Going back 10 years from my last recap and this one features another symbolic puzzle regarding recent events...
CANADIAN ROCKIES
AIR DATE: 10/13/97
Pat does acknowledge that this is Monday night...unless if you're living in the West Coast in which it would be Tuesday night due to Monday Night Football. Here are the contestants that opened this week...
Tracey Alexander: Timonium, MD. Junior at Towson University studying mass communication who hopes to be a news broadcaster someday. Also a part-time modeler.
Patti Smith: Columbia, SC. Married to John w/ 3 kids. Works part-time as a certified hand therapist.
Ed Gibson: Oklahoma City. Was in a contestant search at the Oklahoma City Hilton Northwest. Married to Jennie (in audience) for almost 3 yrs. w/ 2 boys. Enjoys scuba diving & is in home repair.
SURPRISE is on the wheel.
Round 1: Place
_ _ _ / _ _ _ _ _ _

Tracey's off with a $550 N, an R for the FREE SPIN, 2 T's on $250 (near LOSE A TURN), a $700 H, 2 E's, but the last consonant is NOT an L ($300), prompting her to use the FS. She then calls 3 $400 C's...
T H E / _ R C T _ C
_ C E _ N
...and pinpoints THE ARCTIC OCEAN (that would fit under On The Map today) for $2,700.
Dud: L (Tracey - used FS)
Pre-Round 2 Scores:
Tracey: $2,700
Patti: Spinning Next
Ed: Didn't get a turn yet.
Prize Added to Wheel: Jasper Park Lodge worth $5,530 (marked ALBERTA)
$10,000 Round: Slogan
_ _ / _ _ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ / _ _ _
Patti wants a T on $400, but it's not there. Ed lights up 2 $250 R's, but then S for sorry on $250.
Tracey strikes out with P on that $250 space, so back to Patti again: she puts up a $300 F, but then the normal-sized BANKRUPT. We immediately get back to her since Ed says G on $500 and Tracey hits the same BANKRUPT. Next is a $500 Y, 2 O's (the audience didn't applaud for that letter, an $800 W, 3 E's, a $400 L, but then C for CRITICAL DUD while on $300. Ed lights up the last consonants of a $600 V and a $300 D.
W E / D E L _ V E R
F O R / Y O _
He says WE DELIVER FOR YOU (they mistakenly used the correct bonus answer cue) for $1,400...but blanks out on the company. It was The Post Office (or the United States Postal Service).
Duds: T (Patti), P (Tracey), G (Ed), C (Patti)
Bankrupts: 2 (Tracey's opponents)
Pre-Round 3 Scores:
Tracey: $2,700
Patti: Not enough traction.
Ed: $1,400
About the company mentioned in this puzzle, recent news said that Trump wanted to make this company private so that he could win the upcoming 2020 election again. I personally stand against it. USPS is literally the backbone of the country's mailing system and many people across the country will be negatively affected if USPS shuts down.

...and he obviously can't solve right now. Next are 2 $700 S's, E, a $450 R (almost got ALBERTA), 2 A's, 2 N's on the same $250, 3 I's to wipe out the vowels, 3 $800 L's, a $450 W, 2 $600 M's...a $250 B, (so close to top dollar)...and a C for ALBERTA.
M E N / I N / B L A C _ ($8,500)

Tracey needs to catch up, but N on $250 (near top dollar) won't do it. Patti takes it from here: 2 $800 T's (almost got LOSE A TURN), 2 $250 R's (near $900), E, 2 $600 L's, A & 2 O's, a $500 C, 2 I's to clean out the vowels, a $250 C & 2 $800 P's.

Dud: N (Tracey)
Pre-Round 5 Scores:
Tracey: $2,700
Patti: $4,650
Ed: $12,830 cash & Alberta
Round 5: Place

This was NOT the original intended puzzle. It was a Person that consisted of 2 words and 14 letters, but that got thrown out due to an error.
Patti immediately duds out with R on $800 and Ed takes it from here this time: T & S on $250 (near top dollar), 3 $300 N's, O & 2 E's, 2 $700 L's, and a C on that $250 space.
L _ N E N
C L O S E T
I've never really heard of a LINEN CLOSET till now, but he's won another $2,250. And game over right there.
Final Scores:
Tracey: $2,700
Patti: $4,650
Ed: $15,080 cash & Alberta
Maingame Total: $22,430
Bankrupt Trash: $300

Bonus Round
It's a new week, so all 5 prizes are up for grabs:
W H E E L
Ed picks the W.
Category: Thing
RSTLNE lights up a third of this puzzle (and this would be In The Kitchen nowadays)...
S _ L _ _
_ _ R _
DKPA sounds pretty good...
S A L A D
_ _ R K
He easily gets SALAD FORK and wins another trip to Alaska (Ultima Thule Lodge) worth $29,800! His final total for the day is $44,880 cash & trips, putting him in very good shape for a spot in the Friday Finals. The wife and Aunt Judy celebrated the victory with him.
Closing Chat: Vanna draws a mustache on Pat...and he says that he looks like the villain in a school play.
(Final Notes: I believe the SURPRISE was a trip to Italy since one of the credit listings said Alitalia Airlines. Also, it did say a portion of this game was edited - this applies to at least R5.)
My Rating: 8
Tomorrow, we’re jumping forward to either S18 or S22.
