As I depart for San Diego on Tuesday (for a few days), it would be rather appropriate to recap the rest of the episodes taped from the San Diego Convention Center that are not up yet. Here's the first ever edition of this remote (aka the one where Vanna's heavily pregnant with her second child).
EPISODE #2706: SAN DIEGO
Airdate: 5/12/97
Yes Pat, you're right. I love how you can just come down to SD anytime we want (if you live in the LA area)...because it's a very convenient 2-hour drive to get to America's Finest City.
Our first players at this locale:
Julie Dougherty: Oceanside. Stationed at 12th Marine Corps District at MCRD San Diego (she's been in the Marine Corps for 10 years and is a reservist on extended active duty). She also just got signed by a local agent in the acting business.
John Liske: Palm Beach Gardens, FL. Runs a restaurant in Jupiter (not the planet, sorry) who's been married for a year.
Consuela Miley: Modesto, CA (orig. from San Jose - she still works there). Secretary for the department of linguistics and language development at San Jose State who has 2 kids and loves estate sales.
It would be silly if Consuela was PUTTING GREEN BEANS, but she's solves anyway.
DUDS: H (John), L (Consuela), M (Julie), C (John)
BANKRUPT: Julie
PRIZE ADDED TO WHEEL: a $2,000 Cabela's gift certificate (marked OUTERWEAR)
I'm afraid Julie's gonna say HERB ALBERT & THE TIJUANA BRASS...and she does. John fixes the mistake with HERB ALPERT & THE TIJUANA BRASS (he said "That's (insert puzzle solution)" since he was correcting the mistake).
DUDS: M (John), D (Consuela)
DQ: Julie's one-letter missolve
JACKPOT ROUND
The buzzer sounded on the S repeat.
WHAT AN AMAZING COMEBACK - Consuela's gotten the lead back and claims the outerwear.
DUDS: R (Julie), S (Consuela), L (John)
BANKRUPTS: 2 (non-Julies)
DQ: Julie's S repeat
LEFT BEHIND IN POT: $14,450
It took a while for the puzzles to get solved, so we're only taking one spin for this round. Each consonant from here on out is worth...$5,000 apiece! Everyone's still in this!
Julie: 2 S's ($10,000) (calls T afterward)
John: T (Gotcha!)
Consuela: N
Julie: G
John: 2 R's ($10,000)
John says ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT.
Consuela: L
Julie: M
John: H
Consuela: D
Julie: F ($15,000)
John: K
Consuela: C
Julie: B
John: W ($15,000)
Consuela: Y ($5,000)
Consuela beats the buzzer with FREEWAY OVERPASS.
DUDS: T (John), N (Consuela), G (Julie), L (Consuela), M (Julie), H (John), D (Consuela), K (John), C (Consuela), B (Julie)
DQ: John’s missolve
FINAL SCORES
WINNINGS SO FAR: $15,350
BANKRUPT TRASH: $1,500
BONUS ROUND:
These are the prizes that can be won here...
1997 Chevrolet Corvette ($42,109)
Hunter 240 Sailboat ($21K+)
1997 Winnebago Spirit ($46K+)
African Safari ($29,000)
The Classic $25,000
Consuela picks the second E.
RSTLNE gives a third:
PCMO adds just one more...
FRESH CUT and FROST CUT are no-nos. That was a FRISKY CAT...
...and she's not going on the African Safari. Consuela still gets $11,350 for her efforts and she does make it to the Friday Finals.
It's going to be a great couple of weeks down in SD! Pat mentions that he spent 3 years in the army (1 1/2 in Vietnam).
The Marine San Diego band plays their version of "Changing Keys" in the end credits.
