It's been a while since I've done one of these but I'd like to share with you some of my favorite and not-so-favorite moments of this past season. Caitlin Burke's one-letter solve is easily the best but what stood out to you after watching Season 28?
BEST MOMENTS 1. Charlie O Donnell's tribute at the end of Caitlin's episode 2. All three $100,000 wins 3. The three PERFECT BONUS ROUND WEEKS ("Leave Winter Behind", "Road Trip", and "Fabulous Food from New Orleans"). 4. Sandy Schenk's Winnebago win on March 8, 2011! 5. Chris Albert's BIG comeback on October 1, 2010. Despite a season-worst of eight BANKRUPTS on this episode, he scored $24,000 to win the maingame at $25K! He went on to win $45,000 in the BR by solving ACT OF HEROISM! 6. Philip Cousin, former TPIR contestant, winning $65,600 (including $40,000 from the BR by solving BODYGUARD) on March 10, 2011! 7. November 18, 2010: Sarah Feagles of the Navy makes a grand comeback by solving BARBELLS AND DUMBBELLS for $42,000 and a new season-high maingame total of $45K at the time! She then goes on to win a Mazda Tribute by easily solving OPEN-DOOR POLICY! She knew it with just the RSTLNE! 8. Three straight people easily solving their Bonus Puzzles (RSTLNE of course) on the final week of Las Vegas (March 29-March 31, 2011). 9. Katie Cantrell doing her stint as "Vanna for a Day". 10. Josh Duffy's $34,250 solve for the Song Lyrics Puzzle "DO DO THAT VOODOO THAT YOU DO SO WELL"! That was thanks to three consecutive spins of $3,500!
BAD MOMENTS 1. All 11 $100,000 losses, a new ALL-TIME WORST for one season (that includes the "AN UNKNOWN FACT" incident). 2. The five BR SHUTOUT WEEKS especially the season finale week. 3. The people botching the promo that we were in for a second-ever millionaire during "Get Out of Town" week (camera was on Julie Moore who lost the MDW in R4) on October 19, 2010. 4. During that same week (on Thursday), this was the setup for a SAME LETTER puzzle:
F I _ I N G F R A N K F U R T E R S & / F R E N C H F R I E S
Kate Mathison blew it by calling for a P. Rusty Chapley didn't do any better with the V. And after Christy Sullivan BANKRUPTED, Kate finally got it by solving "FIXING FRANKFURTERS..." 5. I always hate it when people still don't get a BR puzzle despite some good help. On November 1, 2010 during "Wheel Loves L.A.", this was the final setup for Ashley Yeager-Gregory (category was PHRASE)...
_ N _ A R D / A N D _ P _ A R D
She said ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. The correct answer was ONWARD AND UPWARD and she lost $35,000. 6. On November 11, 2010 during "Big Money Week from Las Vegas", contestants Todd Wilkinson and Jeanne Fisher made very crucial mistakes costing them five-figure amounts. Read the recap to see what happened. 7. Speed-up round debacles on November 16, 2010 and February 23, 2011 respectively (EVERYTHING IS SHIPSHAPE and AUCKLAND, NEW ZEALAND) 8. The ugly gameplay on March 23, 2011 (that has the 10th $100,000 loss of the season). 9. David Ansay saying WINDOW WASHERS for YELLOW DAFFODILS when the category was LIVING THINGS. 10. Sarah Klukas SUPPER BOWL incident on the Wednesday edition of Season Finale week.

To be fair, DAFFODILS are LIVING THINGS... I don't have much to add to this

The theme related animations for the openings, rather than the same one for all Culver City shows. Sadly, I don't think they'll continue into Season 29. But I do think hat the theme related special effects during the category reveals could, and I hope they do. The half car system during Road Trip week. I wonder if that could possibly be permanent in Season 29. I really hope it does. All scenic sets, no dips and columns set, or an updated version of it, until Wheel Was Here in December 6 - 10, 3 months into the season! I really am afraid though the reason for that was because it took a while to come up with a replacement, and in Season 29 we'll be seeing that updated version a whole lot more. Despite what I said about the best moment, another horrendous thing, besides it being a shutout, was that the season finale week was the first compilation week ever to have the dips and columns set for as many as 4 of the 5 episodes (all but Tuesday). Why couldn't they switch the Road Trip and Vacation of a Lifetime compilation week shows? Then the season finale week would have had only three updated dips and columns shows, and Give Me a Break, the fourth one, only two!!!!!! (Teen Best Friends on Wednesday was the only one to use that set that week). Also, if they had to have that many updated dips and columns weeks, why couldn't it be Leave Winter Behind instead of Desert Oasis? The former is such a generic theme name, and that set could have applied to something else, while Desert Oasis has a specific scene that makes sense for that week. One other bad thing -- Pat didn't look as good during some weeks. I at first I thought it had to do with his aging, but when I saw him get his Lifetime Achievement award at the Emmys, which were June 19, after the season finale, he looked as handsome as he used to be. Let's hope he keeps that look for Season 29. And if we're going to talk about changes as opposed to specific moments -- the best is $25,000 retired and $30,000 the new minimum. And the worst -- the Prize Puzzle no longer in Round 1 (or if that had to do with it not being allowed to be the Jackpot Round, then it shouldn't be the Mystery Round either), and that the rule that every episode must have a BEFORE & AFTER or SAME NAME is retired, which went into effect during the fifth week of Season 27, October 12, 2009, and from then until the end of the season, only broken on April 12, 2010.

