We get to see the apparatus (or “Wheel condom” by Buzzerblog) in one shot. I’m glad they made the scoreboards wider; if they tried to space it out like Jeopardy, I believe it would have been harder.

I think the set designers did a good job of redesigning the contestant area just enough to distance the players without compromising its overall look. This looks far better than some of the changes that foreign versions of Wheel made to adhere to local restrictions.
Side note, I am anticipating some screeching about Pat and Vanna walking out to the set with interlocked arms during the intro. I am sure they are tested regularly, but that certainly won't stop viewer complaints.

There probably won't be as many complaints about that compared to, "Its Teachers', not Teacher's!!" every year.

Well i guess that answers my question about how they are going to do the walk out... I half expected them to revert back to the way they used to do it with Pat coming out first and then introducing Vanna. I gotta be honest, idk how much i like the new wheel podiums... I get why they did it the way they did, but its not very even it looks like... Might just be me though.
Can't wait to see what negative remarks they cherry-pick out of this one.
Really nothing aside from "The Wheel condoms are real. 2020 is stupid."
The Wheel of Fortune History Wiki, created in 2011, is a veritable cornucopia of the show's ups, downs, and all-arounds from its conception in 1973 to the present day, with info and pictures you won't find anywhere else.
Did You Know? - Over 240 BAV members have been winners on Wheel, taking a total of over $8,000,000 out the door. Josh Woo has the stats here.
^ And then they followed it up with another lame excuse to say "Jeopardy! is better than Wheel" by saying that Jeopardy! separating their podiums was "thoughtful", yet Wheel, which did literally the same thing, felt like a rush job. Then in another tweet, they criticize the wider podiums for making the Wheel look "dinky", with a reply from one of their followers saying to "put the show to bed already". But at least this time, their criticism was a bit more constructive instead of outright saying, "Wheel is dumb." And they're not wrong about Jeopardy! having more creative thought put into it, but that's been par for the course for over a decade now, and that's probably not going to change as long as Alex Trebek is still hosting. Wheel's still a moneymaker (barely) staying afloat, but J! is Sony's true pride.
Wheel loses no matter what they do. People will find any excuse to trash it. If they gave the players gloves like some people were hoping or suggesting, that also would have been viewed as ridiculous. Unless maybe they did it golf-style and gave players durable black or white fingerless gloves. But since the players have to clap all the time, who wants to hear clapping fabric or latex?
At least from this promo, the wheel and contestant podium setup doesn't look all that different to me. The scoreboards are wider but otherwise it's not that big a change.
^ You mean in the first shot/still? That's taken from the top of a show, so that's probably the contestant's mask or spinning tool. I know that J! contestants are required to have masks on when the cameras are not rolling and when they don't need makeup touchups, so it's probably the same case for Wheel.
Yes, I meant the first still. I realized all the cardboard is present on the wheel in that image also, so yes it's most likely a mask or spinning tool.
And then [Buzzerblog] followed it up [...] by saying that Jeopardy! separating their podiums was "thoughtful", yet Wheel, which did literally the same thing, felt like a rush job.
I'd guess the difference is that Jeopardy! split its contestant area into separate podiums whereas Wheel just elongated its contestant area.
But since the players have to clap all the time, who wants to hear clapping fabric or latex [gloves]?
Aside from golf claps being a thing, they could simply not clap. It's not like anyone's gonna be disqualified if they don't clap to the show's liking (I hope).
