S16, EPISODE #2954: $HOPPING $PREE
Airdate: 10/15/98
Thursday’s $hopper$:
Rhonda Barnes: San Francisco, CA. Auto mechanic student who's married (not murdered LOL) for 1.5 years with a 15-year-old duaghter.
Andi Cabazzella: Palos Verdes Estates, CA. Personal gift shopper (in unique stuff) who's happily married (she and hubby Kennedy enjoy backpacking in the summer and skiing in the winter).
Tony Esposito: Gahanna, OH. Major oil company worker who's married to Chrissy (she coached him for this show) with a 7-month-old son (Nicholas).
Andi solves AN ACT OF CONGRESS.
DING DING DING DING DING DING DING DING DING!
And...we have that sound again. Time for her to solve this $3,000 Puzzler...
This was also the first Toss-Up on a first run episode I recapped last week and Andi knows it's CAPITOL HILL. Yes, she's quite the screamer...
DUD: K (Rhonda)
1ST PRIZE ADDED TO WHEEL: 7d river-rafting adventure in Riggins, ID from Northwest Voyagers (marked RAFTING), $4,040
Tony almost went for the solve after the O buy.
Apparently, Tony thinks there's an apostrophe in the first word as he says DON'T SAY THE FIRST THING THAT POPS INTO YOUR HEAD.
JUST SAY THE FIRST THING THAT POPS INTO YOUR HEAD, Rhonda...you did it for the house minimum.
DUD: M (Andi)
BANKRUPTS: 3 (everyone)
DQ: Tony's blown solve
From $13K+ to $1,000 to$250 $500...sounds about right.
2ND PRIZE ADDED TO WHEEL: a year of Maid SERVICE from Libman ($5,400)
JACKPOT ROUND
Rhonda pronunciation for the last word of SCIENTISTS PIERRE & MARIE CURIE is questionable (she said it with an O sound)...but it's deemed acceptable.
BANKRUPT: Tony
LEFT BEHIND IN POT: $11,450
DING DING! DING DING!
FINAL SPIN: $300
Tony: 2 N's ($600+)
Rhonda: R
Andi: 2 D's ($600)
Tony: F
Rhonda: G
Andi: M
Tony: E
Rhonda: 3 S's ($900)
Rhonda can't get that last word.
Andi: B ($900)
Andi solves SALTED NUTS AND BOLTS to deny the sole male's comeback.
DUDS (ALL AFTER BELL): R (Rhonda), F (Tony), G (Rhonda), M (Andi)
BANKRUPTS: 2 (ladies)
DQ: Rhonda's incomplete solve
FINAL SCORES
Yikes! It REALLY wasn't Tony's night here...
WINNINGS SO FAR: $8,000
BANKRUPT TRASH: $24,590 (all by...you guessed it, Tony)
BONUS ROUND
LETTER PICKED: W
RSTLNE gives Andi the ending:
KCMA gives the middle part...
WICKET, PICKET and POCKET are all wrong (even though they fit). That was a BUCKET and it's actually the trip to Paris that was lost here.
ANDI'S FINAL TOTAL: $6,600 (all cash)
Vanna's cats (Rhett and Ashley) are quite elderly (17 years old, one was in the hospital for some dental work). I'll assume Pat's not a very good pet owner.
Full credit roll in the end. Also, the wheeloffortune.com logo is cut out from the copy I'm viewing.
OVERALL THOUGHTS: Aargh! Tony had the potential to make this one of the season's best episodes, but it turned into one of the season's worst. This is a 2/10 with the only good part being R1.