Best:1. The perfect bonus rounds of course, I'd also like to add that they all happened within 3 consecutive months. 2. John's amazing solve of WOULDN'T IT BE NICE BY THE BEACH BOYS on 9/28/10. Pat was expecting him to spin, but he just says "Prize Puzzle" and solves it right away! See it here3. "Show me something small, Pat"4. On 4/14/11: Jana was the "cardboard queen" (trip + 1/2 car + MDW + WC) Worst:1. When players couldn't figure out _RISTINE and _IPPING (they called C and Y, respectively) Also a "7" was called in the BR of the latter video 2. On 2/8/11: the early BATTLE HYMN OF THE REPUBLIC missolve. See it here3. On 3/29/11, Eubert calls a B, then spins and lands on the MW, then repeats the same B right away! 4. Too many Thing(s)/Phrase in the BR, especially towards the end of the season. Hope we see more variety this coming season. Awkward/Strange/Misc.:9/24/10: The Wild Card that just disappeared due to an edit: www.youtube.com/watch?v=jiiYTP-0OXw10/16/10: $500 missing? see the cached discussion on the old boards 3/23/11: similar to above, but with $250 11/9/10: Pat initially ruled a correct answer incorrect during 1st toss-up MILLIONS & BILLIONS: www.youtube.com/watch?v=WvEUEBzPi6Q9/21/10: Sarah's belt came off after R1; this was also the QUALITY TIME $100,000 loss. www.youtube.com/watch?v=BJLs6PM7zt0 www.youtube.com/watch?v=_oY_dgwAbqQ9/23/10: Wrong BR envelope chosen: www.youtube.com/watch?v=byjgfQJuzJQ5/2/11: After R1, fireworks were displayed but it wasn't a jackpot solve.

Well, I didn't really expect that they would show something like that; I liked that moment due to "happened out of nowhere" factor. (it's unfortunate that it was a 100K loss though)
I guess that could also go under awkward...

Best Moments: - Chris's comback - The total clean sweep from April which included the MDW and Wild Card going to the Bonus Round - Sandy's Winnebago win - The girl from one of the Vegas shows who went ape after solving "SHOULDER PADS" and winning a BMW, snatching the envelope out of Pat's hand as soon as he showed it to her - Caitlin's solve - The $100,000 wins - The Wii/entertainment center prize package as the featured prize (10/22 & 10/28) - The perfect Bonus Round weeks - Katie taking Vanna's place - Josh's lucky spins and huge win in New Orleans - The New Orleans shows - Pat rocking out with the Zydeco band - Pat & Vanna pigging out on Beignets (sp?) - Philip - Pat ruling a correct Toss Up solve incorrect - The wrong bonus envelope being taken out - Pat revealing the wrong envelope during a MDBR - Two consecutive MDBRs (9/29 & 9/30) - John from golden-road.net - Tillman the skateboarding dog - There were more shows than other recent seasons where it wasn't 1 man vs. 2 women - More episodes with regular gameplay in R4 - Pat making his first tweet on-air - "I'll buy a vowel...a "T"...oops." (Well, not exactly "best" moment, but I thought it was so funny) - The return of "The '60s" and "Best Seller" categories - The PP trips to Ireland and Uruguay (were those the only non-NA PP trips this season?) - The "recycling old puzzles" episode - April Fools - The return of $3,000 trivia bonuses - The difficult and pretty trappable "KAYAKING" was solved - The super-easy BR puzzle of "NIGHTFALL" with the contestant calling "GHFA" without hesitation - The also super-easy BR "NO QUESTION ABOUT IT," and the contestant's call of "Q"
Not-so-Great Moments: - The shutout weeks - Record $100K losses - Some bad gameplay - WAY too many Bankrupts - Too much noticeable editing, including sudden disappearances of cash and Wild Cards, and all those weird overhead spin edits - The MDW being gone during the first New Orleans show without explanation - The MDW being misplaced, then fixed, even though one player landed on one of its Bankrupts when it was misplaced - The "Julie" promo incident - The holiday sweepstakes promo spoiling the "OPEN-DOOR POLICY" solve - Spoiling the MDW too much, and even spoiling a MDBR one time with Pat holding the envelope - The week where 4 days the MDW was picked up, but never made it past the same round - Less variety on Prize Puzzle trips - "TOTALLY AWESOME WATER PARK"... - Too many "half-phrases" and overly-descriptive puzzles made to increase length - Audience was too subdued during many episodes - Unbalancing "Get Out of Town" and "Halloween Week" - Charlie getting dubbed over - The weird scheduling of summer reruns - The nearly-unwinnable rules of the 1/2 Car Wedge - The loaded $16,400 trip during Tennis Week - The "bonus question" chime was never used for the "What's That Song?" puzzles - The "Vanna For a Day" contest was actually "Vanna For Two Rounds" - Nobody could figure out "AUCKLAND NEW ZEALAND" and Pat incorrectly stating it's the capital - Too many contestants stopping themselves from solving a Speed-Up puzzle after they hear the buzzer, especially the team from Teen Best Friends week that threw away thousands in cash (Pat spun $6K) and potential victory after failing to finish solving "AMATEUR ASTRONOMER." Pat's "you blew it" expression was priceless

She was on the same episode as Todd and Jeanne. And you got the spelling of beignets right.

- The "Julie" promo incident Was this the ad hinting at a MDBR? I agree that it was disappointing that we lost Charlie, but Jim is great too. His hiring was a good moment here. Many of AN007's moments I agree with.

I love all of the best moments aforementioned above in the first few columns. And I most certainly agree with the worst moments in the 28th Season most notably in the weeks when nothing was won in the Bonus Round. The Season Finale week was more disappointing. One or two weeks before then, I got so mad when this one family had most of the letters filled in the Bonus puzzle and they had the chance to solve when the answer was right in front of them. They just didn't solve it!

Chances are we may never see another Million Dollar Win in the Bonus Round this season; in which case there is a great chance the Million Dollar Wedge will be retired by the time this season is over.
