Did they cut a null cycle in R1? Even with all those duds, none of NRSTL were called, and he says "There we go" when Sonia uncovers the D. And here I thought "null" cuts didn't become a thing until the electronic board

And here I thought "null" cuts didn't become a thing until the electronic board I'd wager there were two or three null cycles cut out. Who the heck approved that puzzle? I knew it was Iowa as soon as the I came up, but I have never heard of that town. And I'm someone who is good at geography and can name a lot of obscure towns in many states.

Along with PEACH FUZZ in another episode around this time, some of these R1's must have been unused bonus puzzles. That and DUBUQUE IOWA were both eventually used there in the 21st century. The latter is also a puzzle in the Nintendo DS game, and I remember it was the first bonus puzzle that I failed to solve.

Ugh. What a cheap Bonus Round prize. You tell me. That should’ve been a R4 prize instead.
