I was reading about WOF on TVTropes (tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/WheelOfFortune), and it mentioned this moment:

◦On March 29, 2010, a contestant managed to break the Wheel by picking up the Free Play wedge (it was edited out of the broadcast).

Anyone know more details? How did it break the wheel? How long was the stop-down?

The only reason we know it happened was because the contestant spoke about it in interviews.

Here's the interview. The part about the stopdown is on page two, but she doesn't explain much detail about it.

The edit wasn't that noticeable, but they really should have kept in her picking it up for laughs. If they leave in people destroying the gift tag, why not this? I hope we get to see it in some sort of blooper reel during the next clip show.

I think for the 30th anniversary they should do a video montage of all the bloopers and things we don't see. I think that also back in the 90s the flipper broke during a spin and you could see it snap.
