A contestant who has not yet aired (and whom I will not name) has posted in a social media group about their experience taping the show with different procedures.
If anyone here has other questions about the new procedures, post them here and I will ask them to this person.
So I just taped one of the new "Covid-Proof" shows ... And it's probably going to look more awkward than it felt. I honestly had a really good time and it didn't feel like the players were super far away or anything. And one nice thing compared to Jeopardy! is that we were all allowed to be in the studio watching the other games and cheering people on.
They did the morning info/briefing/makeup in the Jeopardy! studio, actually. So we didn't get to see the Wheel green rooms at all. Once taping started we all moved over to the Wheel studio and spread out in the audience. They had tape over chairs to make sure we were all far apart. During food breaks they had tables and chairs set up in a section of the parking garage. The whole first floor of the parking garage was set up with tables to be the "offices" for some productions. The Jeopardy/Wheel section was next to The Goldbergs. And we did have to wear masks except for when we were at the wheel and eating/drinking. I'm so used to wearing them for work that I didn't really mind. They did provide masks/hand sanitizer/tissues/alcohol wipes for everyone if people didn't bring any. I just wish they would have got customized Wheel masks. That would be a memorable souvenir if they did.
The makeup was a bit of a bummer. I did Jeopardy a few years ago and they made me look so good. I wanted more of that. But we were told to do our own makeup before coming in. The makeup people just color matched us with powder and gave us powder puffs to pat ourselves with if we started to get shiny. We carried them around in a bag with a bunch of PPE they provided and patted ourselves during the commercial break, too.
Sadly no guests. But honestly, even if guests were allowed the logistics of what to do with a toddler and no family on the West Coast would have probably ended with me being solo anyway. The one thing that was a bit of a let down about being spread out was not being able to easily chat with the other contestants during down time. Because when we got to over lunch/taping breaks it was really fun getting to know everyone.
