Whoever decided to stop using the backdrops after the board change should have been fired. I was discussing this with wheelfan82 last week; I remember this mockup I made in 2013 showing how it would look if they were used today. Just replace those gold poles with LED strips that light up when someone rings in on a Toss-Up or wins a round, and you've got a real set.

I remember watching the original NFL Players Week when it first aired, but my memory must be failing me, because I thought it was just the NFL players that were contestants. I didn't realize they paired them up with a contestant this early on (I know they were doing it by Season 17). I must have been confusing it with another celebrity edition.

^ That could be it. I actually have that episode in my collection from its original broadcast and used to watch it all the time when I was a kid.

Getting rid of the colored shape backdrops here on Wheel was just as bad as discontinuing the change to red for Double Jeopardy and Final Jeopardy and keeping it blue the whole game on Jeopardy later that same year in 1997. That said they could have probably used some new colored shapes after a few years. Anyways glad to see this episode finally surface as it has been one I have been looking for.
