's September, Vanna...has not done her X-Mas shopping yet (she usually does it in March)! She's had a busy summer with the new baby. Maybe she can try to search for stuff lying around in the studio.
My Rating: 7
If any of you would like to recap the other episodes from this week, that would be much appreciated (all of the episodes this week and other S15 episodes are found here). The Endless Summer episode from Season 18 should be the last recap of the week from me.
