I don't know how to date these things, but it's here and that's what matters:

Just from Round 1, it looks like the $400 space next to $125 is red, because said $400 is clearly darker than the blue $175.

Carol is back with $4,500. Aspect ratio is odd, but it's better than nothing. "[My Free Spin] is down the crack." That's a new one. Chuck then makes a remark that gets some laughs, then says "There goes my Emmy." Hmm... Anyone else want to bet those animal-shaped plant holders were ceramic? Holy crap, that was an amazing Round 2...and Round 3 wasn't too far behind. Boy that Ticket/Contestant Plug graphic looks basic. Just from Round 1, it looks like the $400 space next to $125 is red, because said $400 is clearly darker than the blue $175. It's also darker than the adjacent $300, which was also blue. This puts it post-March 15, since that episode still had the blue $400 (it became red by April 6, Scott Hostetler's first day), but before March 2, 1979 (since the 7s are still rounded at the bottom and $900 is still next to Bankrupt in Rounds 2+). By far the best indicator is Roger's "I'd like to spend a Summer in Vail, Colorado" remark post-Round 1, which suggests late Spring/early Summer '78 - which in turn considerably shrinks the Star Bonus' potential lifespan from ~11½ months to at most ~6 months. If Chuck's Emmy remark in Round 1 refers to the '78 ceremony (which was June 7 that year and the only time he was ever nominated for Wheel, which he didn't win) - and I suspect it does given the Emmys' practice of announcing nominations in advance of the ceremony - this puts it no later than said day, which in turn shrinks the Star Bonus to a potential lifespan of just over 2½ months.
