Good morning! My name is Jared, and I am brand new to the forum. I have been a Wheel fan since I was a teen (I am 26 now.) Back in May, after my audition, I found out that I would be a contestant on Wheel here in the US. I got the news last friday that I would be filming next Thursday, August 18th!!!! Just wanted to post a link to my blog to hopefully help out anyone who has questions about the audition process. Please feel free to ask me any questions (or send some additional luck my way!!!) Thanks! Jared www.jaredwheeloffortune.blogspot.com/

Welcome, Jared. Congratulations on becoming a contestant! That's great news! ;D Good luck on the show. Feel free to take a look at our strategies thread in the "Buying Your Time" board (I'd especially prefer that you look at my "Do's and Dont's of the Bonus Round" post in that thread so my remote suffers less damage. ) If you have any questions or want opinions regarding other strategies, feel free to ask. Don't forget to tell us about anything exciting regarding the new season as soon as you get back. We can't wait! ;D

Hey, congrats, be sure to tell how things went, what changes there are, etc. Welcome to the boards, we're glad to have you here! Be sure to PM cu2010, or Prizes your info first, to remove all spoilers. Good luck!
If you notice, your star has been changed to that of people who have been on the show. Hope you like it!
Please, for everyone's sake, go BGHO on the bonus round if you get there (if you joined here, should be no problem!), you'll thank me later.

Jared, when is your show airing, and what's the name of your theme week?

Why would he know that right off?
In addition, all spoilers need to be cleared by either me or Jon first. The show might read these boards...we don't need to get on their bad side because we leaked information that should be out there. Patience...you'll find out soon enough.
Welcome aboard, Jared, and best of luck! Be sure to tell us all about your experience when your show airs!

Why would he know that right off? I figured the info on the theme and airdate would come with the tape date. And also please, without giving spoilers, take note of any Season 29 changes that you might notice. For instance, how the 1/2 CAR system is (and if it's different from the week that's rerunning this week, or up til Thursday), as well as other changes, and if there are things that could change any season, such as the category strips, the musics for the Tossups, Speedup, and BR, as well as opening and closing and maybe puzzle cue music, if Rounds 1 - 3 are the same (Jackpot, ordinary, and Mystery), and if the Prize Puzzle is still in Rounds 2 and 3 only.

Thanks guys for all the tips and encouragement! I do know a range of when my show date will air. The possible dates are spread out a little bit; I will not know a firm date until right before I film my show. In terms of "spoilers," I will have to wait until after my show records and I sign documents to know what I will be allowed to talk about, what can't be said etc. For me personally, I have told my family and friends that I will NOT be discussing any cash/prizes won until after my air date. I'm not sure if that is a stipulation that Wheel puts out or not, I guess I'm just evil and like to keep everyone on the edge of their seats! The excitement is continuing to build, and I have been practicing my butt off. A short 8 days away and I will be sitting in studio! Any and all feedback is much appreciated. Thanks!

Oh, absolutely. We don't want you to get in trouble with the show...obviously you won't be allowed to spoil any results. We mostly just want to know about set/gameplay changes from last season, music, whatnot, that's all...just a quick (admin-approved) report of some basic stuff. When you show airs, you can tell us the full experience.
I imagine the excitement (and, to some extent, the nerves) must be kicking in full swing right now. Just go in there, be yourself, do your best, and have fun- that's all that matters.

Jared, I have one last piece of advice before you fly out to tape your show this week. Know the wheel. The reason why people get Bankrupt and Lose a Turn so much to the point people are convinced the wheel is rigged is because everybody spins with a certain pattern which eventually reaches penalty areas, and most of those people don't consider how to control their spins. Here is the basic configuration, thanks to wheelgenius and SuperKingT: When you get to do those practice spins before taping, take note of how strong your spin is by comparing where it started to where it landed. When you start landing closer to Bankrupt or Lose a Turn, spin lighter than usual, especially if the contestant before you just spun either to avoid going back around. Though you must keep in mind that you can't aim for particular wedges, so it can't look obvious on camera or they will ask you to spin again. If you have the Million Dollar Wedge or the second 1/2 Car tag, control your spins so that they stay in what I like to call the "safe area," which is, going clockwise, from the top dollar value to the pink $900 wedge/Wild Card. This probably will require spinning harder or lighter than usual. If your spins are too weak to stay in that area consistently, then try to alternate between that area, the Free Play wedge (I say that wedge in particular because landing on either the purple $600 or the blue $300 could be cutting it close) and around the area between the purple $350 and the green $700/one of the 1/2 Car tags. Have a safe trip.

Good luck!
Here's a random question: does Sony pay for travel expenses, or do you do that on your own?

Sadly, you do it on your own... whatever keeps the budget maintained.
