S21, EPISODE #4056: WHEEL AROUND THE WORLD
Airdate: 4/12/04
Go!
Matthew says DON'T RUSH IN.
Even though Jun blurted out the answer, it's Alyssa that rings in - please DON'T RUSH ME on writing those recaps.
Two men to start this week:
Alyssa Botalato: Bayside, NY. Plans to be a 3rd grade teacher (she just finished her Master's who's married 4 years with a daughter (Isabelle). She dreamed of being on Broadway and got to be part of the Moulin Rouge when she went to Paris a couple years ago.
Matthew Bazer: Danville, CA. Runs a small restaurant chain (Asian food) in the Bay Area who's married to Trish for 9 years with 3 kids.
Jun Quibuyen Jr.: Anaheim, CA. Mail processor for the USPS who's married to Grace with a son (Gerard) and is also a Laker's fan.
Go!
Alyssa brought in AN EXACT REPLICA to go 2-for-2.
GIFT TAG: RICARDO
No reaction to the $2,500 spin.
Alyssa remembers the CBS sitcom TWO AND A HALF MEN.
DUDS: R (Matthew), V (Jun)
BANKRUPT: Alyssa
PRIZE ADDED TO WHEEL: Collette Vacation to Cannes, Australia + Qantas airfare (marked WHEEL AROUND THE WORLD/WATW all week), $5,400
JACKPOT ROUND
THIS WEEK'S SPONSOR: Meineke
You bet MY PATIENCE IS WEARING THIN SOCKS after those BANKRUPTs - Matthew's won the house minimum.
BANKRUPTS: 2 (non-Juns)
DQ: Jun's H repeat
LEFT BEHIND IN POT: $16,100
MYSTERY ROUND
BEHIND THE WEDGE: a $10,000 bloomingdale's GC
Pat mentions that clips from an international version of this show will be seen in the end all this week.
Jun seemed to take that BANKRUPT rater well.
Matthew solves A FLIGHTLESS BIRD OR A GREEN SWEET FRUIT. His guess of Kiwi for the bonus...is right on the money.
BANKRUPTS: 2 (others)
Go!
By reciting REMEMBER THE ALAMO, Matthew's jumped into the lead.
DING DING! DING DING!
FINAL SPIN: $6,000!
This should make up for lost time.
Matthew: T ($6,000)
Jun: R
Alyssa: 2 S's ($12,000)
Matthew: H ($12,000)
Jun: D ($6,000)
Alyssa: N ($18,000)
Matthew: L ($18,000)
Jun: 2 B's ($18,000)
Alyssa: V ($24,000) (No More Consonants!)
Alyssa solves ELVES AND HOBBITS for the big win! She didn't even know how much she won until after the fact.
DUD: R (Jun)
FINAL SCORES
You'd think with all of those BANKRUPTs, that Free Spin would've been used here...
WINNINGS SO FAR: $38,200
BANKRUPT TRASH: $38,550 (SEASON-WORST)
BONUS ROUND
SonyCard sponsors this segment for the week.
VEHICLES: MINI Cooper, Volkswagen Touraeg
ALYSSA’S SUPPORTERS: Chris the hubby
SPACE SPUN: A
RSTLNE gives the last letter:
Wipe is a globe.
Alyssa chooses CDPA...and this is pretty much a shot in the dark.
MOVIE, HOUSE and BOUNCE are all obviously wrong (the first one does fit the blanks, but not the category); she can't get VOGUE (a magazine) for the MINI Cooper.
ALYSSA'S FINAL TOTAL: $29,700 (all cash)
We see a glimpse of Austraila's version of this show in the end (Toss-Ups over there are called Flip-Ups). For the next episode, we go to Malaysia.
OVERALL THOUGHTS: Thank goodness for that big Final Spin because this show was pretty dismal no thanks to those BANKRUPTS. And fittingly, we end with a letter wipeout in the Bonus Round. It's a close one, but this is a 4/10 despite Alyssa's near $30K total.
